We held Estuary Learning’s Event Natural Medicine: Next Generation on the weekend and it was absolutely amazing 🤩🤩🥳🥳👌👌💃💃

A full day of workshops, presentations, demonstrations, panel discussions, exhibitor stalls, freebies, samples, giveaways, raffle prizes, inspiring words, drumming, mingling with likeminded souls, yummy food, hugs, laughter, as well as meals spent with new and old friends before and after the event 🥰💗

My cup is full, my mind is inspired, my soul is nourished and my heart is overflowing ✨🙌💗✨

I think we can safely say the day was a resounding success 🥳🥳🥳

Thank you to all my fellow organisers, the EL Event team, and to everyone who came and helped make the day so special 🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕

See you at the next one!! 😍😍

Lighthouse Health Hub 24/10/2022

Hi all 👋
I have some exciting news!! 😃😃

I am in the process of starting a new business venture with three colleagues and we open our doors on Monday 7th November. (I have done some stories and a newsletter for clients but realised I should probably put a post here too!)

Roch Shamley, Ian Bell, Emily Mouton and I have joined forces to bring you more options and natural alternatives for your health. We are creating a new space:
💜 It will be a health food store (think healthy food, drinks, snacks and even an old fashioned peanut butter machine)
💜 It will be a clinic space (with appointments now available for Naturopathy, Iridology and Reiki, with massage and other modalities to come...)
💜 It will be a place to come and chat about your health and get quality professional advice over the counter (with experienced Naturopaths, Herbalists and Nutritionists working in the shop every day)
💜 It will be a place to connect with likeminded people (think comfy couch, noticeboard, welcoming vibe ✨)
💜 It will be in Beaumont St Hamilton and the name of our new business is
✨✨ Lighthouse Health Hub ✨✨

We've been working hard behind the scenes to get the space ready and also setting up the Lighthouse Health Hub website (lighthousehealthhub.com.au) Facebook (Lighthouse Health Hub) and Instagram () which are up and going now and there will be more info added as we go so go check them out, like our Fb and Insta pages and give our new business some pre-opening good juju and love 💜

Also: I am moving my clinic to the new space so from November I will no longer be working from my home clinic and all consults will be held at Lighthouse Health Hub - 136 Beaumont St Hamilton (Ph 49692210). I will be closed for consults for 2 weeks to allow time to pack up my clinic and move it across, and I reopen in Hamilton the week of 7th November.
(Note: There are no more appointments available before I move but you can book an appointment for November in the new space any time from now.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you need a herbal tonic refill to tide you over until then please reach out ASAP so I can ensure I make your tonic before I pack up my herbs 🌿🌿

I'm in the process of changing the information on my booking system, confirmation emails and messages, and my own business website, insta and facebook but there will no doubt be a changeover and settling in period so if you have any questions then please reach out by text or email. (And if you notice something that I haven't changed over then feel free to let me know haha 😆)

I'm super excited about our new business venture and about working with these beautiful and amazing colleagues and business partners and combining all our energy and experience to bring you something special 💜

If you're in Newcastle come and drop in from 7th November - I look forward to seeing you in the new space!

Lighthouse Health Hub Health food shop, over the counter naturopaths and nutritionists, Newcastle, NSW, herbal medicine, nutrition, homeopathy, supplements.

There are often many layers to symptoms and disease, and true deep healing requires us to heal all the layers, not just the surface ones 🩹

Have you ever had symptoms that are hard to shift despite doing “everything” that should ease it? Or symptoms that ease temporarily but keep coming back? There may be an underlying emotional layer that needs to be addressed ❤️

Sometimes things are simple and physical, sure. But we are amazing, complex, multilayered beings and our bodies hold SO many unprocessed emotions without us knowing. These unprocessed emotions hold energy which can then present as a physical symptom.

I have experienced profound shifts in symptoms by going deep into the emotional layers of healing and I am passionate about bringing this to my work 🙌

I always start with physical support because I believe the body is always healing and working towards homeostasis, and given the right environment and support will heal itself. Sometimes if it purely a physical issue this may be enough, however often we need to go deeper.

I then look at what’s underlying or blocking the symptoms physically and work on supporting that. And then we look at what’s underlying or blocking the symptoms emotionally and help them to gently release and resolve. And some energy work such as Reiki is beautiful to support the shifts as well.

If you’re having trouble shifting some stuck symptoms then reach out. We may need to ask your body what it needs to heal ❤️❤️

I have a confession to make...

I'm not like other Naturopaths !!

I have been a Naturopath for 17 years and for many of those years I spent a lot of time and energy trying to be like other Naturopaths, to do what I thought I was "meant" to be doing, what I felt was expected of me. Only it didn't feel authentic to me or aligned with who I am.

