DULLARD STEERS THE 1ST XI TO THE BIG DANCE!

In one of the better Sunday’s in recent YCC history, the 1st XI have booked their place in next weekend’s grand final showdown, successfully chasing down 220 yesterday.

Winning the toss and bowling first, Mulgrave batted their 80 overs making a respectable 220. Prashan delivered yet another 5 wicket haul sending down 31 overs to return 6-93 but the job was far from done with it all to do for the batters.

With the game evenly poised at tea, the Yarras setting the foundation at 3-77, the entrance of Jack Dullard changed the game. in a 135 run 4th wicket partnership, Dullard took MWH to the sword in a display reminiscent of some of the YCC greats. As Dullard surged his way to a run a ball 90, his efforts helped the Yarras chase down 220 only 4 down to send them to the big dance next weekend.

Whilst our other semi finalists’ in the U12’s, U16’s and 2XI unfortunately bowed out over the weekend, we’re incredibly proud of their seasons and having 4 of our 5 sides make finals is a testament to the club.

Let’s all get behind the 1’s next week and we hope to see as many supporters as Morton Park next weekend in what is a massive weekend for the club.

Go Yarras.

MICHAEL GLEDDEN TONS UP! 💯 Congratulations to U16 young gun Michael Gledden who made his maiden 100 for the Yarras in last nights dominating win for the 16’s. Coming off just 105 balls and including 13 fours, Mich played one of the finer junior knocks in recent years to register his maiden ton. Enjoy the scenes below as Michael was on 96 with just 1 ball left in the innings before guiding one down to fine leg to reach the triple figures. The commentary by Bear is as good as ever! Go Yarras

SWAPNIL MAKES PREMIER CRICKET 1ST XI DEBUT! A big congratulations to Swapnil Challa who made his 1st XI debut for Camberwell over the weekend. Swapnil and his family including father Subhash have been a big part of the Yarraleen family over the last decade. We’re thrilled and extremely proud to see Swappy make the jump to premier 1’s cricket and join Vida as the second Yarra to represent Camberwell’s 1st XI in the last two years. See Swappy raise the bat for a classy 50, we hope there’s many more great innings to come. Go Yarras

PANA GETS HIS MAIDEN 100! Enjoy the scenes as Pana brings up his maiden 100 for the Yarras off just 103 rocks as the 1’s make 7-209 in their one day clash against Vermont South. Go Yarras

Born for the baggy maroon. Check out this clip of a young(er) Xav back in 2015 when asked if he one day wanted to take the field for the 1st XI. This is what it’s all about.

2019/20 YARRALEEN CC U18 AWARDS
2019/20 YARRALEEN CC U18 AWARDS Under 18s U18s this year was a tough year with us getting close in so many games but not quite getting over the line. For most part I thought we were very competitive and the boys did a pretty good job to stay in games. Tibbzy was very impressive in his first year as captain and despite the results, it was a very enjoyable year. I would like to thank all the players and parents for all their support through the year, none of this is possible without you all. In terms of the awards, we’ve had number of guys who showed significant improvement including Toby and Daniel Spiz. But for me the most impressive was one of the newcomers to the club, Jordan. He is a great kid and a wonderful team mate and we are really lucky to have him at Yarras! So well done Jodie, keep it up mate. The bowling award also goes to one of the new faces, with Addison Forbes finishing the year with 10 wickets at 12.60. Swappy was possibly the most dangerous with the ball and Gianni was very good when he got things right, specially with the new ball. But overall Addison was the most consistent. He is an interesting character but we really appreciate him playing with us this year and best of luck to you Addison in the upcoming years. With the bat it is no surprise with Sam winning yet another batting award. He’s absolutely dominated junior cricket for years now and again this year looked like best bat in the comp when he got going. He finished with 126 runs at 31.5 but more importantly I felt towards the end of the year, he really started to bat with clear plans in both juniors and seniors. He’s got one of the best cricket brains and I feel he is really close to having a massive break out year in senior cricket. The B&F goes to none other than Swappy Challa who again showed everyone how good he is. He finished with a batting average of over 88 including another hundred for Yarras. And his offies this year was a class above the rest. I think we all know h

2019/20 Yarraleen CC U12 Awards
2019/20 YARRALEEN CC U12 AWARDS Under 12s It was a great privilege to coach the under 12s this past season. It is incredibly rewarding to coach a group of kids that want to be coached and to see the improvement they have made individually and collectively. We moved up to A Grade cricket and although we finished towards the bottom of the table, a number of really close results showed that we belonged at that level. I think what is really notable amongst our group of kids is that they genuinely enjoy one another’s success and have great team spirit, this will stand them in good stead in the future. Our most improved players for the season are Nicholas Turner and Harley Clarke. Nick’s leg spin improved out of sight and spun webs around baffled opposition. Nick also played some really handy innings through the season. Harley has a Jasprit Bumrah type set up with his bowling run up and through the course of the year became a dangerous wicket-taking machine. The winner of the batting average is the mighty Ranveer Rathi. RV is a powerful, big hitter but equally committed this season to improve his defense and shot selection. This paid great dividends and this quiet but determined kid thoroughly deserves the batting award, finishing with well over 100 runs for the season at a very nice average of a tick over 45. Bowling was really tight. Xavier Cromie had an outstanding year with an average of 4.5 and economy of .70. Joel Boyle’s bowling also improved enormously but the winner of the bowling average is Michael Gledden who took 7-30 at an average of 4.29 and economy of 1.58. I am really pleased to announce that Michael also takes out the under 12A best and fairest for 2019/20. Alongside this bowling achievement his batting was a feature with an average of over 30. Michael is a fierce competitor and an absolute sports nut who just is going from strength to strength in his cricket. Well done Michael. Alongside these achievements we had Jake Becchetti and Charlott

