Shades of pink and soft neutral tones bring together a sewing/textiles inspired cake for a special celebration this weekend. A sewing tape measure wraps itself around the base of the cake, whilst two sewing mannequins dress the top, further accessorised by spools of thread, a scattering of buttons and various sewing accoutrements. Made by hand using fondant and gum paste.
Had the pleasure of creating a special cake to celebrate an 18th, that incorporated the young gent’s favourite interests: surfing, fishing and skiing. Air brushed water theme wraps around the cake and biscuit crumb “sand”, covers the board. Ocean waves and water splashes made from a combination of sculptured white chocolate and rice paper sails. Floral wire manipulated to create number “18, covered with gum paste and painted to reflect ocean theme. Surfboard, rider, fish and fishing rod sculpted by hand. As always…..all edible ( except for the wire on the fishing rod). A very happy birthday to Will.
Celebrating a birthday for a Collingwood fan, topped off with a "win" on the weekend. Collingwood logo and 79 sculpted from fondant.
The simple elegance of a semi naked dressed with velvet red roses and edible gold leaf dappled on corokia sprigs.
A watering can cake to celebrate a 50th for a gardening enthusiast. White chocolate mud cake with raspberry buttercream, stacked and carved and hand painted to achieve a rustic look. Fondant trowel with cookie crumb soil. Woodgrain effect board. Dressed with fresh blooms. Wishing Lucy a very happy birthday.

Fondant figurine sitting in a gold rimmed champagne glass. Congratulations to Mardi.
A wonderful weekend, shared with gorgeous friends, celebrating a very special birthday. Lashings of salted caramel sauce and buttercream, fill this white chocolate beauty, dressed with fresh proteas and leucadendron, harvested from the birthday gal’s family farm. Honored to have been asked to share the cutting of the cake with the guest of honour. Happy birthday beautiful Jane. X
Five layers of my favourite white chocolate mud cake, stacked and filled with home made salted caramel whipped through vanilla bean buttercream. Scraped back and adorned with fresh blooms to create a simple but elegant semi naked beauty…..inside and out. Happy Birthday Skye. X
A Le Creuset Classic round casserole pot in shell pink, to celebrate a young cooking enthusiast’s 21st. White chocolate mud cake carved and air brushed in ombré pink, accompanied with fondant spatula and napkin. Happy 21st Lucy.
Back to where it all began……making cupcakes for friends and the best Mothers' Group ever. These were a special request for someone I’ve known since she was born and just celebrated her 22nd birthday. Happy Birthday Charlotte. x
Soft pink and grey tones came together to create this beautiful piece which showcased a ribbed textured aesthetic complemented by hand made sugar peony and roses. A special treat for a dear friend.
What is the saying about everything comes in threes? Three cakes for three gorgeous people, filled every minute of the past week. Tones of pink and taupe provided a delicate background for fresh florals, hand carved script and the birthday girl’s two pet labradors. Wishing Violet a very happy 22nd birthday.
A semi naked cake with fresh florals never fails when you have just devoted a marathon effort to conquer the build of an edible typewriter, and are left with just hours to make sure your daughter has a cake to cut on her 21st. Happy Birthday Sophie. X
I had the pleasure of making another cake for my dear girlfriend, for the occasion of her son’s birthday this weekend. The idea was to capture her son’s antique typewriter. I knew it would be a challenge, but I totally underestimated just how big a challenge. Always learning……and as always, everything is edible. Layers of cake fill out the body. Rice crispies provide structure to the front frame. Stacked mini Oreos form the basis of the carriage and each key is made from fondant and suspended in place over the hollow cavity. The last photo places the cake beside the original typewriter.
