Dr Yazdaneh Galt and her husband Jonathan are pleased to share news of daughter Noora Niasari’s film “ Shayda” that recently won the WA Cinefestoz contest.

The film is based on an unpublished memoir written by Yazdaneh based around her early life in Australia.

The film was recently selected to represent Australia at the 2024 Oscars Best International Film category.

Yazdaneh and I are excited to announce the Australian Premier of “Shayda” written and directed by our daughter Noora Niasari. It tells the story 25 years ago of her mother, Dr Yazdaneh Galt’s, early life in Australia. Thematically it depicts the lived experience many women worldwide who flee domestic violence to build a future for themselves and protect their children.

Filmed in Melbourne it stars Zar Amir Ebrahimi (Best actor Cannes 2022) with Cate Blanchett as executive producer.

The feature film was accepted to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January this year and went on to win the Audience Award and was acquired by Sony Pictures Classic.

The Australian Premier is on 3 August and tickets can be obtained from the Melbourne International Film Festival website.
