Going through Dad's things was so sad, until I found this gem carefully folded (!!). He painted this at age 75 (he was 103 when he passed away last June 28, 2023).
My profound and sincere thanks to dear friend LIU Rendi (Tower) and Ms GUANG Mei Jie for putting this art into scroll form, a wonderful reminder of an astonishing person.
Some of you may have heard there was a fire at the Temple in South Melbourne. To set the record straight, it is *not* suspicious (we're not a tobacco/vape shop or a bikie HQ), it was probably as a result of the CNY activities and although the main worship area was totally destroyed, the tens of thousands of tablets of the ancestors are intact, despite minimal water damage. I'm devastated of course, but Dragons are as resourceful as they are powerful. My thanks to all who have supported us at this time. Heartbreaking but not spirit-breaking.
To all my friends and FB acquaintances, may you have a wonderful Year of the Dragon, with good health, prosperity and joy. To my detractors, may we find a peaceful resolution to those things about which we disagree.
One can have no higher hope for the New Year than tranquillity throughout the world. I wish this for my circle of friends, but importantly, for those affected by the horrors of the IDF and increasing militarisation of those who cannot be trusted. While I realise this is a vain hope, I know my friends and I will still urge peace and dialogue over armaments and endless pain.
Finally, 2 pieces of New Year goodness to make you smile and remember, I am Cantonese, not a Mandarin speaker...

Tuesday night's concert (Yan Huichang & Hong Kong Orchestra") at the Melbourne Town Hall lived up to expectations. From the "Dream of the Red Chamber" to "The Terra Cotta Warriors". Using a variety of traditional Chinese instruments, including, for the want of a better description, the Chinese version of the Cello, called the Gehu. "Ge" meaning revolutionary, and "Hu" derived from "Huqin 胡琴" the generic term for all Chinese bowed string instruments. The Gehu comes in two sizes, the Da-Gehu 大哥胡 (da meaning big) and the Diyin Gehu 低音哥胡 (diyin meaning low pitched or bass)。 Or course, also with the ever present erhu 二胡。 The concert concluded with a medley of Christmas Carrols on the wonderful Chinese instruments。
Hi all, I trust this finds you beginning to relax and wind down for the festive season.
This is a time for Australian families to gather and celebrate the end of one year and welcome the new. We live in a lucky country, unsullied by war, immense poverty or cataclysmic weather events. Whilst enjoying end-of-year celebrations, I also ask you to remember those from other parts of the world whose lives and land are being destroyed by war. While we here may not be able to do much to change this situation, we can play our part in world peace by continuing to promote friendship and understanding between the people of Australia and China. It is by friendship, not submarines and drones, that conflict will be averted.
Finally, on behalf of the Committee, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas or festive season, and a wonderful, successful and happy 2024, the Year of the Dragon.
Our 2023 Annual General meeting has been rescheduled to 2.00pm on Saturday 13 January 2024, Lv 4 Ross House 247 Flinders Lane Melbourne. Please put this in your diary and we look forward to seeing you there.
祝大家圣诞节快乐

Hi All
We have just been notified (copy below) that there will be a demonstration in the City tomorrow afternoon. This will mean that transport and car parking will be difficult to access, therefore the Executive have decided to postpone the AGM to the new year. In the meantime, watch out for our next newsletter.
On Sunday 26th November it is anticipated that demonstrations will occur with a march occurring from the State Library Victoria, starting at approximately Midday to 3pm. Possible route of the march is south along Swanston Street. Other possible streets affected: East along Bourke street to Parliament House or East on Flinders Street and arriving at Treasury Gardens. It is unknown how many protestors will be taking part, but it is expected that the demonstrations will cause disruptions to transport services, residents and businesses in the CBD during this period.
Many apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.
