Local Remix: Still Life is on at Montsalvat until 23 June. My latest artwork Artist gurawiny / Artist flowers is my take on the traditional still life painting of flowers in a vase where you get the one perspective to focus on. Made from paper, sticky tape, dead art markers, cardboard and reclaimed garden pots, this sculptural piece gives you all the perspectives and is my modern take on still life.

To answer Jemma’s question - yes these bracelets can be worn by both Ally & Mob! Thanks for your support Jemma!

"Treaty" bracelet. Each bracelet is slightly different, so each bracelet, is unique. Part of my Defiance Collection. Available from my website www.ArtistVandal.com

What is a Treaty? For Australia's first nations peoples a Treaty is a formal acknowledgement that Australia's first nations peoples have a continuing connection to the land of Australia prior to European settlement. A Treaty also acts as an agreement for First Nations peoples to negotiate with the Australian government on matters that have systematically impacted them since settlement and continue to do so to their generations till this day.

The Koorie Heritage Trust is delighted to announce the new cohort for the Blak Design program – fashion and textiles.

From an open call for entry, 10 multi-disciplinary artists have been selected for the 2024 program. They are: Matty Chilly (Wiradjuri, Wemba Wemba, Mutti Mutti, Yorta Yorta, Waddi Waddi, Barapa Barapa and Gubbi Gubbi); Tarsha Davis (Kuku, Yalanji and Palawa); Tahnee Day (Yorta Yorta, Gunditjmara, Wemba Wemba); Josh Deane (Palawa); Tahnee Edwards (Yorta Yorta, Taungurung); Teena Moffatt (Yorta Yorta, Gunaikurnai, Gunditjmara); Michelle Searle (Awabakal); Emma Stenhouse (Ngarrindjeri); Tricia Van Der-Kuyp (Wiradjuri) and Emmy Webbers (Gunai/Kurnai).

The Program will be delivered at the Koorie Heritage Trust in Fed Square and in the RMIT University’s renowned School of Fashion and Textiles from January 2024.

As part of the Blak Design program, each participant will undertake intensive hands-on workshops; learning and refining their fashion and textile skills. They will be mentored by leading industry experts. Over the year, participants will also take part in a series of hands-on intensive design and making workshops, as well as small business skills workshops, along with access to industry and cultural mentors, design professionals, and industry practitioners.

Blak Design is presented by KHT with the generous support of programming partners Creative Victoria, City of Melbourne, the Australian Government Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support, the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory board, and ANZ Bank. Presented in partnership with The Ian Potter Foundation, RMIT University and precinct partner Fed Square.

Monarch budyabudya (2023)

Medium: Cardboard and mixed media

The word budyabudya, means butterfly in the Wiradjuri language. The word Monarch means a sovereign head of state, especially a king or queen. Monarch budyabudya is a strengthening of the We Are message. Because it still needs to be said. The black butterflies represent the first nations people, the white butterflies the skeletons, the Monarch butterfly dominates and smothers parts of the message, keeping it oppressed and hidden in parts.

Bundang art exhibit on until 12 August at Wyreena arts Centre.
