These victories are dedicated to Big Dukes grandfather who passed away yesterday morning. Duke still went out and won his division, and I want to honour his grandfather in this post ❤️

On Tuesday I was driving home in the afternoon from work. There was a major collision on yan yean road, and so I contacted my daughter Mariam to tell her it was blocked off and she should take another route home. The police answered her phone and told me that the accident that I was looking at, was in fact my daughter Mariam.

She collapsed while she was driving, ended up on the wrong side of the road, smashed through a pole and landed in a Ditch. When I ran towards the car, it was completely destroyed and she was unresponsive. She was bloodied and bruised and remained unconscious for quite some time.

There is a point to why I’m writing this. When I was in emergency waiting to see what the outcome was, I wasn’t thinking about her academic achievements. I wasn’t thinking about how many bjj competitions she had won or how successful she was in her job. None of that came to my mind.

I sat in emergency thinking about how sweet of a person she was, and how I hadn’t told her enough. I was thinking about the times she felt sad and I didn’t comfort her. The times she wanted to spend time with me but I was too busy. These things were literally running through my head as I waited. And it killed me.

Sometimes we put the most valuable part of ourselves into worthless things. And the things that are valuable we neglect.

Think about that today. When was the last time you hugged your parents and told them you love them? When did you last ask your students or team mates how they are, personally? Sometimes we rush to achieve, and the truth is that we can often forget the people who are standing right beside us as we focus on our goal. But these people matter. Some of them may not be ok. One day, you won’t be able to speak to them. They may no longer be around...but they are today.

My daughter is going to be ok, and I’ll be back to AET this week. I missed you all.

But I really wanted to say that the next time you walk into training, as you focus on being a champion, remember to appreciate and enjoy the little things on your journey... Because one day you may look back like I did, and realise that they were actually the big things.

An amazing night for our team yesterday. Thomas messo won by armbar in the first minute, abby dominated by points and then finished her opponent via armbar, big duke won with a beautiful take down, Mohammed from our affiliate G force won by ankle lock with ten seconds remaining, and Thien from our affiliate M9A won his combat jits by unanimous decision.
Luis lost by decision but put up a great fight.

I'm so proud of everyone for their dominating performances. And to Luis... a loss that makes you humble is far more valuable than a victory that makes you arrogant. This loss is going to be a blessing for you.

It was such a blessed weekend for our team... AETs Mark Furnari wins the title at demolition mma! .. Aet affiliate Jet fisher from primal Mma also wins a title at Demolition! Aet affiliate Jonno Mica from Combat 1 wins his 3rd fight in a row as a pro with a slick submission! And young Ross and Vanessa from our affiliate G Force win both the British open and the Cyprus open championships!

If a coach can not see the champion within the student who is a beginner, untalented, anxious and struggling, then you will never witness them achieving great things. The best teams don't focus on picking fruits, but on watering the seeds..

Your dominance in training will reach a peak and people will praise you for it...but i assure you that as you age and injury catches up to you, it will decline. At one time you'll be the best guy in the room, but this too will pass. You can be a martial arts superstar, but sooner or later someone else will take your place as the best.

There's one thing you can keep, that grows in strength as you age, and that no one can take away from you. Its your character. As grapplers your takedowns will fail, but helping lift others up is far greater. Your striking may fail, but you can choose to stand strong and fight for people who have suffered the cruel blows of life. Your mma career will come to an end, but your love will be spoken of long after you're gone.

I have a disabled son, and sometimes, people aren't so nice to him. Not everyone has compassion. But in his great suffering, my son became my greatest teacher. I know that sounds corny, but it's the honest truth. He taught me the importance of making people feel like they belong. You can be a champion fighter, and you'll get all my love. But if you are struggling, feel depressed, have a disability etc.... I see my son in you.... and you will be treated like a champion.

A new mega gym coming, countless bjj champions, ufc fighters, the club is on fire. But the way we treat people matters most. Compassion and care for the person, above the fighter, will always be the heart of the Australian Elite Team.

Classes have been packed out, and I have a special Christmas gift on the way for The Australian Elite Team.... Plans are underway for our team to move into a new venue within the next 4-6 months.

Over 1,100 m²...!! One hundred and fifty carparks, Double size the grappling mats, an Olympic size boxing ring, a 9 metre mma cage, a fully equipped strength and conditioning area, showers, a full time Cafe, full time masseurs, saunas and so much more. It's costing a small fortune, but it's time to match the quality of our venue with the quality of our team!

Last night my students completed at one of the best shows we've ever been invited to... the fusion fighting champions, it was amazing.

Brown belt Colby fought in a super fight and looked absolutely amazing out there winning via submission.

Big Ricky from our affiliate Resilience looked strong and fought a smart game also taking the win against a tough opponent.

My brother Daniel from 10th planet put on an amazing performance making everyone proud.

Michael Messo fought a tough black belt and was unable get the win. But we know what we have to do to improve and come back stronger. Still very proud of you brother.

My purple belt Amen, won all 3 of his fights against some seriously good opponents, winning the 8 man challenge and taking home the belt. If you don't know who Amen is, you should start paying attention. He's been absolutely dominating the competition scene all year, and has risen to the top of the purple belt pool in Bjj Australia. He's such a humble quiet guy, but transforms into a savage when he competes. You've got that special thing Amen, I'm incredibly proud of you. Love ya Amen you are a warrior and a legend brother 🙏 ❤

To everyone that competed and lost from other teams, you all looked pretty amazing out there. Well done 👏