The best reward ever is to see the reaction, and in this case, the wave of emotion, come over someone who has given you creative licence to create something special, and has just seen what you have created for the first time. This cake was to celebrate a mum’s 80th and the request was to create something that brings together some of the things she loves, including her Arabia Ruska coffee mug which she has used every day for decades, her favourite Jane Austen novels, her favourite rose – the Joseph’s Coat, her passion for travel, and her love for reading and puzzles. The final design detoured from the preliminary concept, because what I had planned to create on the reverse of the cake, evolved into something that I felt had to be front and centre. The scene on the front of the bottom tier replicates a Ravensburger puzzle (The Greatest Ever Book Shop in the World) which was gifted to the mum and symbolises her love of reading and puzzles. The world map on the reverse of the bottom tier showcases her love for travel. Seven of her favourite Jane Austen novels are built into the top tier of the cake and framed by a replica of her favourite Arabia Ruska coffee mug and beautiful Joseph’s Coat roses. Everything is made from fondant, 100% edible and coloured by hand, down to the pages of the novels, the tonal shades of the Joseph’s Coat rose petals, the dapple effect on the Arabia coffee mug, the tiny writing and Penguin logo on the book spines (all done with patience and a fine paintbrush with edible paint) and every brick on the wall and book on the shelves.
Vintage record player cake for a dear friend to celebrate her husband’s birthday. Player made from four thin layers of cake sandwiched with buttercream. Turntable made from home made chewy chocolate chip cookie, covered with ganache, fondant and sculpted. Record made from fondant and labelled with the recipient’s initials. Moveable tone arm made from fondant so it could be placed to run along the grooves of the record. Woodgrain finish and all other details by hand.
Celebrating a milestone birthday with an edible replica of a Grenadier 4 x 4. White chocolate mud cake carved and sculpted. All accessories and details made from fondant. Big thanks to Brendan for his help making the shaped base board which allowed me to support and elevate the cake. And a very happy birthday to Lachy.
A customised cake to celebrate a milestone birthday. Cake inspired by Anna’s love for walking her dog - a divine Newfoundland, along the beach and especially past the Portsea Pier and beach boxes. All cake theming hand sculpted from fondant and cake board decorated with textured royal icing and biscuit crumbs. Happy Birthday Anna.
Celebrating an “apres” themed 21st, with a Winter inspired cake, featuring snowy mountain scape, snow gums, Hoff Hut, double black diamond run, skis and directional signpost highlighting all the slopes the birthday girl has tackled. Happy 21st Millie!
A gorgeous photo of a grandpa and grandson sharing time on the golf course, was the inspiration behind this creation to celebrate a 21st. Multiple tonal shades of green build a textured golf landscape that wrap around both tiers of dense chocolate cake. Buggy a replica from the photo and constructed from fondant, down to the pedals, drink holder and two Titleist golf bags with clubs, in the back. Grandpa (replica from photo) and grandson both sculpted from fondant. It was an absolute pleasure to make something so special and meaningful for this gorgeous family. Happy 21st Henry.
Royal Melbourne Golf Club is the inspiration behind this golf themed cake to celebrate a 21st. Clubhouse and fairways wrap around layers of decadent chocolate cake. All theming sculpted from fondant.
Celebrating the coming of age for a set of twins with a nostalgic reflection to childhood memories. A favourite bedtime story featuring a sleeping dragon in a gold nest was the inspiration behind this cake which subsequently drove the woodland theme. All figurines hand sculpted from fondant. Cake covered in chocolate shards painted with chocolate to resemble bark. Various shades of edible moss add a burst of colour. Delicate nest made from string pastry and painted gold. Meringue mushrooms.
Celebrating the coming of age for a set of twins with a nostalgic reflection to childhood memories. Hello Kitty and ombré pink were the inspiration behind this cake featuring Hello Kitty and My Melody, playing on a swing draped in cherry blossom florals. Sculpted from fondant and gum paste.
It is always a pleasure to make something special for someone special who has the utmost respect for your craftsmanship and creative licence. This cake was a surprise and was conceptualised by bringing together elements that speak to the recipient’s character and likes. The main feature is a “wooden” wine box encasing a special bottle of wine. The lid of the box sits off centre to reveal the wine inside but also stage a “book” and grand winged armchair with a well-suited fox presiding over all with his golf club. As always, everything you see is 100% edible and made from a deliciously rich chocolate cake and/or hand made and sculpted from fondant.
A sweet surprise for my gorgeous girlfriend who celebrated her birthday on the weekend. Muted tones of taupe and blush highlight hand made peony, sugar roses and sweet peas.
