Mayflies is a rare book; a life-affirming novel about death, and a runaway hit that friends pressed into the hands of their loved ones.

Now, three-time Booker nominee Andrew O’Hagan returns with another remarkable feat that’s seen him heralded as ‘the Dickens of our post-Brexit pandemic age’ (Guardian). Caledonian Road is a biting portrait of British class, politics and money, and another magnificent portrayal of male friendship written by ‘one of our sharpest observers of modern masculinity’ (Douglas Stuart).

The winner of the Christopher Isherwood Prize for Mayflies and editor-at-large for the London Review of Books, O’Hagan speaks with Michael Williams about the secrets and insecurities that haunt his work.
