Coast Guard St Kilda
Coast Guard St Kilda provides volunteer Marine Search & Rescue services on the waters of Port Philip.
Come and say hello …
Our mates from Coast Guard St Kilda will be showcasing on water hand held flare demonstrations at the Melbourne Boat Show this weekend. Be sure to stop by to have a chat with the crew and learn about how your local Australian Volunteer Coast Guard helps to keep you safe on the water.
While you’re there, stop past the Wyndham Harbour exhibitor stand to learn about the marina that we call home.

🦚💨 After concluding an incident in the vicinity of Black Rock this afternoon our crew was waved down by members of the public on Mordialloc Pier, concerned that a child on an inflatable had been blown offshore in strong winds.
Covering the 1km distance, the crew arrived to find an inflatable bird in deep water, but unoccupied. Not known for its aquatic prowess, the Peacock was returned to its natural habitat on-shore, and reunited with its grateful young owner.
If you see someone in difficulty on the water, dial 000.
Come rain, hail or shine.
But mostly rain and hail. 🌧️🌧️
Victoria Police Marine Investigation Unit officers are investigating a boat fire in Altona on Thursday, 26 September.

Immediately after concluding water winching training with Air Ambulance this morning, we were tasked to a CFA (Country Fire Authority) incident in Altona Bay.
Arriving first on scene, our crew discovered a vessel fully ablaze, and undertook an area search of the water for any casualties. Fire Rescue Victoria vessels arrived shortly afterwards, bringing the fire under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

What a difference a day makes.
Our crews were thankful that most people heeded warnings and stayed away from the water during the recent abnormally high tides and destructive winds.
Yesterday Port Phillip looked glassy flat, and crews were back out after dark rescuing stranded boaters.
Our crews have been assisting Toll Ambulance Rescue with water and vessel rescue training over the past few days.
The participants from Brunei were introduced to Melbourne’s late Autumn weather over the course of two days, with crews from Coast Guard Werribee and Coast Guard Queenscliff also facilitating the sessions.
🌩️ The calm before the storm.
Our crew worked with Ambulance Victoria yesterday to undertake MICA Water and Vessel Rescue training. The blue skies gave way to an afternoon of weather that was very … different.
Most people are relieved to be rescued at sea, but these guys were somewhat overjoyed to see our crew last night!

🚁 This striking image was taken by one of our crew as Water Winching wrapped up for the day. The storm was still some distance away, and Mother Nature was good enough not to interrupt these important sessions.
Our crews, along with those from Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad, have been assisting Ambulance Victoria with its annual MICA Flight Paramedic Water and Vessel Rescue training program.
Another beautiful evening on Port Phillip, and another rescue.
Remember, your vessel batteries need to be checked to ensure they are reliable when you need them.
It’s been a busy long weekend on the water, and not everyone was lucky enough to make the final furlong.
Their odds of making it home safely were greatly improved with the help of volunteer Marine Search and Rescue units around the state.
Our crews were tasked a number of times, including upstream in the Maribyrnong River to the vicinity of Flemington Race Course.
If you’re heading to the Melbourne Boat Show in Docklands this weekend, come and say hello to our crew and have a look around our vessel.

Yesterday’s great weather drew plenty of people out onto the water, which kept our crews busy into the hours of darkness.
⛽️ Don’t forget to check your fuel before you depart, it’s very difficult to get back home without it!
Volunteers from both Coast Guard Queenscliff and Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad were involved in the recent rescue at Point Lonsdale. Well done to the crews for undertaking a successful rescue in challenging conditions.
One of yesterday’s incident responses saw our crew back in the Yarra River after a vessel became disabled in the Port of Melbourne.
While conditions were calm, being unable to manoeuvre your vessel can pose significant risks in an area of high shipping traffic. The occupant of this vessel was brought safely ashore, thanks to some initial assistance from Port of Melbourne.
It’s not just outboard motors that can let you down, even those onboard larger vessels need a hand back to shore sometimes.
Check your engine. Check your fuel. Check your safety gear. Before you head out onto the water.
It was a perfectly still Spring evening in Docklands on Sunday, and this 13 metre vessel with 7 people onboard almost made it back to its berth; but not quite.
Our crew was tasked to head into the city and help the 5 adults and 2 children safely back to shore.
