Did you know that 89% of the severely malnourished children we treat make a full recovery, children like Josaphat’s siblings? Take a moment to watch! 👀 #courageiscalling #40hourfamine #worldvision
In Kenya’s Kalawa district, it has not rained properly for three years and children like Joshua are on the brink of starvation. “There were days … when all we had was watery porridge,” says Joshua’s mother. “Other days, we had nothing and would go to sleep hungry.” But after courageously deciding to attend a World Vision training on climate-smart agriculture, Joshua’s father decided to create a farm pond on a slope to catch any drop of rainwater that trickled down. The result was a sustainable vegetable garden that can withstand the drought. Joshua and his family now enjoy homegrown nutritious food, have extra income for buying shoes and books, and Joshua is no longer hungry. Training communities to grow nutritious food all year round and equipping farmers with new knowledge to grow drought-resistant crops whilst also fighting climate change are some of the transformational programs that the generous funds raised by 40 Hour Famine participants go towards each year. You can help children like Joshua step out of starvation. Courage is calling on you to step up and help end child hunger. Join the 40 Hour Famine challenge at 40hourfamine.com.au today!
“When I’m hungry, my stomach hurts,” said Mohamud, 10, one of the few children in his cattle farming village who still attend school. Half his class no longer go in as they are too weak from hunger or their families have moved to humanitarian camps in search of food. Today, an estimated 50 million people across 45 countries are on the brink of famine and more than half of them are children. You can help them by joining the 40 Hour Famine and raising funds to go towards World Vision’s famine-fighting programs around the world. These programs include providing food and clean water to hungry families, providing young, malnourished children with life-saving high-energy nutrient food, training communities to grow nutritious food all year round and equipping farmers with new knowledge to grow drought-resistant crops whilst fighting climate change. Together we can help fight famine. Sign up at 40hourfamine.com.au today.
In a drought-devastated community in Kenya, Mwaka and her siblings squeeze into a tiny single-roomed house. They spend many nights hungry because of the famine brought on by the ongoing drought and devastation of the land. Unable to afford school and to distract themselves from their hunger during the day, they play games of an imaginary world where children are educated, live in good houses and have enough healthy food to enjoy. But each night they go to bed hungry, their stomachs hurting. By joining the 40 Hour Famine, you can help children like Mwaka turn their imaginary world into a reality. Head to 40hourfamine.com.au now. #courageiscalling #40hourfamine
