"We know that an essential part of closing the gap in the su***de rate is addressing the imbalance of power and influence that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have in the decisions governments make about their communities. The Voice to Parliament will help make this change." - read full statement here: https://rosesintheocean.com.au/voice-to-parliament-statement-by-roses-in-the-ocean/
Kindness comes in many forms - listening is one of the most powerful đź’™
When we're included and respected on decision-making that impacts us, our mental health is better for it. That's what's at stake for First Nations Peoples at the upcoming referendum, and that's why we wholeheartedly support a Voice to Parliament.
Constant news coverage and debate on the Voice can be overwhelming. Regardless of how you’re planning to vote, we’re here to support you. Find a support option that’s right for you at beyondblue.org.au/get-support, or call 13YARN to talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Crisis Supporter.
A message from Su***de Prevention Australia’s CEO, Nieves Murray, on World Su***de Prevention Day.
Today, I’d like to acknowledge the suffering su***de brings when it touches our lives. We are brought together by lived and living experience and are unified by hope.
World Su***de Prevention Day is an important reminder to work together to prevent su***de, raise awareness and encourage conversations. It’s also a reminder that we can do this every day.
Whether it’s upskilling by participating in su***de prevention training, educating yourself on the impact of su***de on our local communities, or making time to check in with those around you to have a meaningful conversation – we can all make a difference.
Each year over 3,000 people die by su***de and around 65,000 attempt to take their life. Behind every number is a face, and a network of family, friends and colleagues that are impacted.
Fortunately, more people than ever are reaching out for support. We need to make sure that those in distress can receive timely access to quality care.
As the peak body for su***de prevention, we will continue to work closely with our members across the sector to improve the quality of services and programs, influence policy reform, and lead knowledge sharing.
Every life lost to su***de is a tragedy.
Let’s continue to work together to save lives and share messages of hope.

We all have a role to play in preventing su***de.
In Australia, su***de is a leading cause of maternal death during pregnancy and the first year after birth. We must stay connected and look out for those who are pregnant or new parents.
In the lead up to World Su***de Prevention Day, you can learn more about this by reading our member, PANDA's 'Perinatal su***de: signs, safety and support options' resource.

International Overdose Awareness Day
International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died from overdose, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.
The IOAD 2023 theme “Recognizing those people who go unseen” is about acknowledging people in our communities who are affected by overdose but might go unseen in the crisis.
