I’ve walked the circumference of the earth—here’s what it taught me about creativity in quarantine 22/08/2020

During these times of confinement a simple daily walk, whatever the mood or the weather, may not only heighten our sense of awareness of our surroundings, but as Libby DeLana writes in this article “it’s a conscious decision to get outside every day...to seek inspiration, to create space for ideas, to find comfort and to nourish friendship and community...” We hope you’re able to enjoy some time outside even on this rainy grey Sunday in Melbourne 🌧🌿🍃🌼🌨🌿🍃🌼

I’ve walked the circumference of the earth—here’s what it taught me about creativity in quarantine Especially now, when we don’t know how long we will be sheltering in place, a walk can provide a way to tap creativity that gets trapped in confusion and quarantine.

A good reminder - emotions come and go. Adding ‘for now’ is really helpful eg ‘I’m sad...for now’. As is adding the word ‘feeling’ which can give a bit of space between you and the emotion eg ‘I’m feeling angry...for now’. We are not our emotions - it’s something we are feeling in this moment of time

Berries provide so many nutrients, they’re delicious, look beautiful and can be mixed with lots of other fruits! They’re loaded with antioxidants such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid and resveratrol - which protect your cells. And they are really high in Vit C. A cup of strawberries has about 85mg Vit C compared to an orange which has about 51mg. Vitamin C together with zinc and Vitamin D help to support your immune system. Enjoy good amounts of fresh colourful fruits and vegetables every day 🍒🍇🍓🍎🥑🥕🍊🥝🥬🍊

What you need to know about Victoria's face mask rule 19/07/2020

A new week starts for us in Melbourne on Thursday. Many feelings probably coming up but let’s all support each other, support yourselves and mask up when going out.

Australians turning to ambient sounds to ease anxiety 18/07/2020

Ambient sounds can provide a sense of calm - especially those repetitive meditative nature sounds. The repetitiveness itself can help capture our attention and take the focus away from unhelpful anxious worrying thoughts - giving us the opportunity to be more in the present moment. Music of course always conveys a certain mood and can be so good at helping us shift out of a difficult mindset. Whether it’s classical or more modern & upbeat, music can be soothing, focussing or uplifting. If reading or listening to podcasts feel too taxing why not give yourself a different experience. This article includes quite a few links to try. Good for during the day or to help induce a more restful state before sleep

Australians turning to ambient sounds to ease anxiety "What we know is that music is really good at helping us shift from one state to another," says music psychologist Professor Sarah Wilson.

So true! It really is much easier to meditate when when we’re already relaxed and feeling settled within ourselves. Here are some helpful strategies to try - thanks to the Melbourne Meditation Centre - when encountering challenges meditating while feeling stressed and anxious. We are all unique and respond differently so it’s useful to try a variety of options and see what works best for you

You may have noticed that it's quite easy to meditate when you're already relaxed, but it's much, much harder even to remember to meditate in the heat of the moment (when you most need it).

Strategies for addressing this difficulty include:

1. Plan or schedule mini-meditations throughout your day and use them proactively as a preventative measure (rather than as a reaction to stress).

2. Meditate spontaneously, using stress itself as your 'trigger' or reminder to meditate.

3. Piggy-back your new habit (meditation), upon a reliable existing habit. e.g. Whenever you stop for a coffee or tea, turn this small break into a mini-meditation or mindfulness exercise.

Experiment with these options to find out what works best for you.

Such beautiful weather today in Melbourne ☀️ take some time to go for a walk if you can and enjoy the feeling of sunshine on your skin. Taking time out looks different for everyone and that’s okay - it’s about whatever works for you. Being quiet; laughing; resting; reading; sitting; doing puzzles; dreaming; looking at the sky & trees; cooking & enjoying the process of chopping, stirring, creating; watching a movie; listening to music; no tech, no screens; gardening; focus on breathing; meditating; napping.... 😊
