While every child grows at their own pace, persistent or significant delays in multiple aspects of development might indicate a developmental delay. Here are 5 early signs that may indicate a potential developmental delay:
1. Motor Skills: Delays in motor skills can include difficulty with rolling over, sitting up, crawling, walking, or using fine motor skills like grasping objects or holding utensils.
2. Speech and Language: Lack of babbling, limited gestures (such as pointing or waving), delayed speech, difficulty understanding or following directions, or limited vocabulary for their age.
3. Cognitive Skills: Slow or limited problem-solving abilities, difficulty with memory, challenges in understanding concepts like colors, shapes, numbers, or letters.
4. Social and Emotional Development: Lack of interest in social interactions, minimal eye contact, difficulty engaging in back-and-forth communication, delayed or limited response to social cues.
5. Sensory Issues: Heightened or reduced sensitivity to sensory stimuli, such as being easily overwhelmed by loud noises or avoiding certain textures, tastes, or smells.
