French Saloon
French Saloon Wine Bar and small plates Climb the narrow flight of stairs up from the red brick lane to enter the saloon.
A room that is at once spacious, open and rambling, one side lined by a wall of windows, the other a splendid bar of long fluted zinc; counterpoint to the perfectly proportioned, intimate beauty of its little brother downstairs. Spanning the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, French Saloon borrows from the decadence and familiarity of the Parisian bar & bistro, while finding common ground with the enjo
is a big name among South Australian winemakers and his wines are here to prove why! This 2023 'Sang de Pigeon' Pinot Noir is a bold, nuanced take on the classic grape. As you take a sip, you'll taste vibrant red berries, rhubarb pie, blackcurrant leaf as well as a subtle touch of woodfire smoke.

You just cannot go wrong! Now pouring at the French Saloon.
A couple of new by-the-glass additions in French Saloon!
Preparing for the week at French Saloon ~
This week ~ steamed grouper, saffron farfalle, spring vegetables!
Stock Wines 2013 ‘Perdu’ Riesling. 11 years in, and this wine is very much just coming into its own with notes of Persian lime peel, fleshy mandarin, jasmine stems, and dried fennel all of which are accompanied by that classic kerosene edge. One for the Riesling heads (aged or otherwise)!
Now by the glass at The French Saloon.
Rum Baba ~
House-made brioche, soaked in spiced rum syrup. Served with crème fraîche pâtissière, blood orange and mountain marigold.
The 2021 ‘Costal’ Cabernet Sauvignon. We’re manifesting some coast-appropriate weather with our latest by the glass addition.
~
While as a variety may not bring the beach to mind, its notes of bay leaf, Sicilian Olives, mulberry, crunchy acid line and gravelly tannins make it incredibly appropriate for a sunny day out on the terrace.
~
Now pouring at The French Saloon!
Grilled New Seasons artichokes, Emilia anchovies, baby kipfler, pickled shallot, rye tuile.

Our personal favourite for the next few days...
The section of the list, in our opinion, has never looked better. Here are some of our foremost picks of the bunch!
This Saturday, we're opening French Saloon for its first Saturday service of 2024!
Bookings are now open through our website or via the link in our bio.
Join us from 5pm for a drink on the terrace and then dinner in Le Saloon. Weekends just got a whole lot better!
New fish special ~ Blue speckled grouper, prawn, pastis and fennel
~
A special mention to and for consistently fresh and high-quality seafood!
Aziza’s Chardonnay. A lovely cuvée here from an Australian region less synonymous with Chardonnay, the Hunter Valley. Adding to the appeal and interest, this wine has been made by one of our favourite vintners, Christian Knott of Chandon de Briailles and Domaine Dandelion fame. Christian has created a very interesting offering from the region, epitomised by ripe yellow stone fruit and rich oak creating a wine best enjoyed while it's still quite brisk. Now pouring at The French Saloon.
Pancetta wrapped pork loin, purple cabbage, burnt witlof, mustard jus.
Tete de porc farci, barrel aged pickle, hot mustard, fennel grissini.
Available now for a limited time.
has officially turned 10 this year, and to commemorate our brothers and sisters downstairs - we're throwing a party with them. It's quite a family affair as you'll start in Kirk's Pub for drinks and snacks on arrival, then make your way up the stairs into French Salon for a nice long lunch - curated perfectly by our head chef, Luke Fraser and Bannockburn wines.

Our darling French Saloon has been back in action for one full year now, and we've been going stronger than ever! It seemed like only yesterday we were preparing for our first service back, but after another beautiful year filled with flowing wine, delicious food and boisterous events, we've been basking in all the love on Hardware Lane! You know where to find us, next to Kirk's Wine Bar, above the stairs.

Salut
A friendly reminder that our ‘Old World Chardonnay’ section consists of two pages, and houses these beautiful bottles from the Mâconnais on the second page!
Whole roasted yellow belly flounder with grapefruit grenobloise
It’s (finally) Cabernet season! Here are a couple Winter warmers currently available on the list, from the world round.
Le Saloon ~ on our specials menu tonight.
Noisette of Victorian lamb, Jerusalem artichoke with salsify
Hapuka, smoked parsnip, roasted Brussel sprouts and crispy chicken skin
Bonne Pomme ~ Christian Dourin Eau de Vie de Cidre, Lillet Blanc, Cardamom, Cinnamon & Bay leaf spiced Demerara syrup with apple juice. Garnished with an apple fan and bay lead powder.
The winter solstice is truly upon us, with today being the shortest day of the year - many say this marks the true beginning of winter! We're hunkering up with a new menu addition in the form of raw scallops, lemonade fruit, green pepper, lardo and sorrel.
Clock off now and join us at Le Saloon. We have an extensive wine list to keep the drinks flowing while our winters specials are sure to warm you up.
Tues - Fri, 12:00pm - 11:00pm. Walk ins welcome.
The Earth’s End Pinot Noir. A beautiful, organically grown, expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir from the Mount Edward team here. A smattering of raspberries, red plum skin and blueberry pie, accompanied by a generous lick of cedar spice and Madagascar vanilla. All in all, just incredibly plush and pretty. Now by the glass at The French Saloon.
The Scintilla x Other Right Eau d’Amis #7. With its notes of fig, dark plum and golden syrup, it’s basically a baby Macvin from home shores! Now pouring at The French Saloon
Gamay et Ses Amis
We are very excited to have the entry (and we say entry very tentatively), cuvée from Cornas superstar Franck Balthazar – his sublime 2021 Côtes du Rhône. It's not often we get to see the remarkable Grenache that the Northern Rhône can produce, particularly when in the right hands. Here you’ll find notes of dark cherry, wild herbs, damp earth, dried violets and aniseed, all underpinned by a fresh, red-fruited acid line and granite-born minerality. Now by the glass at The French Saloon.
Contrary to its name, Jerusalem Artichoke is a Native American discovery that was introduced to French explorer, Samuel de Champlain in 1605. This new sunroot vegetable reminded him of artichoke, which he sent back to France to much acclaim.
~
Jerusalem artichokes, tête de moine, pine nut crème.
Mackerel tartare, pickled cucumber, dill and horseradish ~
Here at The French Saloon, we’re partial to a Chenin Blanc; so much so that we’ve recently decided to give our bottles their own section! In a broader showing of admiration for the lovely and versatile grape, we’ve decided to present one of our favourites by the glass, Loïc Mahé’s 'Sables & Schistes' Chenin from Savennières.
~
This cuvée, in our opinion, perfectly embodies top-notch Chenin from the 2021 vintage in the Loire, with its notes of beeswax, white chalk, yellow pears, white peach skin, searing minerality and a touch of hazelnut. Pure and polished, watch this one unfurl in the glass!
