Improve your performance with Neurofeedback 13/07/2024

“The human brain is incredible - pathways have the ability to change and grow; we can essentially rewire our brains to function in ways that it wasn't able to perform before, such as developing the ability to pay attention and concentrate or to relax on command.”

Neurofeedback Therapy is an evidence-based intervention that utilises this amazing ability.

Learn more about it below!

Do you know what Cognitive Defusion is?

It involves noticing our thoughts without getting caught up in them, and letting our thoughts come and go without holding onto them.

This technique helps us become aware of the actual process of our thinking so that we can reflect objectively and problem-solve effectively before taking any action. You can practice cognitive defusion in a number of ways and this is just one example of how we can look at and respond to our thoughts differently.

Sometimes, it can feel like life holds endless setbacks and challenges; like reality is continually slapping you in the face and causing pain that you aren't equipped to handle.

This 'reality slap' can take many forms, from the death of a loved one to the loss of a job, loneliness to rejection. And whatever form it takes, it hurts!

With constructive methods based on real-world research, this book by Russ Harris could help you to rebuild your life and thrive after serious setbacks.

Weathering mental health struggles associated with the cost-of-living crisis 11/03/2024

“The current cost-of-living crisis not only threatens to impact our wallets, but if not managed well, also has the capacity to harm our mental health, physical wellbeing, and ultimately, our ability to maintain functional and well-balanced relationships and family units,” writes Rosewood Psychologist Gerard Ogle.

Weathering mental health struggles associated with the cost-of-living crisis It feels as though the topic on most people’s lips in my community today is far from our typical discussions around recent holidays or even the excitement of kids going back to school after their summer break.

When things feel chaotic, our Social Worker Amy Barnes suggests using a quick visualisation exercise to help ground you.

This can be helpful for the times you can’t stop ruminating or worrying about something – it may be the past or the future - when your inner critic is in full force. Notice your thoughts and where you feel the discomfort in your body. Visualise that you are transferring these parts (your unpleasant thoughts and body sensations) into a box, maybe a treasure chest and you lock it tight. Tell yourself, “It’s too much right now and that’s ok… so next week or tomorrow or when I have the capacity if I need to, I can unlock it then. But for now, I’m putting it away.” Or you can visualise your difficult thoughts and the painful parts of you floating down the stream like leaves. Letting them come and go 🍃

Insight Timer (https://insighttimer.com/en-au) is a free app with an array of mindfulness exercises to help practice these strategies.
