If well sealed and stored, oil paint can last up to 15 years. However, all that time sitting around can take its toll and the paint ingredients can separate (even in fresh tins). The heavier oils sink, with the lighter fluids rising to the surface leaving a watery, opaque film on top of your paint.

Don’t go crying “off paint” just yet though. All you need to do is stir the mixture until it’s fully combined and you’re ready to start painting.

Bubbles! They may look harmless, but when it comes to your stains and clears, bubbles can ruin the finish of your DIY project. Shaking will add air bubbles to your solution that will harden, then pop when applied to your surface. This is called pitting and it results in an uneven finish.
