Our members assisted Hastings SES Hastings Unit earlier this week.

We are extremely grateful to our very own Lieutenant Dwayne Barton, who donated life saving blood with other members from Westernport Group on Saturday. Dwayne and other Westernport Group members, were also supported by our Crib Point Brigade Secretary and Community Engagement Officer Karen Barton as they gave blood, plasma and recovered with a sit down and snack. Karen is also a CFA Health Services Officer and works as a Critical Care Nurse in a busy metropolitan hospital, where she gets to see the blood products at the other end, when she plays a part in administering blood to very unwell patients in the hospital.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for South eastern Melbourne suburbs, the Dandenongs, and Mornington Peninsula to Wilsons Promontory.
- This Watch and Act message replaces the Watch and Act issued at 3.55pm on Sunday 1 September.
- The severe weather may include destructive winds from Sunday evening averaging 55 - 65 km per hour and gusts of up to 100 - 130 km per hour possible around the south eastern Melbourne suburbs, and Mornington Peninsula to Wilsons Promontory, primarily in showers and thunderstorms.
- Abnormally High Tides are expected in the warning area.
- This will cause water levels to be above normal high tide.
- Abnormally high tides may cause coastal flooding of low-lying areas.
- These tides are possible during the high tides on late Sunday night to early Monday morning, and Monday afternoon.
For southern parts of Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island:
- Damaging surf conditions are occurring between Blairgowrie and Wilsons Promontory, particularly about exposed west and south-facing coasts.
- Conditions may temporarily ease slightly for a period during Sunday afternoon before the largest waves arrive from late Sunday evening, peaking during Monday morning.
- These conditions may produce localised damage and coastal erosion.
- Beach conditions in these areas will be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed area.
- Abnormally High Tides leading to inundation at low lying coasts are also possible about Western Port and other parts of the Central coasts with the late Sunday night to early Monday morning and the Monday afternoon high tides.
Prepare to take shelter and be aware of potential hazards caused by the severe weather.
Wishing all the CFA dads, granddads and great granddads a very Happy Fathers Day. Your dedication to keeping your communities safe is tireless and we all really appreciate you, especially on days like today.
To all the dads who have gained their angel wings, we are also thinking of you and your families today. Our picture today has some of our Crib Point brigade family with 5 dads, 1 granddad, 1 son (and 2 mums!)
Stay safe everyone and try not to burn the Sunday Fathers day Roast dinner!
Monday night our members trained in fire fighting techniques, with the car hot fire prop at Tyabb Fire Brigade. The hot fire props give our firefighters the opportunity to train on various fire scenarios, in a controlled training environment and improve their skills. Various portable training props arrive at Tyabb Fire station throughout the year, for local fire brigades to train with. Earlier this year our members had the opportunity to also train on the LPG gas bottle portable prop at Tyabb.
Community wind warning, thanks to Westernport Brigades Group.
September we see the start of a new season next week. π»π»π»Good time to start doing a "Spring" clean and declutter, reduce your fire risk, make your shed, garage and home safe.
Time to spring into action and clean up your Garage! π₯π‘ π
Last year CFA responded to 51 house fires that started in garages / vehicle storage areas.
CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria recommend installing interconnected smoke alarms in your garage if it is attached to your home to ensure you are alerted if a fire was to start.
βοΈRemoving rubbish, safely storing and charging batteries and turning off all electrical appliances can make your home safer.

Saturday afternoon the brigade attended a call out to a ruptured gas main. Our brigade was assisted by members from Bittern Fire Brigade, Somers Fire Brigade and HMAS Cerberus fire truck, a big shout out to our neighbouring brigades and a big thankyou to all the local residents in Creswell St for staying kind and courteous, when your street was blocked off and some of you were evacuated. (Neighbourhood kindness and care is another reason we love our Crib Point Community π)
Sunday morning our brigade members were back out and about in the Crib Point community, doing the smoke alarm installation program and visited 2 local residents.

CATastrophy averted last night, when the brigade was contacted by a member of the public, to ask for assistance with getting their family cat out of a large tree. Bindi (Irwin) who is an indoor cat, accidently escaped her owners door and run outside. Very frightened she ran up a large tree in her owners front yard. She was up the tree for several hours, while her owners tried to coax her down before sunset. Bindi was successfully reunited with her owners at around 9pm, when our fire fighters with help from Bindi's owner and some friends, managed to bring her down to safety. Crib Point Fire Brigade not only assists our community with firefighting duties, but we also assist our community through goodwill when we can.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan released a media statement through CFA on 22nd July reminding the community to pay attention in the kitchen. Unattended cooking was one of the most common causes of preventable house fires. Last year CFA responded to around 250 fires that started in the kitchen, which can cause extensive damage and high-level injuries. Our members at Crib Point Fire Brigade love our community and love our cooking. So we have attached a Vegetable soup recipe card for you to try out on these cold winter days, along with some fire safety cooking tips for in the kitchen.
Never leave your cooking unattended or get distracted whilst cooking.
Always supervise children in the kitchen.
If you have a loved one with dementia, put safety strategies in place to keep them safe in the kitchen.
Keep stovetop, ovens, range hoods and cooking area clean of dust, oil and grease buildup.
Keep tea towels, paper towels and other flammable items away from the stovetop.
Always ensure you have working smoke alarms.
Further information can be found on the CFA website.
We would love to hear if you have any other kitchen cooking or safety tips in our comments.
Happy cooking!

For community awareness
**Update** As of 9am Saturday 20 July, automatic alarms are now restored. This issue will continue to be monitored.
The Victorian community should continue to call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
There is no impact to Triple Zero call-taking and dispatch of services.
---
Due to worldwide technical outages, Victorian fire services have become aware that some residential and business buildings that have monitored fire alarms may not automatically call the fire brigade.
Whilst this issue is being investigated by the alarm companies, we ask Victorians to call 000 if your building fire alarm is activated, or if you see flames or smoke.
For more information contact your building manager or managing agent.

Being mid July and right in the middle of winter,
we would like to share some important information on the use of Wheat bags.
Wheat bags are often heated up and used by many to ease aches, pains or keep warm in bed, but they can also lead to burns or ignite when used improperly.
π₯Donβt overheat the wheatbag by placing it in the microwave for extended times.
π₯Donβt leave the wheatbag unsupervised in the microwave, it can ignite if overheated.
π₯Donβt let anyone, particularly children or the elderly sleep with a wheat bag.
π₯Donβt use the wheat bag to warm your bed up, as it may spontaneously ignite.
π₯Donβt reheat the wheatbag before it has properly cooled.
π₯A wheatbag should be cooled down on a non-combustible surface before storing.
Information Source: NSW Fire and Rescue
On the Mornington Peninsula 12% of homeless residents sleep rough every night, with the Mornington Peninsula, being the the fourth worst Local Government Area in Victoria for homelessness. Many people who sleep rough, often take shelter where they can find it and will light fires for warmth and cooking. Without proper resources to extinguish these fires, sometimes a fire can become a danger to both the person sleeping rough, surrounding properties and bushland. Today the Crib Point Fire brigade attended a fire in some old cars, that have been used as shelter and were left unattended to burn. If you are out and about and see a fire left unattended to burn in this type of situation, call 000 for emergency services to attend and make the fire safe.
