Big Games Night Out is back and bigger than ever!

This year's action-packed program will feature legendary and indie games, live music, DJs, performances and an unforgettable showcase of cosplay fashion.

Big Games Night Out will also present the global premiere of Blaktasia: Invasion of The Murk – the debut game from Naarm-based, Aboriginal-led studio GUCK.

The Fed Square façade will be lit up with large-scale projections of the game, paired with First Nations music and roving performers to immerse spectators in the Blaktasia Universe.

The whole Square will be buzzing on Thursday 10 October with an incredible takeover of games, fantasy, cosplay and tech 🎮 👾 📱

Make music, play, and learn at The Plants this September for RESET!

The Plants are new experimental musical instruments coming to Fed Square from 23–26 September.

These incredible plant-based instruments combine organic matter with digital sensors, so you can touch real plants, connect with nature, and create new music and sounds.

There’s also workshops run by Playable Streets so you can learn all about these unique organic instruments and how to master the art of music-making.

Workshops will involve making music, drawing, design, and technology – come along and join a magical world of musical plants!

Melbourne International Jazz Festival is back for another bumper year of jazz, funk, and soul 🎶 🎷

For ten epic days, the festival will take over Melbourne’s streets and music venues – kicking off with a huge weekend of free jazz at Fed Square.

This Saturday, celebrate India’s Independence Day with a jam-packed day of action at Fed Square including a ceremonial flag raising, performances, a dance competition, free Indian Film Festival of Melbourne film screenings, talks and more!

There’ll even be a special guest appearance from the celebrated actor and producer Ram Charan, as well as dancer and actor Malaika Arora who’ll be judging the Remitly IFFM Dance Competition 🤩

2024 is set to deliver another bumper year for ALWAYS LIVE 🎶

ALWAYS LIVE is a 17-day celebration of contemporary live music creating memorable music moments across Victoria. This year’s program has just been announced 📣

This year, Fed Square is hosting Garage Band – an electrifying showcase featuring 25 young bands under the age of 21 performing live on the Main Stage in front of friends, family, industry and live-music lovers.

We’re also looking forward to Yerambooee, where Wurundjeri, Woi-Wurrung and Yolngu from North East Arnhem Land will present a gathering of song, ceremony and dance on an enormous sand circle in the Main Square. It’s free, family-friendly and everyone is welcome to come along!

Melbourne Fringe has cooked up a storm for its 2024 program!

This year, you can ‘Eat You Art Out’ with a delicious array of events and performances for art and food lovers to indulge in 🍽️

At Fed Square, you can catch the festival’s feature event COOKED - a pop-up food and art program by Long Prawn and collaborators where the hot plate meets the stage in this inventive series dedicated to the art of grilling! 🔥

On Swanston St Forecourt, check out Eddy by Pulsing Heart – a participatory sculptural instrument where you can spin the spheres to create an evolving soundscape 🎵

The full program is out now, check out Melbourne Fringe from 1–20 October for all the best theatre, visual art, music, comedy, performing arts and more 🎭

This weekend, experience the thrill and artistry of breakdancing at Fed Square – coinciding with the live streaming of Olympic Breakdancing on the Big Screen!

Break dancing is making its Olympic debut this year in Paris. Check out the action this Saturday and Sunday with the Olympic pre-qualifiers, round robin, quarter finals, semis and finals 🤸

Alongside the breakdancing Olympians on the Big Screen, Fed Square will play host to our very own breakdancing performances featuring B-Girl Demolition aka Demi Sorono, B-Boy Joshkun Arslan, B-Boy Ligi, B-Boy Rolly and B-Boy C-Blaze.

Beings at ACMI is filled with a colourful array of work out buddies who react in real-time to physical movement, using VFX software and game engine technology.

Brought to life by UK-based art and design collective Universal Everything the exhibition is inspired by human figures, emotion and nature.

This is Universal Everything’s largest international exhibition to date and there’s something for everyone to enjoy and play along with!

Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Children’s Day – it’s all about celebrating culture, stories, kin and community of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander children.

On this day, we’re highlighting some of our favourite free activities around the Square that First Nations kids, teens and the whole family can enjoy.

At the Koorie Heritage Trust Inc check out Spirit of the Animals sharing stories of the significance of animals in the cultural life of Victorian First Peoples, and Let’s Shake by Palawa artist Karen Casey.

At National Gallery of Victoria The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, today is the last day to see My Country – an Australian First Nations exhibition that pairs emerging First Nations artists and designers with industry mentors. You can also visit the permanent exhibition Wurrdha Marra displaying stunning artworks from a variety of First Nations artists across time and place.

If you’re visiting the Square with the family, don’t miss a trip to Big Esso by Mabu Mabu a Torres Strait owned and operated business bringing Indigenous food and culture to their delicious menu.

We’re screening Channel 9’s broadcast coverage each day of the Games including replays and highlights from 12pm–4pm and live action from 4pm–10pm.
