Studio Artist Spotlight | SUE THOMAS, JO LUDBROOK & SUE SVENDSEN
Working inside the Glasshouse Studio at Montsalvat, Sue Thomas, Jo Ludbrook and Sue Svendsen share a love textiles. Sue Thomas fuses colour, texture, and drape to inspire form in her carefully designed clothing, cushions, and soft furnishing. Jo Ludbrook found her creative roots in the soft and colourful materials of childhood memory. This ignited a life-long passion taking her to the other side of the world to England and back, where she continued her sewing practice.
Meet the artists on Sunday 2nd October at the Montsalvat Arts Festival! Don’t miss out! Tickets available here: https://www.montsalvat.com.au/montsalvat-arts-festival-2022
As a child of the 70's I am unapologetic for my love of orange, purple and green. They are the colors that I'm drawn to time after time.
I've had this spectacularly embroidered mid section of a wedding Kimono for years and dyed the silk velvet ends to match. The orange and gold fabric with the fans was previously an Obi that was also a perfect match. Sometimes things just come together synchronistically.

It’s been a labour of love and we hope it assists others to sit quietly and comfortably in peace xx

I've always been obsessed by this dress worn by Kiera Knightley in Atonement (as so many people seem to be) that I bought some green silk satin ages ago to make a cushion to match. I've also been obsessed with Japanese textiles for as long as I can remember and have been thinking about doing a trip to one of the last Kimono embroiderers in Japan.

After the Montsalvat arts festival on the weekend, the gardens here look spectacular. All the volunteer gardeners quiet (& sometimes not so quiet) efforts paid off.
I’ve been looking for a bedside lamp for absolutely ages and thought I’d lash out and buy something truly gorgeous but I just could not find anything. Then good old hard rubbish came to the rescue. Behold my new lamp which cost me $3.99 for the inside of the shade from Savers. All the rest from my fabric stash and hard rubbish. Even the light bulb!!!
These cooler summer days have been a total joy in the workroom at Montsalvat.
Because we work in a glasshouse, if the temperature is over 28 degrees it’s almost unbearable in there. I’ve always meant to get a thermometer to see the actual inside temperature. I bet it will be quite a shock when I do.
