Sarah is one of the many champions whose voice helped get Enhertu listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. “None of this would have happened without BCNA’s help,” she says. “I was just one little person, trying to get my voice out. But they gave my voice power. That’s what changed things. When I was ready to quit, they empowered me to keep going. And they got this drug on the Access Scheme so much quicker.” Thank you, Sarah, for your courage and support. You’re our hero! #bncapinklady #thankyou #metastaticbreastcancer #livingwithmbc #mbcadvocacy

Exciting News for Breast Cancer Treatment We’re thrilled to announce that Lynparza (olaparib) has been listed on the PBS for HER-2 negative early breast cancer with a confirmed BRCA mutation. Last year, BCNA advocated strongly for Lynparza’s subsidy as an important treatment option to help reduce the risk of breast cancer coming back after treatment for people who are at especially high risk of recurrence. We’re proud to join Minister for Health & Aged Care Mark Butler and Pink Hope CEO Sarah Powell in welcoming this significant PBS listing that will remove the significant financial barrier in accessing this drug. BCNA remains committed to advocating for Lynparza’s subsidy for metastatic breast cancer patients. If you have questions about olaparib, we encourage you to reach out to your healthcare team for guidance. Stay informed and empowered. A letter from Krysty to Ed. In the lead up to Pink Lady Match, Zurich has helped strengthen the theme of the night 'More than a Name' by providing their logo space on the warm up tops worn by the Demons players to instead bear the name of an Australian affected by breast cancer. Thanks to Zurich, the names of 43 Australians affected by breast cancer will be displayed on the Dees' warm up tees, replacing the traditional Zurich logo. BCNA is thrilled to have partnered with Melbourne Football Club for twenty years and this year’s Pink Lady Match will be a spectacular and moving night of support. One voice can go unheard but we are louder, together. In August 2022 Sarah was told that she had metastatic breast cancer. The treatment that would provide Sarah the best chance at prolonging her life would cost $12,300 every three weeks. Between her superannuation and life insurance, Sarah only had enough money to fund it for 18 months. Across Australia, families like Sarah’s are being forced to make an impossible decision: continue a vital treatment that’s giving people living with metastatic breast cancer quality of life and more time despite crippling financial strain, or stop because they can no longer afford it. 'No matter who you are, where you live, what your situation is, you should be able to access the very latest in breast cancer treatment and care' - BCNA CEO, Kirsten Pilatti Click to donate today and ensure BCNA is able to continue advocating for people like Sarah. https://ow.ly/5l4650RWfYO #QualityOfLife #MedicalCosts #MetastaticBreastCancer #BreastCancerAwareness #CancerTreatment #HealthcareAdvocacy #BCNAtaxappeal

Yarning about Cancer. #NationalReconciliationWeek Responding to the unmet needs of First Peoples with cancer was the focus of the third day of BCNA’s annual consumer Think Tank in late March. Aboriginal woman from Townsville and BCNA board member Jacinta Elston and proud Yorta Yorta Elder Aunty Pam hosted a storytelling session on addressing cancer inequity in Indigenous communities. During National Reconciliation Week, BCNA reaffirms its commitment to improving outcomes for First Peoples affected by breast cancer. This is a key priority in Australia’s first national cancer plan, launched last year. "The biggest issue that we now have is that cancer has become the leading cause of death for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people," Jacinta said. "It's taken over the other chronic diseases that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been struggling with."
