We've got a busy December 2023 with lots of exciting things happening!!!!! 🎅

What a lovely way to immerse ourselves into the Aboriginal culture by singing and dancing along to the sound of the Didgeridoo and Clapping sticks. Thank you Didgeridoo Australia for visiting us! ☺️

Yesterday was National Fairybread Day! Our Kindergarteners made their own butter and learnt all about the science behind it. Some even took this further by using coloured rice, pretending to make a sprinkles cake. The Nursery children did a sprinkles pasting experience.

Building Community Connections! We had Miss Bronwyn from Glen Waverly Library visit us for story time in the Toddler and Kindergarten Rooms. 📚

Happy Diwali everyone!!! 🎉
Diwali is an Indian festival, which is also known as the festival of lights. Indians celebrate Diwali by lighting fireworks, dressing up in cultural clothes, exchanging presents and decorating their houses with lots of lights.
The children have participated in several cultural experiences such as dancing to Bollywood songs, getting henna designs made on their palms and eating Indian food for lunch and afternoon tea.

We had the wonderful Jason Dale from Heat Kids visit us yesterday to teach our children about fire safety. The children participated in several real-life experiences. 🔥

Platypus Junction Mulgrave has been recognised in KindiCare’s Excellence Awards for 2023! Our Centre has been recognised as outstanding based on community feedback, reviews and rating from families!! 🥳

We have received a special letter from the North Pole, it is from a nameless Elf! Our children have come to a consensus and have decided to name him SpongeBob!

Happy Grandparents Day to all the grandparents and special persons in the lives of our beautiful children. At Platypus Junction, we all socialized over some afternoon tea and also planted some herbs, vegetables and flowers for our future generations!!!! 🥰

Today is Daniel Morcombe Foundation Day for Daniel – Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day, honouring and remembering Daniel Morcombe.
We have raised money to donate towards this initiative as well as incorporated children's safety as a topic into our educational program.

Today is World Pasta Day and Chef Karan has been busy preparing some pesto pasta for the children. The kindergarteners also assisted with the pesto making process. 🍝

The sun is out and the children have been engaging in some enriching experiences set up by our wonderful educators! ☀️

Here at Platypus Junction Mulgrave, we take nutrition very seriously...even for our families! We offered Wellness Shots to our families this morning to give them a bit of a pick-me-up! ⚡

To include sustainability in our educational program, we had Miss Tiffany from Monash Council visit our Kindergarten rooms educating children about Worm Farming and Composting. She brought in live worms that the children got to touch and learnt about what worms can eat and what they cannot. The children were also very excited to learn several facts about worms!

The children in K3 have been exploring the world around them through observing the change in the seasons. This has lead to a fascination in insects. Finding them in our beautiful garden and creating them with playdough have been very popular over the last week. 🌿🐛🐞🦋🪲🔎

This week Platypus Junction Mulgrave is celebrating Book Week and our love for literacy. Educators and children have been dressing up as favourite book characters, exploring texts in different languages, making puppets to support favourite stories and engaging in small world dramatic play along with reading our favourite books.

Kinder 4 had an incursion today with some Police Officers from Oakleigh Police Station. The Police Officers discussed with the children the role they play in the community, the equipment they use and what it is for, what phone number to call in an emergency and the most exciting part - when they said goodbye to the centre they put on their lights and sirens.

Our K3 classroom have created a Volcano this week as part of an investigation that began with an interest in Dinosaurs. The children collaborated and came up with the concept of a ‘Rainbow Volcano’ that they used Paper Mache to build. This process was done across the week so all children were given the opportunity to contribute and build/extend on their learning. 🌋

Today we dressed in denim and created our own jeans at PJ Mulgrave in support of Jeans for Genes Day. Here are a few photos from our toddler 2 room 🤗

Last week at Platypus Junction Mulgrave we are beginning to prompt conversations about National Reconciliation week with children and families as this begins on Friday. Below is our current set up in the reception area that is intended to start these conversations, before developing and evolving in each individual classroom based on the children and each current program.

As a centre we will also be collaborating on a National Reconciliation Week canvas artwork and exploring Bush Tucker through planting our own bush tucker plants and using them in cooking experiences, so keep an eye out for those photos next week.

the toddler two’s group who celebrated Harmony Week by looking at how we are all different. We looked at how our skin colour is different, we all have hair in our room but they are all different colours and our eyes too. We may be different on the outside but looked at how we can all be the same on the inside. We all have a heart that shares love and
kindness to everyone around us. We looked at our cultural background and painted our feet with the colours of our flag 🧡