Over the past few years I have been gradually letting go of expectations and leaning more into my own unique gifts, talents and experience. I've been gradually changing the way I work, learning some extra skills that support my own interests and gifts, moving into areas that I feel aligned with and working in a way that feels right to ME 🙌

I have also been on my own personal journey of healing and have found many tools and techniques that I use myself, some of which are evidence based and others definitely not, and I like to use whichever of them may help my clients.

So here I am putting it out there and owning it.

⭐️ I like to work slowly and gently with people because I don't believe quick fixes bring lasting results.
⭐️ I like to look at what's underlying your symptoms on a deeper level physically as well as emotionally and energetically.
⭐️ I like to help people connect with their own inner wisdom and I trust and respect that you are the expert on your body.
⭐️ I may use lower doses, less supplements and more emotional work if I feel it is right for the person in front of me. Some appointments I may not give you any herbs or remedies at all because the healing that week may lie in listening to the body and releasing an emotional layer.
⭐️ I use (where appropriate) muscle testing, NER, EFT tapping, guided meditation, Reiki, journaling, sound healing and counselling techniques from Resource Therapy and parts work to help my clients.
⭐️ I believe our body speaks to us through symptoms and it is up to us to listen and to develop a good relationship with our body such that we can hear, interpret, respect and trust what our body is telling us.
⭐️ Developing and deepening my relationship with my own body is an ongoing journey for me personally and in recent years I have reached a level of profound love and respect for my body and new ways of communicating with her.
⭐️ I'm human and still sometimes fall back into old patterns.
⭐️ I love Astrology, Numerology, meditation, women's circles, energy work, Reiki, Angel and Oracle cards, sound healing, earth medicine and all kinds of woo woo.
⭐️ I'm not great at systems, paperwork, marketing or business know-how but I muddle through that side of things because running my own business allows me to work in the way that feels right to me.

OK. So now you know. No more trying to be like other Naturopaths, it's time to own who I am and celebrate how I work. I trust that the way I work is not only right for me but also right for those who come to see me. So if any of this speaks to you, please get in touch, I'd love to hear from you.

Jo 😊🌺

The more healing work I have done the more I realise that the only thing that has ever been in my way is me.

Obvious yes, simple yes, but in practice has taken years to work through.

Yes sometimes things feel like a struggle, sometimes things feel hard, sometimes it has felt like there’s no support, or that the environment is draining or people are judging.

And yet when I peel back the layers I realise
I have chosen this situation, this environment.

When I look deeper at what I’m actually struggling with it is usually my own feelings of limitation, my own expectations of how things should be, or my own deeply ingrained limiting beliefs from childhood or from society.

What if I let that all go...

What if I let it be easier...

It’s nice to have a “well tended garden” of support and connections and help and reassurance and people who get you and see you and accept you... and if it doesn’t happen by itself then I’ve realised that creating that is up to me.

And so I have.

I have created that in my life... but first I had to create it within MYSELF.

I give myself what I wanted from others and didn’t receive.

I let go of and forgive the comments and actions that have hurt me because holding onto it is not helping me.

I support myself, I connect within, I give myself reassurance when I need it and I fully accept myself just as I am.

I am my own best friend.

So now I have my own internal garden.

And I tend to it daily.

Anything else is a bonus.

The funny thing is that when you create it within yourself you also attract it externally.

And so the garden grows.

Last week I asked my heart ❤️ what she needed from me.

“To go on a Jo Date” she replied.

Oooh that sounds nice I thought, and I asked her what she would like to do.

“A picnic!”

So I agreed and decided Sunday would be the day.

It rained all week and even earlier thismorning so my mind wasn’t sure about the picnic plan.

Then this afternoon it wasn’t raining.

My mind was still unsure - the ground would still be damp! We could go to the movies instead?

“We’ll have a picnic rug” reminded my heart. “I REALLY want to go on a picnic and lie under a tree and stare up at the sky and listen to the birds and read a book and eat chips and contemplate life”

So that’s what we did. Just my heart and me ❤️

And it was perfect 👌

And my heart is full ❤️

One of my pet hates is...
M A R G A R I N E 😝
There aren’t many foods I would suggest people never eat because I believe in moderation and in listening to the body’s own wisdom 🙌
However margarine is definitely one and here’s why... 🤔

A question I often get asked in clinic is: “Why is my vitamin D level low when I spend so much time outdoors?”

