Well, that brings the first "proper" week after the holiday period to an end. Was a busy one for sure. Hope everyone has a great weekend and a shout out to the team still doing the hard yards out on the road!

Evening everyone. Today we did something a bit special. The admin team here in Christchurch held a Christmas themed m***i day and Secret Santa in the office. Instead of buying for each other, they each brought along a present that was donated to the Salvation Army to pass on to a family in need. What a cool way to give back to our community 👍🏻😀 Big thanks to all involved for organising this event and making it such a success!

Morning everyone, slight change of direction today. We had a special visitor yesterday in the office, meet Zeus :-)

Zeus was a bit naughty and had a trip to the vet after eating something he shouldn't but the good news is he is ok now and needed to have an afternoon with his Mum keeping a close eye on him at work. Turns out he was a bit of a hit so perhaps he will be invited back again, he was a very good boy after all...

Our Christchurch based Distribution Team has recently taken delivery of two new Komatsu forklifts. Aidan and David have been assigned to these flash new units as their "daily driver", Dave is pictured here getting the job done Komatsu style!

Another week draws to a close and the festive season is almost upon us. Opzeeland Limited is celebrating early this year with our annual Christmas function happening tomorrow night. To get ready for the celebrations, Truck 5 and our Christchurch based Tractor unit T26 have been all shined up ready to line the entrance to the venue.

Hi everyone. Been a bit slack on the Facebook stuff the last week or so, the real work is really cranking up as we head towards Christmas! Here are a few pics sent in by Ash who was recently (ok, today) down in Central Otago doing some of that real work, but also taking the time to grab some stunning shots of T76 and 77 in a pretty spectacular setting.

Opzeeland Limited was proud to field a team in the 2023 Golfing With The Stars event on Friday 10 November held at Clearwater Resort. This event is run by and supports the great work of the Braintree Wellness Centre based here in Christchurch.

Our week of milestones is drawing to a close but not before we acknowledge a few more people that have achieved significant service with Opzeeland, so congratulations to the following people:

Well, this week is dominated by milestones and we're not finished yet! This is a big one, 30 years service has just ticked over for our South Island Operations Supervisor, Kevin.

Kevin joined Opzeeland back in 1993 and held a variety of driving roles from the early days, starting on the metro Christchurch team for around 12 months before joining the South Island linehaul team mostly working on flat deck truck and trailer units carrying logs, processed timber and general freight.

He took up a new challenge in 2005, moving into his current role as South Island Operations Supervisor where he excels at coordinating the movements of the South Island fleet on a daily basis, as well as dealing with customer queries and the continuing challenge of evolving technology!

Kev is a man of few words, and as it turns out even fewer photographs, but he is a real asset to Opzeeland Limited and we hope to keep him on board for many more years to come.

Congratulations Kevin on achieving such a significant milestone with Opzeeland.

Good afternoon everyone, today we celebrate another long service milestone in the Opzeeland Team, this time it is our Transport Operations Manager Geoff who has reached 20 years service.

Geoff joined Opzeeland in 2003 in the Metro team delivering goods around the Christchurch area. After a couple of years he moved into the South Island Linehaul team where he remained until 2007. He then stepped into an Inter-Island driving role and stayed on that run between Christchurch and Auckland until 2019 when he transitioned from his happy place in the drivers seat to a new challenge behind the desk as the Inter-Island Transport Supervisor.

In 2022, after a 3 year stint in this position he took a promotion into his current role as Transport Operations Manager.

Geoff says he has remained with Opzeeland for 20 years mainly because he loves working here. He particularly enjoys the people and the atmosphere that Opzeeland offers, as well as the challenges and opportunities that have been available during his time here.

Congratulations Geoff on such an achievement, here's to 20 more!!

Afternoon everyone, here we have the second of our new Scania R650 trucks to go on the road recently. Meet number 87 and 88. This unit will be driven by Jason who has been with Opzeeland Ltd since early 2013.

Jason started with us unloading containers for 3 months, then moved onto the Christchurch Metro team for 3 1/2 years, and then spent another year on the mid-south Canterbury run. From there he progressed to the South Island linehaul team for 3 years and has been on the Inter-Island team for the last 2 1/2 years. You will see Jason and 87/88 on the road between Christchurch and Auckland, and most places in between. Congratulations Jason on the new unit.

As promised, here is the first of our new R650 Scanias that has recently started running between Christchurch and the North Island. Truck 58 and Trailer 59 joined the fleet at the end of August 2023 and is driven by Rob who has been with us at Opzeeland Ltd since January 2020 on the Inter-Island team. If you see them out and about see if you can grab a photo and send it through to us to feature on the page.

Morning everyone, welcome to spring time! This photo was taken in our Chch depot yesterday morning. Number 79 and number 5 all set for a busy week on the road.

The sky is not quite as clear here today but regardless, the guys and girls are out there doing the good stuff across NZ as we write this.

We mentioned earlier in the week that we want to celebrate success and highlight milestones, so we are starting with a big one today. Our Distribution Supervisor Merv has recently completed 35 years of service with Opzeeland, starting here as a Warehouse/Distribution Supervisor in October 1988. Congratulations to Merv for this significant achievement. Below are a few highlights and memories from Merv’s career as Distribution Supervisor at Opzeeland:

• I started here having come from Tai Tapu Dairy Company when Opzeeland was just starting to get into storage of client’s goods. I was using Opzeeland to store products at the time. So, I had a relationship with Opzeeland as a client.
• When the Tai Tapu Dairy Company decided to close its doors and move the manufacturing plant out of town, I didn’t really want to move as I had so many ties to Christchurch.
• As Opzeeland was wanting to grow the storage/distribution part of the company, I was offered the job to help in its growth.
• We had 4 storage clients at the time. Over the years our general storage space grew as we took on many clients who wanted to store their products with us and utilise our growing fleet to deliver them.
• Hence, we now have over 8 warehouses, storing a variety of goods for many clients, each one as important as another.
• I really enjoy seeing these clients grow and being part of the process in helping them meet their expectations.
• My first role was pretty much my present role, but more of a daily hands-on one - as we only had 3 guys working in the store.
• I really enjoy the interaction with all our clients, being able to jump on a forklift, pick a few orders, work side by side with my guys in the warehouse and most of all have a few laughs😊😊.
• As the business has grown, my role has been more focused on Administration and making sure we keep our quality service going day in day out – so these days you will find me more office-bound.
• Over the years I have had parts to play in training, Health and Safety, auditing requirements, HR and Social Club activities.
• What has kept me here all these years is the family culture, some great clients and other great friendly staff.
• 35 years has gone by fast; it certainly doesn’t feel like that long. It is a pleasure to be part of the Opzeeland Team😊😊.

Congratulations on reaching this significant milestone Merv – and thank you for your 35-years of valued service to Opzeeland, over which time you’ve made a massive contribution in so many ways. Things continue to change but there is no substitute for experience – which added to your dedication for doing what’s right for the customer is an unbeatable combination. Rumour has it there was a guy in Holland some years back that voluntarily made a couple of models, sounds like he liked the idea of Opzeeland trucks in Holland and New Zealand.

One or two of his models made it to New Zealand and still reside with the Opzeeland family today.
