Monash Motorsport
Formula SAE/Student team from Melbourne, Australia
We compete in the Formula SAE competition which sees students design, build, test and race their latest creation against over 1000+ teams worldwide.
Hi-Tech Metrology has been a long-time partner of Monash Motorsport. In this video, we get a peek into the behind-the-scenes of how they use 3D scanning technology for our monocoque!
We would like to thank Hi-Tech Metrology for their continued support for our team.
We recently had the pleasure of attending an action-packed Khanacross event hosted by Gippsland Car Club, where we had our own team members competing with one another in a series of time trials.
At the Bryant Park Hillclimb, multiple time trial setups were created, with some entailing winding courses through the carpark and others being treacherous downhill adventures through the main track. All the courses were exhilarating, and provided our team members with a great change of pace - by having us all be in the driver’s seat! This event was the first official motorsport event for multiple of our team’s attendees, making the experience even more special as many got to experience racing first hand. We are also extremely proud to say that a third of our drivers were women, reflecting our unwavering commitment to creating more opportunities for women in the world of motorsport.
Additionally, we also restored our multi-competition winning car, M18-C. Its restoration was an interesting taste of the team’s combustion era for all who worked on it, making its demonstrations in the Khanacross even more exciting!
We sincerely thank Gippsland Car Club for the amazing time we had and fervently look forward to more collaborations and fun events!
Join us to celebrate Monash Motorsport’s incredible journey across Europe! From Netherlands to Austria, Hungary and Germany, we reflect on our achievements throughout all four competitions, making our mark in both electric and driverless categories.
The event will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel from 6 pm on November 28th. Stay tuned for more updates!
We are excited to share a recap of our recent Motorsport Australia Event, held in collaboration with Motorsport Australia. Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of hosting the MA Event with Motorsport Australia. We welcomed over 200 parents and students to our Clayton campus and spent the day rotating between various activities.
The range of activities included a workshop with MMS' powertrain development partner - PEARL (our Power Engineering Advanced Research Laboratory at Monash University). The workshop on motor control using power electronics was adapted from a coursework unit, allowing participants to experience engineering at Monash. Students also competed in high intensity racing with robotic mini Formula Student cars, built by some of our talented team members.
We also held an event that reflected an accurate cost cap challenge, testing students and their ability to budget in a real life scenario. Another activity involved students taking part in a racing simulation, where they were able to use equipment generously provided by Motorsport Australia. Lastly, there was a remote controlled car event, where students had the opportunity to compete against each other in teams to try and win on the racecourse.
The day concluded with speakers Chantel Collins from Motorsport Australia, as well as Luke Kerr from Real Time Learning. Monash Motorsport expresses our gratitude towards Motorsport Australia for their support and encouragement throughout the years, and we look forward to our next Motorsport Australia event!
Thank you to Monash Alumni for sharing our story, and Monash University for supporting our team. We couldn't have made it to Europe without the staff, funding and world-class facilities provided by our University.
Thanks to the support of our philanthropic partners, Monash Motorsport were able to travel to Europe to compete in their 2024 European Campaign.
The campaign provided them with an invaluable opportunity to build friendships and professional networks, and develop their skills on a global stage. Following a six year hiatus, Monash Motorsport returned to Europe in their newest car, M24. They competed in the Netherlands, Austria, Hungary and Germany, and also in the very first driverless competition in Monash Motorsport’s history.
A note from the team "This campaign is a significant, expansive and challenging endeavour made possible by the generous support of our donors, sponsors, family and friends, alumni, and of course our University."

FS East and FS Germany are now completed, bringing our 2024 European Campaign to an end. We are excited to share a recap from these two competitions, which brought podiums across all three statics disciplines, and formed the very first driverless competitions in Monash Motorsport’s history. Thank you to Elbflorace e.V. TU Dresden and High Speed Karlsruhe for helping film some of M24’s dynamic events!

Our car is now on its way back home in a shipping container, scheduled to arrive just before the December FSAE-Australasia competition.
Monash Motorsport would like to thank our generous sponsor, Valvoline, for providing us with their high quality brake fluid and gearbox oil, both of which were instrumental to the success of the team throughout our European campaign.
Valvoline’s brake fluid is critical to the function of our vehicle’s braking system. It allows us to effectively transfer hydraulic pressure from the force applied at the pedals to a braking force in the brake calipers. Their brake fluid’s ability to consistently withstand high temperatures experienced by our braking system greatly aids our team in maintaining a strong performance on track.
We use the gearbox oil to lubricate M24’s custom planetary gearboxes and effectively dissipate generated heat, greatly prolonging and maintaining the life of the gears inside. Valvoline’s oil provides flawless protection to our vehicle’s high torque gearboxes through all manners of intense acceleration and rapid braking required during testing and competitions. Thus, our team can be confident and reassured that our systems are running smoothly and efficiently.

