This week we have had a few patients who have had intense, acute, sudden, and painful back pain, with their back seizing up in a split second, seemingly come out of nowhere and really take them by surprise. Whether it was while bending over to pick up a towel off the bathroom floor, reaching up to grab a mug from a high cupboard, or simply…getting out of bed!

Sometimes it’s not WHAT you did at the time your neck or back seized up that was the cause of the back spasm, but moreso that there was already a weakness building up in that area, and it was just at that moment your body decided to let you know about it!

This brings us to the most important lesson Dr Danny and Lilley will always try and educate their patients on…MAINTENANCE IS THE KEY!

When your Chiropractor or Myotherapist mention a timeframe to return for your next treatment, it is often because they are predicting how long it might take for your muscles and joints to start tightening up and stiffening up again, hence they are hoping to get to the build up while it is manageable and not causing you pain. When treatments are left too far in between, the tightness builds up and build up until one day, your body gives you a massive sign…which unfortunately is often a great deal of pain!

We always say a maintenance treatment every 4-6 weeks is much better than a very painful seize up every 2-3 months that can then take a few treatments to settle down.
