Fairfield Courtyard House - Natural light, ventilation, and garden views are integrated through the incorporation of two courtyards. The first, a courtyard to the north which adjoins the kitchen, living, and dining areas, fostering an indoor-outdoor connection. Meanwhile, the second courtyard serves as a seasonal backdrop, visually accessible from the kitchen, main bedroom, ensuite, walk-in robe, and hallway.

Fairfield Courtyard House; The outdoor entertaining area adjoins the kitchen, and fosters a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The flooring is burnished concrete with a Palladiana mosaic inlay, bridging the space between two gardens. The overall structure is created using several concrete finishes, including off-form, bush hammering and burnished. The coffered ceiling acts as one big skylight allowing natural light to filter through while providing shelter from the elements.

Horizon House: Set on a steep site in Pascoe Vale, Horizon House reimagines the typical suburban home to create a floor plan that sits in stark contrast to its sprawling context.
Approximately 40% smaller than the typical Victorian, suburban home. The architecture presents as a dark, highly refined, rectilinear box; diverging from the traditional gable-roofed structures prevalent in the area.
This intentional departure was a consequence of the floor plan (form following function) creating a distinctive architectural statement that would challenge the surrounding buildings and provides an obvious alternative to suburban living.

The entrance at our Torquay House is flanked by 5 meter high rammed earth walls. From the street the house appears solid and monolithic; beyond the facade the home is open, expansive and centred around a large north facing courtyard.

We’re excited to share a sneak peek into the brickwork underway at our Wheelers Hill House. Our bricks are custom-made with a unique colour and blend, crafted by Architectural Handmade Bricks and Pavers. These bricks measure 400mm x 40mm and will be laid in a random pattern, incorporating brick banding and hit-and-miss detailing. To achieve a seamless finish, all mortar joints are flush finish with the bricks. Due for completion later this year.

Fairfield Courtyard House was created as an inner-city sanctuary for a retiring couple. Natural light, ventilation, and garden views are integrated through the incorporation of two courtyards.
The first, a courtyard to the north which adjoins the kitchen, living, and dining areas, fostering an indoor-outdoor connection. Meanwhile, the second courtyard serves as a seasonal backdrop, visually accessible from the main bedroom, ensuite, walk-in robe, and hallway.
The large courtyard to the north is shielded by a substantial rear wall, offering a sense of seclusion and tranquillity. Flanked on the other side by an outdoor pavilion which is centrally positioned within the home. This further enhances the privacy while allowing access for family and friends from both sides.

Richmond Terrace House: A modern homage to the classic Victorian terrace. The design mirrors the rhythm and proportions of its predecessors. While the monolithic brickwork and steel detailing evoke the timeless charm of a traditional terrace.
Fairfield Courtyard House is a contemporary modification to a significant heritage home. Created for a retiring couple, this home is all about comfort, relaxation, and making memories with loved ones. Designed as an inner-city sanctuary, the plan seeks to introduce natural light, ventilation, and connection to garden, from every room. Resulting in a home that feels welcoming, calm, and very peaceful.

Through the use of simply detailed and reusable materials combined with subtle planting, Pond[er] is a project that blurs the lines between realms. Is it architecture, sculpture or landscape? Is it urban, waterpark or waterfront? Is it a pool, a pond or a piece of furniture? We debated these questions long and hard, and in the end failed to reach consensus. We felt perhaps that this is the true strength of the project, that it eschews easy categorisation and can be many things at once.” 2022 VICTORIAN ARCHITECTURE AWARDS CITATION

“Year after year, the NGV’s annual architectural competition sees our garden transformed by an ephemeral work of architecture and design. The 2021 commission, pond[er], offers a moment for quiet contemplation and conversation as we consider the natural world and the essential nourishment and resources it provides. Through an elegant interplay of architectural and landscape elements, this work draws our attention to the challenges facing Australia’s many catchments and river systems, whilst also ensuring that the design itself has minimal environmental impact by considering the future lifecycle of the materials used.” — Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV
MALVERN GARDEN HOUSE "A 'modernist relic' of concrete and glass forms the heart of this renovated 1930s heritage home, where sanctuary means lush gardens and open, airy spaces secreted away in a busy Melbourne suburb." Houses Magazine
BRUNSWICK WEST HOUSE
For the client, creating a space that would accommodate their diverse collection of artwork and literature was an essential part of their brief – a family favourite being the much-loved print of Kandinsky’s Upward (Emperor). This offered an opportunity for us to draw upon some of the artwork’s beautiful geometric and tonal elements, which in turn formed a reference for the interior palette within the new pavilion space

Sited on a highly exposed site, bound by two streets and a lane. Armadale House balances the project's public nature with the need for privacy. A long side fence is integrated into the architecture to create a private courtyard garden for the occupants. Hit and miss brickwork, and a green roof provide delightful glimpses to passersby of the garden behind.
