Is it time to get your mend on? Reuse is finding a new use, or fixing, something you already have. We find it’s more of a mind shift – the steps involved in mending sometimes seem too much, but honestly? There are often less steps to mending than buying, and it’s better for the environment and also – hello, cheaper! So get out the old needle and thread, and get going!

This seems obvious but it seems like lots of us are missing this great opportunity! Glass jars are often free (wash and reuse them from your kitchen cupboard) so handy - and pretty, too! Use them for...♻️ Leftovers – it's not just plastic containers that can hold your extra spag bol! ♻️ Those awkward extra bits that don’t fit into your bigger storage containers (why is there always a bit left?) Put them in a jar – its air tight and readily available! ♻️ Organisation – store tall things like your reusable straws, or makeup brushes ♻️ Storing your very own preserves – tomato season is here! ♻️ Meal prep – make dressings, do layer salad ingredients or store extras of dry spice mixes

Here’s one you may not have thought of – you can reuse TAP WATER!When you’re running water to get it to hot/cold, do it into a jug or bucket. Use that jug to water the plants, rinse dishes, wet a cloth for wiping – anything! Same goes for tipping out water bottle water – great little boost for your house plants! #greenandsimple #greenparent #sustainablemum #PreLovedBabyClothes #PreLovedKidsClothes #sustainablekidsclothes #motherhood #NaturalMumma

When you start getting into your sustainability journey, it can get kinda stressful. You’re one person, one family and the mountain ahead of you can look too big to climb! That’s why this book is so important. It’s choc a block with inspiring stories about people around Australia who are taking action on climate change, helping create a better future for our children and for the planet. Cool huh? #sustainablemum #greenparenting #australianmum #PreLovedBabyClothes #PreLovedKidsClothes #sustainablekidsclothes #mumsofaustralia #prelovedkidsclothesau #ConsciousParenting #ecomum #SustainableBaby

We’re incredibly lucky to have access to modern technology and reliable infrastructure like electricity, clean water – stop for a second and really feel that, because millions of people around the world don’t, even if they are basic human rights. We think we have a responsibility to use these resources wisely – this is how we’re doing it when it comes to lights in our home. πŸ’‘ Using lamps over lighting a whole room πŸ’‘ Making sure lights are turned off when we’re not using them πŸ’‘ Making sustainable choices about the light bulbs – LED and halogen use as little as 20% of the electricity πŸ’‘ Dispose of old bulbs appropriately #environment #sustainableliving #sustainable #prelovedkidsaus #secondhandkidsclothes #ecokidsfashion #greenparenting

We have lots of fresh new looks for spring arriving on our website! Here’s a little preview of some of our favourites πŸ€©πŸ™Œ Go to: www.JumpingJack.com.au to take a look! #preloved #prelovedkidsaus #secondhandkidsclothes #consignment #sustainablekids #secondhandseptember

It’s something we were told as kids and now we tell our kids a lot – β€œWear layers!!” – but it’s just as important for as adults, especially in between seasons when the weather is so changeable! PLUS it is actually a good sustainability point as well - If you wear more clothes to keep warm, you’re less likely to want to buy that coat you’ve been eyeing off all winter long 😜 #preloved #prelovedkidsaus #secondhandkidsclothes #consignment #sustainablekids

We learned in the most recent Threadup Resale report that secondhand displaced nearly 1 billion new clothing purchases in 2021 that normally would have been bought new, which is simply phenomenal. That’s reducing demand – that’s the sort of change that will only build and grow! ♻️ πŸ™ŒπŸ» #refusesingleuse #slowfashion #preloved #PreLovedBabyClothes #PreLovedKidsClothes #buybetter #circularfashion #consignment #secondhandkidslcothesau

This is one of our favourite ways to reduceβ€”meal planning. If you plan your meals, you reduce wastage and reduce the amount you’re spending on food you don’t useβ€”and with the cost of groceries what they are at the moment, that is nothing to sneeze at. We know that when it comes to meal planning, there’s a lot of β€˜this is the best way’ approaches out thereβ€”we think it’s more like β€˜find your own wayβ€”whatever works best for you!’. For us, it’s β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹πŸ a weekly online shop β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹πŸ main meals planned in a list but not restricted to specific days 🍏 a mix of recipe complexity (easy for those busy days etc) 🍏 making sure we store fruit and veg in whatever way helps it last the longest #sustainablefamilyliving #greenparenting #wastefreeparenting #gogreen #sustainable #prelovedkidsclothes #secondhandkidsclothesau #Melbourneprelovedfashion #consignmentforkids

