As students start back over the coming days, we want to give you some tips as parents that might set the foundations for a great academic year. I don't know about you, but our household routine could be better. I don't think the 10pm bedtimes and 10am wake-ups will cut it.

1. Establish a routine and stick to it. This includes a regular sleep schedule, set times for meals, and a consistent study routine.

2. Create a designated study space for your child that is free from distractions and has all the necessary supplies.

3. Ensure clear expectations and goals for the academic year in partnership with your child and celebrate their achievements along the way.

4. Encourage your child to take breaks and engage in physical activity or hobbies to reduce stress and maintain a healthy balance.

By following these tips, you can help your child to have a successful and enjoyable academic year.

Kip McGrath is a leading provider of personalised learning solutions for children of all ages.

Specialising in providing individualised lesson plans tailored to children’s unique learning needs. However, Kip McGrath never does one-on-one tutoring. Why is that? What's the research behind it?

Research has shown that one-on-one tutoring can be effective, but it can also create dependence on the tutor. Children may become too reliant on their tutor, so they may not develop the problem-solving skills and independence needed to succeed in the long term. Kip McGrath wants children to take the skills they have learnt and apply them in the classroom.

Kip McGrath ensures that all children have individualised lesson plans to work at their own pace and receive the personalised attention they need to learn or practice a new skill while being encouraged to develop their independent learning strategies. This approach helps students take ownership of their learning, build confidence, and develop problem-solving skills.

One of the main benefits of individualised lesson plans that are key to Kip McGrath's success is allowing students to work at their own pace. Each child learns differently and at a different pace. An individualised lesson plan considers this, allowing each child to work at their own pace without feeling left behind or held back—building learning confidence in a safe and supported environment.

Children gain confidence in their abilities when given challenging but achievable tasks. This confidence will then spill over into other areas of their lives, helping them succeed.

Individualised lesson plans and attention help to develop problem-solving skills. When children are given tasks that require them to think critically and solve problems, they develop these skills naturally. This helps to prepare them for the challenges they will face in the future, both academically and in their personal lives.

Kip McGrath's approach of providing a safe and supportive learning space with individualised lesson plans has been effective in helping children succeed for over 45 years. Allowing children to work at their own pace, building their confidence, and developing their problem-solving skills, together in partnerships with parents and schools, Kip McGrath is helping children reach their full potential.

Interpreting school results can be a daunting task for parents. While some parents might see good grades as a sign of success, others might be more concerned with the emotional and social development of their children. Regardless of the approach, it is important for parents to understand their child's school results and the significance of any learning gaps, or if there are issues with learning confidence, intervening early can be the difference.

Firstly, it is important for parents to understand that school results are not the only measure of their child's success. While good grades are certainly a positive sign, they are not necessarily a guarantee of future success. It is equally important to consider a child's emotional and social development and their confidence to try new tasks, as these factors can have a significant impact on their long-term success.

That being said, school results do provide valuable information about a child's academic progress. For example, if a child consistently struggles in a particular subject, it may be an indication that they need extra support. This is where early intervention can be extremely beneficial.

Recognising the signs is an important part of this process. These signs may include consistently poor grades, difficulty completing homework, or a lack of confidence in their academic abilities. If a child is showing these signs, it is important to address the issue as soon as possible, in order to prevent them from falling further behind.

Tutoring provides students with specialist support that can help them to better understand difficult concepts and catch up with their peers. It can also help students build confidence and develop a love of learning, which can have a positive impact on their future academic success.

When selecting a tutoring service, it is important to choose an organisation who are experienced in working with children to fill the gaps in learning and that has a proven track record of success. It is also important to choose a system where there are several teaching styles that is compatible with your child's learning style. System-based learning is helpful to the psychology of memory retention.

Early intervention can be extremely beneficial for children who are struggling academically and can help set them on a path to future success. Getting support early can make a significant difference in a child's academic success and overall well-being. This can ultimately lead to better grades, improved confidence, and a love of learning that can last a lifetime.

Beyond Grades: How Behaviour Communicates a Message in School and How Tutoring Can Help

As parents, we all want our children to succeed in school and achieve their full potential. However, it's not just academic performance that matters. In fact, a child's behaviour can communicate a lot about their experience in school and their overall well-being.

