Regarded as Australia’s greatest living painter, Dr John Olsen is best known for his lively paintings, in particular his work depicting central Australia and Lake Eyre. He is a master at water colours and etchings of all things great and small.

We were saddened to hear of the death of John Olsen today. On behalf of The Art Series Hotel Group, we want to express our sincerest condolences to John Olsen’s family and friends; our thoughts are with them.
John Olsen is one of the greatest artists of his time and a truly inspiring man. His art redefined the Australian landscape and you can’t help but be moved by his unique interpretation of the natural beauty of this country.
The Olsen is inspired by and devoted to his awe-inspiring body of work. The hotel houses 492 of John Olsen’s artworks and the mural that hangs in the foyer, The Yellow Sun and The Yarra, was commissioned for the space.
The Art Series Hotel Group enjoyed a close working relationship with John Olsen (and we will carry on this relationship with the Olsen Family Trust). The Olsen will continue to celebrate John Olsen’s life and work as it has been doing since the doors opened in 2010, the hotel remaining a testament to his great achievements.
