Your dedication and hard work have brought pride to our community.

Important to know!

A new law comes into effect from the 1st July
The Crimes Legislation Amendment (Coercive Control) Act 2022 (NSW) (the 'Act') makes coercive control illegal in New South Wales ('NSW'), with a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment.
The Act is the product of a shift in jurisprudence and social understanding of domestic violence.
The Act makes coercive control in current and former intimate partner relationships a criminal offence. The offence occurs when an adult engages in a 'course of conduct' of abusive behaviour that is intended to coerce or control the other person (the coercive control offence).
Controlling behaviours may include (some examples only):
Isolating you from your family or friends
Controlling what you eat, wear, or do
Controlling who you are allowed to see or spend time with
Preventing you from accessing support
Monitoring your behaviour (online or in person)
Tracking you, for example, using your phone or car
Controlling your finances, for example, through your ability to earn money or what you spend money on
Emotionally or physically threatening or intimidating you
Threatening to disclose information about you publicly
Humiliating or degrading you
Repeatedly putting you down
Making you feel fearful or scared of non-compliance

Refugee Week, it is a great opportunity to celebrate the contributions that refugees bring to our communities - Australia. It's also a time when all Australians are encouraged to educate themselves about the issues that affect refugees, as well as to listen to stories.

It provides and promotes harmony and togetherness, it unites individuals, communities, and organisations from many different backgrounds behind a common cause. It’s a reminder that, regardless of our differences, we all share a common humanity.

Newcastle has proudly been a Refugee welcoming zone and it provides supports and advocating for refugees settling in Australia.

Congratulations to Nasibullah on becoming player of the week with his incredible bowling figure of 5 wickets and made an essential 27 runs with the bat.

The Gardens- Cardiff Bolaroo cricket club presented our players the following awards for their achievements at the club level.

Super Stars of the Week!

Two players of the Senior Afghan Blue Tigers cricket team became the SUPER STARS of the week. well done champions. 🥰

The Round 4 continued to showcase thrilling matchups and some amazing cricket being played. Adverse weather conditions once again resulted in 6 matches being held at Johnston Reserve and 2 matches at Brandon Park, Seaham.

Once again, there was no shortage of exceptional individual and team performances. To begin with the bat, the batting sensation Muhammad Abaidullah Khan from Newcastle Qalandars, dazzled the spectators by smashing a quickfire 63 in just 21 balls, striking at 300. Another performance was from Ahmadullah Fazli who took the centre stage with an impressive 83 runs from 28 balls, showcasing a strike rate of 296.4, highlighted by 10 powerful sixes. An exceptional performance indeed. With the ball, Atif Ul Hassan from Badshah secured a 3-wicket haul in a single over, while Abdul Jamily from Afghan Blue Tigers delivered impressive figures of 4/2 in his 1.2 overs. Qammer Majeed of Punjab Warriors concluded with figures of 3 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs, displaying an impressive economy rate of 1.5. These outstanding performances are truly deserving of praise. Afghan Blue Tigers and Knights Watchmen once again demonstrated their superiority, securing a 124-run win and claiming victory by 10 wickets, respectively.

At the end of Round 4, Knights Watchmen are at the top of the ladder with a superior Net Run Rate, closely followed by 4 other teams

Afghan Blue Tigers showed tremendous maturity, accuracy and calmness in the bowling department restricting Zulfiqar XI to a total of 9/74 (20 overs).

Our openers, Hikmatullah Hedayatullah and Sameer Masoomkhil, made a blistering start to ensure they stayed ahead of the game and won the game by
10 wickets and 84 balls remaining.

What a Unique Multicultural Eid Party of 2024!

Afghan Association of Hunter held this huge and amazing festival at Foreshore Park on 13/04/2024.
This incredible festival was a unique, vibrant, and memorable which was showcasing the richness of our communities, cultural diversity as well as strengthen and building up the positive relationship and interaction among community members, this event brought a lot of community members, families, kids, and quests together to celebrate this occasion at joyful atmosphere in a great and peaceful environment where all attendees feel connected and enjoy it.

A lot of activities were there for kids, families, and attendees:

- Live Afghani Music
- Afghani cuisine and Kebab
- Fire Truck display for families and kids.
- Police van for display for families and kids
- Amazing Fairy Floss
- Face-painting and jewellery stall
- Jumping castles with slider for entertaining kids
- Community stalls serving Eid dried fruits/snacks to all attendees.

Afghan Association of Hunter would like to thank the management team, and volunteers and vendors for their incredible efforts and hard-working to facilitate and carried out this huge festival in a professional manner.

AAH also thanks all attendees and guests for their participations and support.

Out on camping 🏕️!

Afghan Association of Hunter arranged and facilitated camping and outing for community seniors and volunteers on 22/12/2023.
The weather was great and let us to undertake most activities as planned, all participants really enjoyed their time -( outing full of entertainment and fun activities with green Afghan tea, campfire with stories, yummy chops Kababs, omelets and lamb Karayee and much more).
It was great experiences for all, and learnt and explored more by visiting Warragamba Dam.

Thank you all community volunteers and partners who made the memorable community camping and outing happen. 🥰