Behavior is a form of communication, and it can indicate a variety of things such as frustration, boredom, anxiety, or even a lack of confidence. Parents play a crucial role in supporting their children's academic and social-emotional growth by paying close attention to their behaviour and providing the necessary support.

One way parents can support their children is by investigating supports that can help their children understand the causes of their feelings and, in turn, behaviour.

Tutoring can help children who may be struggling academically, improving their grades and overall confidence. Kip McGrath works to build strong relationships and foundations that can help children excel academically, by providing a challenge and helping them reach their full potential.

When selecting a service for your child, it's important to choose someone who is experienced, knowledgeable, and able to connect with your child.

Research has demonstrated that strong support can lead to improved well-being outcomes for children. By addressing both academic and social-emotional needs, tutoring can provide children with the necessary tools to thrive in school and beyond. With the right support, children can build confidence, improve their grades, and develop important life skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking.

Reading is a crucial skill that lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning. As parents, we are responsible for encouraging our children to read and providing them with the tools they need to succeed. This blog will share tips on promoting reading at home and why tutoring could be a supportive tool for your child's reading journey.

1. Make reading a daily habit

Make reading a part of your child's daily routine. Even if it's just for a few minutes, set aside a specific time each day for reading. This will help establish a reading habit and make it feel like a natural part of their day.

2. Create a reading-friendly environment

Make sure your child has access to a variety of age-appropriate books. You can create a cosy reading nook in your home, or simply designate a comfortable spot for reading. Encourage your child to explore different genres and topics to find what they enjoy most.

3. Read together

Reading together is a great way to bond with your child and model good reading habits. Take turns reading aloud, asking questions, and sharing your thoughts about the story. This will help your child develop their comprehension skills and make reading a fun and interactive experience.

4. Use tutoring as a supportive tool

Sometimes, children may struggle with reading despite our best efforts. In such cases, tutoring can be a supportive tool to help your child overcome any challenges they may face. A tutor can provide personalised attention and guidance, help your child build their reading skills, and boost their confidence.

In conclusion, promoting reading at home is crucial for your child's development. By creating a reading-friendly environment, establishing a daily reading routine, and using tutoring as a supportive tool, you can help your child become a confident and enthusiastic reader.

Identifying Learning Gaps: How to Help Your Child Succeed

As a parent, you want your child to succeed in their academic endeavours. However, it's not uncommon for students to struggle with certain subjects or concepts, leading to learning gaps that can hinder their progress. Identifying these gaps and taking action to address them is crucial for ensuring your child's success. Here are some tips for identifying learning gaps and helping your child succeed.

1. Understand Your Child's Learning Style

Every child learns differently, so it's important to understand your child's learning style. Some children are visual learners, while others learn better through listening or hands-on activities. Understanding your child's learning style can help you identify areas where they may be struggling and find ways to support their learning.

Find out your child's learning style: https://getgoally.com/blog/learning-style-quiz-for-kids/

2. Look for Warning Signs

There are several warning signs that your child may be struggling with a particular subject or concept. These can include a drop in grades, lack of interest in the subject, difficulty completing homework or assignments, or avoidance of the subject altogether. If you notice any of these warning signs, it's important to take action and identify the specific areas where your child is struggling.

3. Communicate with Your Child's Teacher

Your child's teacher can be a valuable resource for identifying learning gaps. Teachers can provide insight into your child's academic performance, areas of strength, and areas where they may be struggling. Schedule a meeting with your child's teacher to discuss your concerns and work together to identify areas where your child needs additional support.

4. Consider Tutoring

Tutoring can be an effective way to address learning gaps and support your child's academic success. A tutor can work with your child one-on-one to identify areas where they are struggling and provide personalised support and instruction. Tutoring can also help build your child's confidence and motivation, leading to improved academic performance.

5. Create a Supportive Learning Environment

Creating a supportive learning environment is crucial for helping your child succeed. This can include setting aside a designated study area, providing access to educational resources, and establishing a consistent study routine. Encourage your child to ask questions and seek help when needed, and provide positive feedback and encouragement for their efforts.

In conclusion, identifying learning gaps and taking action to address them is crucial for your child's academic success. By understanding your child's learning style, looking for warning signs, communicating with their teacher, considering tutoring, and creating a supportive learning environment, you can help your child overcome learning gaps and achieve their full potential.