2019/20 Yarraleen CC Super 7 Awards
2019/20 YARRALEEN CC SUPER 7 AWARDS Super 7s Taking the reins from some of Yarra’s elite, I was given control of Yarraleen’s premium team in only my first season of coaching. Consisting of names from some of the greats like Cromie, Dullard and Amad I knew it was going to be a great year and it did not disappoint. These 13 awesome boys and girls took the Super 7s competition by storm. Having fun, having a go, and making friends. The Yarra’s way. Having never played cricket before the brother duo Hunter and Mitchell joined the squad and were first at training every week. By the end of the season both were handy bowlers taking regular wickets. Our four young ladies (Jessica, Sophia, Maya & Sofia) showed great determination to be better than the boys often leading the way with quick calls and running between the wickets. With Jess always there to keep me in check and lend a few words of advice. Her brother Ben while the youngest and smallest on the side had by far the most courage of an opening batsmen I have seen. Ben stared down many fast bowlers and took several balls in the helmet and body but never gave an inch to the bowler. The standout all-rounders for the season where Will T and Noah. Both looked at home hitting fours and taking out the stumps from either behind or in front of the stumps. I am also excited to see the left right combination power hitters of William B, and Angus next season peppering the boundary over cow-corner. The future of ‘Dullard cricket’ was held in good stead with Finn developing solid skills which included all the PPE in the right places this year. Core skills in fielding, batting, and bowling improved out of sight over the season and owe this in part to all the parents and grandparents who get their kids to training and games on time every week. A big thank you to all the parents who helped during the season doing scoring, preparing fruit & generally just lending a hand to ensure our kids have a great time. With a speci

10SINCE2010: Bowling #1 - Dinusha Rathnasiri Big Dino makes a big entrance. When of you think of Dino, qualities that come to mind revolve around searing heat, unplayable bouncers and a presence at the bowling crease which can only be described as intimidating. Rattling just about every batsmen in his path, with big Dino sending down thunderbolts wickets and mayhem were always inevitable. Combining a sharp mind for the game of cricket with his unlimited talent and ability, the ball in Dino’s hand proved a safe haven for the Yarraleen Cricket Club time and time again. Powering the Yarras to victory with regularity, Dino’s crowning accomplishment came in his masterpiece of a 10 wicket match haul in Round 9 of the 2016/17 season. With the Yarras under Dino’s captaincy, bowling first was never out of the question. Leading from the front, Dino took charge of the contest from the outset and put on a fast bowling exhibition for the ages. Steamrolling through a Heatherdale opposition for a lowly 106, Dino helped himself to a scintillating 7-34 and put the Yarras in the box seat. With the batsmen following skipper Dino’s requests an outright victory was once again on the cusp. With the 6 points secured, the Yarras would need to defend their well-deserved lead of 148 in search of 10 points. With a defiant effort from the Heatherdale opposition, the mastery of both Dino and Rob Parker (5-31) once again proved overwhelming with the Yarras clinching an outright victory with just 3 runs to spare. Backing up his stunning 7-24 with a crucial 3-27, Dino’s prodigious match figures of 10-61 served as a timely reminder of his status as one of the most feared bowlers the Yarras have ever boasted. With Dino proudly taking out 1st place, this concludes our 10Since2010 countdown so we thank everyone for taking part in counting down the top 10 Yarraleen bowling and batting moments in the decade that was. Go Yarras

10SINCE2010: Batting #1 - Leigh Parsons
10SINCE2010: Batting #1 - Leigh Parsons It wasn’t really ever going to be anyone else was it. With an extraordinary 11 50s and 6 100s in just 46 innings for the Yarraleen Cricket Club, it is no wonder why the legend of Leigh Parsons reaches far and wide. Those fortunate enough to witness the genius of Parso in action will be all too familiar with the sight of Leigh dispatching bowlers over their heads at will. Playing many a pivotal innings during his 4 illustrious seasons at the Yarras, his otherworldly efforts during round 8 of the 2019/20 standout for 151 obvious reasons. In a match where the Yarras dismissed Nunawading for a first innings total of 133 in 68 overs, the Yarras were due to begin their innings. Whilst most sides would’ve approached the remaining 12 overs with supreme caution Leigh Parsons threw all the rules out the window and decided the win the game overnight, yes that’s correct, 133 runs were chased down in 12 overs in fading light. However, whilst going absolutely ballistic to deliver the Yarras one of the all time great victories, Parso wasn’t finished there. In a scintillating innings of precision, class and power hitting, Leigh stormed towards an exhilarating 151* off just 75 deliveries. In what was supposedly a 2 day game of cricket, Parso continued his marauding innings, adding 8 fours and 12 sixes to his name to launch the young Yarras to an unfathomable 5/262 off just 23 overs. With a strike rate in excess of 200 and no signs of slowing down, some could see the Yarras declaration as somewhat premature with no telling what could’ve eventuated if Leigh continued on in his lethal innings. With the Yarras going on to secure a memorable outright win off the back of an supernatural Leigh Parsons masterclass, the #1 spot in our top 10 countdown of the finest Yarraleen CC batting performances of the 2010s goes to none other than one of the finest cricketers in Yarraleen’s proud history. Go Yarras.

CHARLOTTE SMITH TAKES HER FIRST SENIOR WICKET As promised we were fortunate enough to have Charlotte’s first wicket in senior cricket captured on film courtesy of Charlotte’s mum Teresa. Charlotte finished her first game of senior cricket with figures of 1-4 off 3 overs and the moment captured below will be remembered by all for years to come in a proud day for all involved. We also wish Charlotte all the best in her cricket over the coming weeks as she represents the BHRDCA in the VMCU Claudia Fatone Shield. Go Yarras.
