It was fantastic to see Tommy and for Vince to present him with our ValeVino fund-raising check from our local Christmas promotion.

For those that don't know Tommy, he was a young stroke victim having a stroke aged 12. Now 28 and still physically impaired earlier last year he set out on an epic challenge cycling 9000km to the 4 most distant points in Australia. He's was doing this to raise awareness for young stroke victims & social inclusion and this would take him about a year to complete. ⁠

A few weeks before Christmas just over 3000kms into this he was literally smashed by a car breaking his pelvis, femur and multiple other bones. For the 2nd time in his life, he found himself in the hospital learning how to walk, again.⁠ With the help of the amazing Yarran Wines, we put together a special fundraising deal on two spectacular wines over Christmas. ⁠It was from this with your support we were able to raise $550 to donate towards Tommy and his epic 4 Points Challenge.

Something is going on in the ValeVino kitchen…

We got our hands on some 12 week aged beef, perfect eating and perfect to take the Seldom Inn Grenache out the fridge. A hot day a perfect combination paired with the beef Raghu pasta. This was delicious j all counts and cooked to perfection by .

The Grenache was the 2019 Royal Melbourne Gold Award Grenache and is big and fruity and just ripe to be chilled down on a hot day like today.

The pasta utterly delicious (something to do with being blanched in a homemade stock). The Grenache in its element as a bright ripe juicy and fruity summer smoothy.

The 2019 Royal Melbourne Wine Show Gold Award winner with a whopping 96pts this is a beautiful drop, and perfect for chilling down on these hot summer days.

The Grenache grape is relatively low in tannins and acid but is high in alcohol. It has a pronounced jammy red fruit character, floral notes and spices. A grape that makes plenty of rosés, it's favored for its fruitiness and texture. When chilled, you get all that fruit, but don't feel the burn.

Hi, we've had a few ask us who are ValeVino so we thought we'd share our story.

ValeVino was born out of Covid, literally, over a garden fence in Whiskey Hill between us neighbours Vince & Mark.

During lockdown unable to leave home we fashioned a small social space at our garden fence. We’d met, chat and sharing a drink put the world to rights.

Vince worked extensively in the wine trade (+25 yrs). With an envious cellar and relationships across most Australian winemakers during those lockdown months, many wines were presented for tasting. Mark on the other hand simply likes wine and looking to grow the community spirit we'd share with the neighbours.

It was with these connections and our enthusiasm to share to the wider Ascot Vale & surrounding area the ValeVino idea was born. The deals we offer are unique. We source these ourselves and represent excellent value for the quality and price.

The business model is really skinny. Though local, we’re only online and sell by the case to ensure the lowest possible price. We then reduce your costs further by including free local delivery i.e. we deliver it to you ourselves :)

As to the quality, this is hugely important. All wines we present for sale are always based on a quality only principle i.e. it doesn’t matter how cheaply we could sell the wine, if it doesn’t taste great, we won’t sell it! And if you are not happy then we’re not happy. It’s that simple.

When we started (not long ago) we decided we want to give back to the community. So we’ll donate 8% of profit (1 btl per case) back to local causes. To start we’ll be donating to Tommy Quick, our friend and neighbour and a real local Ascot Vale hero - www.the4points.org

Ulithorne as a producer is known for making small batch quantities of wine. Their red wines coming from selected parcels of grapes from its estate vineyard in McLaren Vale, planted in 1950 by Bob Whiting.