I don’t have a tonne of clothes and a lot of them are over 5 years old, but I still have a very β€˜built in the 1970s’ size closet and need a little more space so I can actually access the clothes I do want to wear. Years ago I heard the tip of turning around all your clothes on the hangers, and if you haven’t worn it after 3 months, consider donating or selling it. I’m telling you – it works! Clothes we don’t wear aren’t doing us any good, but someone else might get a lot of use out of them! #refusesingleuse #ecofriendly #smallchanges #slowfashion #preloved #PreLovedBabyClothes #PreLovedKidsClothes #circularfashion

β€˜Avoid fast fashion’ is easy to say, but that little bit harder to do; so where do you actually start?! We think about this a heap – here are our ideas. πŸ‘— Get to know the content of your closet(s), really well. What have you got? What do you need? πŸ‘— Once you know, shop for the gaps – but start with preloved items πŸ‘— Cant get it preloved? Then go to the shops – but buy green (sustainable brands, quality items that will last) Is there something you’d like to buy for the love of it? Make it special – save up, do your research and buy something that is likely to last, both from a quality point of view but from a style one too. We’ve put together a handy BLOG on this very topic- make sure you check it out: https://www.jumpingjack.com.au/our-simple-guide-to-spending-less-on-clothes

Happy Easter from our family to yours! We hope you have a safe and joyful break. πŸ°πŸ£β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹ We will be enjoying some time with our families (and eating lots of chocolate) over the Easter weekend. All orders received between the 5-11th of April will be shipped on the 12th of April.

We know for many households, Easter brings with it a whole LOT of chocolate eggs. So we couldn't think of a better time to share this top tip!πŸ°πŸ£β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹For so long when I’d use foil (or enjoy an Easter egg or two), once I’d finish with it, I’d just look at it… like, β€˜What do I DO with you?’ Recycle? Bin? It was definitely a β€˜wish cycling’ item for me but now I know what to do – recycle! BUT – with one small twist… ball it up! Collect up foil until you have a ball the size of a tennis ball, then pop it in the recycling. This way, it won’t interfere with the machines used in the recycling and sorting process. Now you have eat those Easter Eggs guilt free!! πŸ˜‹

A step stool is not just a handy way to reach the top shelves. In the hands of a small child, it’s a pathway to all the things you forgot you popped up high to keep away from your children. Think glitter, sharpies, paint… Not to mention strong cleaning products, Panadol and the good scissors! So if you see a step stool on the move, run, don’t walk! 😜

Let’s talk β€˜reuse’… Reuse is one of our top priorities at Jumping Jack, only we call it β€˜giving your clothes a new life’. In our β€˜Reduce Reuse Recycle’ series, we’re going to explore how you can apply these in other parts of your life. One of our favourite things to reuse is lemons – we never waste a drop! πŸ‹ Left over lemon can be popped in your water bottle to give it a delicious lift πŸ‹ Lemon rinds that have been juiced make great cleaners – pop some salt or bicarb on them and rub them on your stainless steel sinks or on your baths; the shine is crazy! πŸ‹ Another use for a lemon rind is popping it in the cutlery holder in your dishwasher before a clean cycle – really freshens it up! πŸ‹ Does your microwave have it’s own smell? Put leftover lemon in a glass jug with cup of water in your microwave and turn on for one minute for easy clean and clean scent πŸ‹ Freeze or freeze dry slices for your G&T πŸ’πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

We all know that Christmas is a time of excess waste, from all that packaging and gift wrapping to food. So if you're looking on a way to cut back on the waste in the new year we, we can help! When it comes to the 3 Rs, reduce is probably the trickiest one to pin down, so we’re going to share tips regularly on how you can build flex your β€˜reduce’ muscle. This week we’re looking at reducing on cleaning packaging… Specific? Yes. Important? Also yes – according to WWF Australia, Australians use an average of 130kg of plastic per person each year 😒 So one of the ways you can reduce that is switching to refillable products, which has the added bonus of generally saving money! There are a range of options, too – you can look for refillable products when you’re at the supermarket, visit a local or see if your local wholefoods does refillables, or research online for the products you want – there are a tonne of options, and they all help reduce your plastic usage. Neat, hey? 😊️ πŸ’« P.S. if #preloved clothing is on your list of things to try out this year go to: www.jumpingjack.com.au to take a look!
