The Australia-Indonesia Centre (AIC) is a bilateral collaborative research initiative established by the governments of both countries, leading universities and industry. Its mission is to advance people-to-people links in science, technology, education and innovation. We acknowledge that our Melbourne office is on the traditional lands of the Boonwurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

It's been a visit full of activities with some of our key collaborators in Indonesia.
Firstly, it was a delight to meet with the research leads from Universitas Hasanuddin to discuss the exciting proposals coming in. This group is working on PAIR Sulawesi, the research program covering climate change and coastal communities, co-funded by LPDP Kementerian Keuangan RI

Sekitar 150 orang berkumpul di Universitas Mulawarman untuk pemutaran Premiere ReelOzInd! 2024. Acara ini dipandu oleh Fakultas Ilmu Budaya yang dipimpin oleh Dekan Profesor M. Bahri Aifin.
Program Festival ini menayangkan sembilan film pendek yang mendapat penghargaan Animasi Terbaik, Fiksi Terbaik, Dokumenter Terbaik dan Pembuat Film Muda Terbaik, serta Special Mention di setiap kategori.
Pemutaran film dilanjutkan dengan diskusi bersama Kartika Jahja dan Rummana Yamanie, produser dan sutradara Superia, pemenang Film Terbaik & Dokumenter Terbaik Festival tahun ini; dan Direktur AIC Indonesia Kevin Evans.
Around 150 people gathered at Samarinda University (UNMUL) for the Indonesian premiere of ReelOzInd! 2024.
The event was hosted by the Faculty of Cultural Studies, with the Dean Professor M. Bahri Aifin in attendance.
The festival program screened nine short films including those awarded Best Animation, Best Fiction, Best Documentary and Best Young Filmmaker, and Special Mentions in each category.
The screening was followed by Q& A with Kartika Jahja and Rummana Yamanie, the producer and director of Superia, winner of Best Film & Best Documentary in this year’s Festival; and the AIC Indonesia director Kevin Evans.

We were delighted to be at the premiere of the ReelOzInd Film festival in Melbourne and Samarinda last night.
This Australia-Indonesia Centre initiative asks emerging filmmakers to create a piece based on a theme which this year is diversity / keberagaman
The Melbourne launch was held at , Federation Square, with guests (including a delegation from the Indonesian Consulate-General) enjoying special screenings of the award-winning entries.
This was followed by a Q&A panel session chaired by leading cinematic journalist and film critic Peter Krausz along with director and writer Nadia Syarifah and actor Miranda Anwar whose entry Interlude earned a special mention in the fiction category.
Each entry reflected differently on the theme with powerful stories relating to the experiences of Indonesian families and First Nations Australians.

Congratulations to the Australia-Indonesia Centre’s Febi Trihermato, who has been selected to participate in the four-day Causindy conference to be held in Perth.
Febi is a research officer for the AIC based in our Jakarta office, where he has worked since 2018, and he'll have some great perspectives to share.
CAUSINDY, or the Conference of Australian and Indonesian Youth, is an organisation which provides a platform for young leaders to create stronger bilateral relationships.
The conference brings together delegates to hear from established leaders in fields such as politics, trade, education and technology and generates long-standing links between the two countries.
Well known CAUSINDY alumni include Australia's current assistant minister for foreign affairs Tim Watts, presidential advisor Gracia Billy Mambrasar and communications specialist Nadia Atmaja.

were delighted to host Rongyu Li of UQ and Phil Honeywood of the International Education Association of Australia as they discussed the Australian government’s proposed cap on international students.
The AIC’s Education Dialogue webinar heard of the need to “decouple” education from the immigration debate and the importance of international students as “ambassadors” for Australia in their own countries.
There was also discussion of the need for clarity for parents and prospective students considering whether Australia was the best international study option.
