Here’s one you may not have thought of – you can reuse TAP WATER!​​​​​​​​​When you’re running water to get it to hot/cold, do it into a jug or bucket. Use that jug to water the plants, rinse dishes, wet a cloth for wiping – anything! This is one of our favourite ways to reduce—meal planning. If you plan your meals, you reduce wastage and reduce the amount you’re spending on food you don’t use—and with the cost of groceries what they are at the moment, that is nothing to sneeze at. We know that when it comes to meal planning, there’s a lot of ‘this is the best way’ approaches out there—we think it’s more like ‘find your own way—whatever works best for you!’. I don’t have a tonne of clothes and a lot of them are over 5 years old, but I still have a very ‘built in the 1970s’ size closet and need a little more space so I can actually access the clothes I do want to wear. Years ago I heard the tip of turning around all your clothes on the hangers, and if you haven’t worn it after 3 months, consider donating or selling it. I’m telling you – it works! We know for many households, Easter brings with it a whole LOT of chocolate eggs. So we couldn't think of a better time to share this top tip!🐰🐣​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​For so long when I’d use foil (or enjoy an Easter egg or two), once I’d finish with it, I’d just look at it… like, ‘What do I DO with you?’ Recycle? Bin? It was definitely a ‘wish cycling’ item for me but now I know what to do – recycle! BUT – with one small twist… ball it up! Collect up foil until you have a ball the size of a tennis ball, then pop it in the recycling. This way, it won’t interfere with the machines used in the recycling and sorting process. Now you have eat those Easter Eggs guilt free!! 😋

A step stool is not just a handy way to reach the top shelves. In the hands of a small child, it’s a pathway to all the things you forgot you popped up high to keep away from your children. Let’s talk ‘reuse’…​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Reuse is one of our top priorities at Jumping Jack, only we call it ‘giving your clothes a new life’. In our ‘Reduce Reuse Recycle’ series, we’re going to explore how you can apply these in other parts of your life.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ One of our favourite things to reuse is lemons – we never waste a drop!​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ 🍋 Left over lemon can be popped in your water bottle to give it a delicious lift​​​​​​​​ 🍋 Lemon rinds that have been juiced make great cleaners – pop some salt or bicarb on them and rub them on your stainless steel sinks or on your baths; the shine is crazy!​​​​​​​​ 🍋 Another use for a lemon rind is popping it in the cutlery holder in your dishwasher before a clean cycle – really freshens it up!​​​​​​​​ 🍋 Does your microwave have it’s own smell? Put leftover lemon in a glass jug with cup of water in your microwave and turn on for one minute for easy clean and clean scent​​​​​​​​ 🍋 Freeze or freeze dry slices for your G&T 💁🏼‍♀️

Also yes – according to WWF Australia, Australians use an average of 130kg of plastic per person each year 😢 So one of the ways you can reduce that is switching to refillable products, which has the added bonus of generally saving money! There are a range of options, too – you can look for refillable products when you’re at the supermarket, visit a local or see if your local wholefoods does refillables, or research online for the products you want – there are a tonne of options, and they all help reduce your plastic usage.
