We’re thrilled to invite Andrew Farrugia, the Secretary and Treasurer of the Australia-Taiwan Club (ATC), to share his perspective on Taiwan. Andrew, from Melbourne and married to a Taiwanese, will talk about his Taiwan experiences from an Australian point of view. Andrew studied Mandarin at National Taiwan Normal University, where he deeply immersed himself in Taiwanese culture, society, and cuisine, and made friends from all over the world. His first impression of Taiwan was the hospitality and friendliness of the people, their openness and inclusiveness, and the advanced technology and convenient transportation. Andrew loves the inclusiveness of Taiwanese people, which made him feel like one of them. He enjoyed riding YouBike around Taipei and indulging in delicious foods like beef noodle soup, salt and pepper chicken, and xiaolongbao. Learning Mandarin was initially challenging for Andrew, but with the help of the teachers at NTNU, he overcame the difficulties and enjoyed the learning process. Back in Australia, Andrew actively participates in activities of the Australia-Taiwan Club and the Taiwan Association of Australia Melbourne Chapter, promoting exchanges between Australia and Taiwan.
