About Marian Petrescu:
Marian is a Grammy Award winning pianist who is most known for his amazing ability to play jazz piano with the speed and technique, plus the metronome like time, of the late, great, jazz pianist, Oscar Petersen. If you haven’t heard of Marian before, you are not alone. This unassuming giant of jazz currently lives in Finland, and he is so humble, that he doesn’t even have a bio or photo on his computer to send on email. The icing on the cake is to watch him play at lightning speed, absolutely effortlessly. While in the middle of a fast tempo improvised solo, you can catch him checking the time on his watch, looking around the room, and making eye contact with patrons in the audience as he winks and smiles at them without a single hesitation or missed note in his playing. He is astonishingly extraordinary and beyond belief.

Bird’s Basement
Since opening in March 2016, Bird’s Basement has been recognised as Melbourne’s premier music venue. Many would say, the best in Australia. Our goal is to present an intimate listening experience, with a roster of first-class international and Australian talent. We are known as a jazz club, but we also book artists who perform R&B, soul, rock, pop, blues and more : great music is great music!
Most music venues make the best of an available space, but Bird’s Basement was an idea that Melbourne property developer Albert Dadon (also known as jazz guitarist Albare) had been nursing for some years. When the elements were in place, he had the venue designed specifically as a music venue. And in the construction and outfitting of the venue, no expense was spared. The goal was to ensure that the musicians could hear themselves perfectly onstage, with the audience also enjoying a flawless sound.
In addition, the layout meant that even the seats furthest from the stage were no more than 15 metres from the front of the stage. Patrons can always expect an intimate listening experience.
