Local Remix: Still Life is on at Montsalvat until 23 June. My latest artwork Artist gurawiny / Artist flowers is my take on the traditional still life painting of flowers in a vase where you get the one perspective to focus on. Made from paper, sticky tape, dead art markers, cardboard and reclaimed garden pots, this sculptural piece gives you all the perspectives and is my modern take on still life.

Making a mess
Coming up soon in May, I’ll be part of an exhibition at Montsalvat called Local Remix: Still Life. I was asked what still life meant to me. When you hear the terms Still Life, do you think of Still Life art or something else? What does it mean to you? https://www.montsalvat.com.au/whats-on-1/2024/5/3/exhibition-local-remix-still-life-nillumbik-collections-exhibition?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3Dsvj1YI-swnfiJhvsY1LJ9K3dAq0WiHVoALfmoZdpPsGga9dKii8YKAM_aem_AQAsJ8Ggb_mII142Ch2ec5ammdXoHad7AfOXJHWbJXQIDHr2flMSYsObJLFQ3emAINWcQdX1CHbj4PiG0WrC73Qr

"Treaty" bracelet. Each bracelet is slightly different, so each bracelet, is unique. Part of my Defiance Collection. Available from my website www.ArtistVandal.com
What is a Treaty? For Australia's first nations peoples a Treaty is a formal acknowledgement that Australia's first nations peoples have a continuing connection to the land of Australia prior to European settlement. A Treaty also acts as an agreement for First Nations peoples to negotiate with the Australian government on matters that have systematically impacted them since settlement and continue to do so to their generations till this day.

Monarch budyabudya (2023)
Medium: Cardboard and mixed media
The word budyabudya, means butterfly in the Wiradjuri language. The word Monarch means a sovereign head of state, especially a king or queen. Monarch budyabudya is a strengthening of the We Are message. Because it still needs to be said. The black butterflies represent the first nations people, the white butterflies the skeletons, the Monarch butterfly dominates and smothers parts of the message, keeping it oppressed and hidden in parts.
Bundang art exhibit on until 12 August at Wyreena arts Centre.
