We have been having so much fun with this show, and our audiences have been loving this unique evening of music. Tonight is the last chance you will have to come and hear the magical Dot’s Symphony by Matt Cross Makes Music and many other exciting works by other local composers.

There are ticket costs to suit all budgets so please don’t stay home, come and hear this very special evening of original music in our last show for the year.

Living in Newcastle NSW, Matt Cross is a multi-instrumentalist with a strong passion for live performance, and songwriting. He started piano lessons from an early age, and later gravitated towards guitar. Tearing through the albums of AC/DC and Bon Jovi, it wasn’t until the high school band needed a pianist for a performance of Cold Chisel’s “Khe Sanh” (a song that Matt now dreads when it is requested). It was at this point that Matt found his home on the keyboard.
As Matt matured as a musician, he found joy in songwriting and composition. His debut album “Take Your Time” demonstrates this, creating luscious soundscape textures, combined with rugged blues instrumentals.

“Dot’s Symphony” (originally “Dot’s Song”) is a composition written by Matt in 2018. Originally for solo piano, Matt has arranged it to include strings and flutes for tonight’s performance. The song is written and dedicated to Matt’s niece Dot. “Dot’s Symphony is an absolute delight to play, it is full of the whimsy and wonder of childhood” Naomi Dart.

This piece will be performed during the Thursday and Friday evening performances. Tickets available via this link https://events.humanitix.com/ekstasis-ensemble-presents-midnight-sun-ov61fav3

Ekstasis Ensemble is a local group of musicians who have formed to play local emerging composers works. We aim to provide opportunities for student composers and composers who may be disadvantaged. Our programs will be interesting and diverse from a broad range of genres, it won’t be only classical or art music, that we will represent.

We have 3 performances coming up in November at The Dungeon on the 16th, 17th and 18th at 6.30pm. We also have an Open Rehearsal at Catapult where you can come and see how the r ensemble works directly with composers followed by a score read through for any aspiring composer who wishes to get some feedback and connect with the ensemble in the future.