So I’ve made this short vid to explain:
☀️ What can hinder the production/formation of Vitamin D in the body
☀️ What can deplete us of Vitamin D
☀️ What might cause us to need more Vitamin D
☀️ What we can do about it
☀️ Foods to include and foods to avoid
☀️ Some info about supplements

Any questions? Send me a PM 😊

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it means to be professional or portraying a professional image, and how that creates distance and separation. I think maybe it was more important to people in the past but as we move forward, with all the lessons the pandemic has brought us and especially in the new world we are creating and moving into, to me it’s more important to be real, honest, authentic, relatable, reliable, consistent and have personal integrity. That’s what I look for myself in health care providers as well as any service provider. I admit in the past I have held myself to unrealistic expectations in the hopes of appearing professional. Moving forward I am choosing to be more true to myself and to show up as I am and share my knowledge, wisdom, experience, gifts and interests because I am who I am and that is enough ❤️

I’ve been contemplating the year that was 2021 today, and what a rollercoaster of a year it was! I became an empty nester, turned 50, E turned 18 and C turned 21 and I had my workplace closed down all within 3 months, I had a couple of health scares that were scary and traumatic and caused me to dig deep into trust and strengthen my relationship with my body, and then of course there was Covid and lockdowns and mandates. Being in lockdown from July to December gave me plenty of time to heal, feel, reassess and strengthen my resolve to be more ME than ever before. There was a lot of letting go this year as well. So yeah I’m walking into 2022 feeling stronger, wiser, more authentic, more grounded in my truth, and more sure of who I am and what I want to bring to the world. Bring it on ✨🙌✨

It’s a different Christmas this year...

With case numbers super high in Newcastle and so many things cancelled one after the other... plans have been changing daily over the past two weeks and while I was disappointed at first, my head was spinning and a part of me was trying to hold on to some of our usual traditions, I reached a point where I let go of all expectations and let it be what it is 🙌

And at that point my stress melted away and I decided to just be grateful for my many blessings and enjoy whatever happens. And there is so much to be grateful for! (Why do we put so many expectations and time constraints on ourselves and others for things to be a certain way anyway - especially at this time of year??)

Things have been changing in our family anyway as my 3 kids have now all left school and are out in the world doing their own thing and I’m so proud of them ❤️❤️❤️

Then Covid has forced some more changes, especially this year and we just have to roll with that and stay flexible. So thank you Covid for showing me where I was holding on. You are proving to be a big vehicle for change, flexibility, learning, growing, reassessing, strengthening, letting go, trust and gratitude in my life and you’ve delivered again 🙏

So with no family coming tomorrow, no house guests, only myself and 1 of my kids here on Xmas day, no traditional big extended family gathering on Boxing Day... I’ve got less to do than usual and that’s a beautiful thing and I’m making the most of it. And as I walked my pups at the beach I was thinking... I’ve never been so relaxed on Christmas Eve 😎

Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎅🎅🦌🦌❄️❄️⛄️⛄️🥂🥂🍒🍒🍤🍤🍫🍫🌺🌺🌟🌟💚💚❤️❤️

Learning to trust our own inner wisdom or inner knowing is a really important skill. It’s something that can take practice especially when we haven’t done it and are used to giving our power away. As we move forward into a new way of being in our world I feel like we’re all being called more and more to find the answers within ❤️✨🙌✨❤️

06/11/2021

It has been a lifelong journey for me of getting to know my body, learning to listen, to love, to accept and to trust my body. It’s a relationship that is so important and so worth developing and deepening. It’s an ongoing journey and this year has brought some symptoms requiring a further deepening of the journey. Whatever your relationship is like with your body it’s never too late to change it and step deeper into love, acceptance and trust ❤️

Hi all, a lot of people are asking at the moment about the Covid Vax - whether to have it, when to have it, which one to have, how to avoid or minimise symptoms and adverse reactions, and how to support our immune system - which is important either way.

It's a personal decision for each of us so I will never tell you what to do - but there is a lot of confusion around it and I can help you wade through the information and come up with an individualised plan for you depending on your health status and other factors.

I know a lot of my clients are sensitive to medications and some supplements and are careful about what they put into their bodies. And you should know that there are herbs, nutrients and supplements that can support you to minimise reactions from the vax if you are choosing to (or mandated to) have it, and also to support and boost your immune health if you're planning not to have it.

So I wanted to let you all know that I'm here and I'm available to speak to about this with no judgement. No judgement whether you're planning to have it or not, no judgement if you're worried, and all questions are totally OK.

I feel like we all need more information without judgement. (There is enough division in the world right now.) So I have created a short consult at a discounted price specifically for this - to just talk about immune and/or vax related issues during the pandemic. These short consults will be available by Zoom only. We can have a chat about your individual circumstances and I can support you - with information, listening, herbs and/or supplements or whatever is right for you.

You can book via my page or website, or send me a message. I'm looking forward to seeing you soon 🌺