We want to extend our gratitude to Foxglove for providing us with their observability platform, which significantly enhances our ability to explore, analyze, and collaborate on our driverless system's data.
Foxglove offers both on-demand and real-time data visualization, ensuring continuous monitoring and optimization. Additionally, their generous provision of 1TB of dedicated cloud storage allows us to securely store, annotate, and stream our data.

In the Formula Student Germany awards ceremony, we were delighted to place 3rd in the Business Plan Presentation Event! By securing 1st in Cost & Manufacturing at FSG and 2nd in Engineering Design at FSEast, the team has been able to achieve a podium in all three Static Events throughout our European competitions.
Our Alumni James Edwards has been doing some incredible work overseas. Congratulations on the amazing results!
Congrats to our VERSA engineer James Edwards assisting Hugh Barter in the F4 Indian Championship! Hugh dominating!
Last week, we were invited to watch Formula Student Germany Endurance Event by Team Swinburne. We had a fantastic time connecting with them, filled with adrenaline rush as we watched M24 compete. Team Swinburne also gave us an insightful tour of their workshop. Thank you to Team Swinburne, RMIT Motorsport and Melbourne University Racing for an amazing evening!
Our team was very excited to achieve 1st place in Cost & Manufacturing Event at Formula Student Germany! From 17th place at FS Netherlands, our team has taken on feedback at each of our competitions, updating and practising our presentation, bringing us to the podium at the final and most challenging competition of our campaign.
We are looking forward to bringing our knowledge and experience to FSAE-Australasia at the end of the year.
After days of hard work and dedication, we tried our very best to push the boundaries at Formula Student Germany! We're proud of what we have accomplished and the learning experiences we've obtained as a team. The team is ready to leave Germany with bags full of lessons, experience and incredible memories from the campaign.
Here are the results of the terrific 7 days of FS Germany!
The final event of our European Campaign is over - Endurance at Formula Student Germany. Our team unfortunately was unable to finish the event, after completing 14 out of 18 laps. With some amazing statics results and successes in all other MV + DV dynamic events in this competition, our result in this event wasn't what we hoped.
We are proud of how far we have come and how much we have learned throughout our 2024 European Campaign. We have so many more journeys to travel as a team, and we want to keep showing the world what we can achieve.
Our team will now focus on packing a shipping container bound for home, and returning to our lives in the MMS workshop in Melbourne. We are excited to bring back home our trophies, memories, and passion.
FSG Day 6: On the penultimate day of the competition, we completed the final DV event, Trackdrive. Consisting of 10 laps of the DV Autocross course, M24 was able to successfully navigate autonomously! Autocross was open after lunch, and we quickly completed 2 runs. Following analysis of the laps, we went out again and were able to make an improvement in lap time.

FSG Day 5: Dynamic events continued today with DV Acceleration in the morning, then Skidpad. After lunch, the car set a time of 3.89s in Acceleration and then moved to DV Autocross. We were pleased to put times on the board for 4/4 events today, making solid contributions towards both our EV competition points and Driverless Cup.
Our Cost team also participated in their first ever finals! They had just 10 minutes to prepare a presentation to judges on an unseen topic.
Formula Student Germany
FSG Day 4: After passing our final test today - EBS Test, our team has now passed all scrutineering at the last competition in our European Campaign! Our dynamic events have now begun, starting with a successful DV Skidpad.
Today also brought some exciting statics results for our team: finals in both Business Plan Presentation as well as Cost!
Take a look at some photos from the day, including our shared dinner with Formula Student Team Delft

Our Story
Monash Motorsport are a student-run, Formula SAE team from Monash University, Australia. We design, manufacture and race against over 600 teams worldwide.
From small beginnings in 2000, we’ve consistently set the standard at the Australasian competition, taking our 9th Australasian title in the last ten years. Our success in Australia has allowed us to compete at the biggest international events, at Silverstone, Uk, Redbullring, Austria, and the Hockenheimring, Germany, inspiring the team to push the limits of what they can achieve.
2018 was our biggest year yet, with podiums at FS UK, Austria and 6th places at FS Germany for M17-C and M17-E. We rounded off the year with an overall 1st and 2nd at FS Australasia for M18-C and M18-E respectively, and a 1st place finish at the inaugural FS Sydney early in 2019. This year, we hope to continue our success in Australia, manufacture our first Driverless Vehicle and continue to test and learn.
Here at Monash Motorsport, we are home to the next generation of world-class engineers, business professionals and innovative thinkers.
