RSPCA Central West Supporter Group
The RSPCA NSW Central West Support Group is the backbone of our work in the Dubbo, Mudgee and Cobar
Run exclusively by volunteers, the support group plays a vital role in supporting local foster care programs, providing financial assistance for desexing, running vaccination and microchipping initiatives and fundraising for RSPCA NSW.
RSPCA NSW supports legislative intent of the new Puppy Farm Bill, but urges amendments for stronger breeding protections in NSW.
The Bill aims to strengthen the regulatory framework for dog breeding in NSW. It's stated intention is to regulate dog breeding, and the advertising of dogs for sale or other transfer and RSPCA NSW has always advocated for robust statutory protections for breeding animals in NSW.
The Bill, known as The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Puppy Farm) Bill 2024, was introduced to the NSW Parliament on Thursday, October 24, 2024, and is scheduled for further debate during the current Parliamentary sitting. If passed, it will take effect in three stages between November 2024 and December 2035.
While the move to regulate breeding is a positive step, this Bill falls short of properly and effectively promoting the welfare of dogs and cats and, in some areas, fails to protect cats altogether. Legislative protections must extend also to cats to address the welfare risks associated with intensive breeding practices.
RSPCA NSW urges the NSW Government and all parliamentarians to consider further amendments that will strengthen protections and address the welfare needs of these animals.

It’s been several months and we’re still on the lookout for an enthusiastic and passionate committee member to be actively involved in the Central West Supporter Group and step into the coordinator role.
If we can’t find someone to fill this position, we won’t be able to continue to operate and our subsidised desexing and emergency veterinary assistance programs will need to stop.
If you are interested or have a friend, family member, or neighbour that is looking to volunteer. Please let them know about this position so we can continue to support the Dubbo, Mudgee, Cobar regions, plus beyond.

Update on August's Desexing Program! 🐱🐶✂
Our first Discounted Desexing Program held last month was a huge success! 🎉 In partnership with Mid-Western Regional Council and RSPCA Central West Supporter Group, we were able to provide low-cost desexing to many cats and dogs in our local community!
It's well known desexing pets is good for their health. It can reduce the risk of serious health problems, reduce your dog barking, or your cat yowling at night time and desexing reduces the incentives to attempt to escape the yard.
Special thankyou to all the residents who took part in the program, it was an absolute pleasure to meet and treat your much loved pets 👏
Together we can make a difference! ☺️

Last financial year we spent over $7800 on assisting to desex animals in the Central West community. We’d love to keep this support going but to do so we need to have a full committee.

Responsible pet ownership means making choices that help you and your pet have a safe and happy life. Desexing is a very important part of this, and it is crucial to understand the role that desexing plays for the health, safety and protection of your companion.
Desexing not only helps to ensure fewer unwanted and homeless animals, but also research shows that desexed animals can actually live longer and healthier lives.
By desexing your pet, you're showing responsible pet ownership and making a compassionate choice for their future! So, make a positive difference in your pet's life and consider desexing!
Did you know that less than 10% of lost cats in NSW are reunited with their owners? The good news is old cats can learn new tricks! Cats are very adaptable. They don’t need to roam away from home to be content. You can provide everything they need at home. 🏡💕
If your cat has enjoyed roaming freely for many years, you can slowly increase their time at home over an extended period. The key is to make sure you are providing them with everything they need. This infographic introduces some steps you can take to a healthy feline environment, which you should consider when introducing your cat to the safe-at-home lifestyle.
