Coming soon to a Crescent near you - our new private dining space we have christened the Nook!

This ex-storeroom is in the final stages of its transformation from ugly duckling to elegant swan, and will become our second dedicated, fully private dining area.

With capacity to comfortably seat 12 and also fully AV enabled, this space is perfect for smaller, more intimate personal or work group gatherings.

We’re pretty excited to share this new offering with you - you can book the Nook already (via our Functions Manager) for bookings from mid-November onwards!

The Crescent show is always on! It’s normal operating hours for us despite the public holiday in the south on Thursday:

- Wednesday Evening = Little Little Friday (you’ve got another 4 days to get over it 😉)
- Thursday = Little Friday (or Show Day)
- Friday = The Day With Southern Tasmania’s Highest Annual Occurrence of Sick Days Taken/Annual Leave
- Saturday = Still Two Days To Go!
- Sunday = Come In For a Recovery Roast & Relax

Who are these likely lads you ask?
This is the great Gordo & Nick from .
They’re putting the finishing touches on our new heating & cooling system for the pub (with a little bit of synchronised screwing-in of the external condenser units 😉).
Why now? We recently received a government grant from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment & Water () to upgrade our very warm - yet very expensive - vintage wall & oil heaters around the pub.
Based on Gordon’s complex electrical calculations, we’re expecting to reduce our heating & cooling energy consumption by up to 50% annually!
Meaning we can (still) keep you warm and toasty in winter AND NOW ALSO keep you cool as a 🥒 in summer.

Exciting news - we recently took delivery of some brand new Crescent Hotel merchandise from the lovely people

As such, we decided to pay some professional clothes-horses a hefty price to model our new wares (the hefty price being a free game of pool and a shared can of alcohol-free beer 😬).

Cellar Update: 1981 Wyndham Estate ""Harold Holt"" Vintage Port is now available by the glass.

Harold Holt disappeared whilst swimming near PORTsea in 1967. Coincidence? We think not.

We don't recommend drowning your sorrows, but be sure to come and enjoy a sip of this liquid gold before it, too, goes the way of its namesake and disappears as well.

Sometimes it's inevitable: the dessert comes out and it looks better than you. The solution is to eat it as quickly as possible and pretend it never happened (which is exactly what we did after taking the photos for this post 😉)

Like many businesses, we don’t always get our hiring right - if it was that easy, we guess there would be no need for HR managers, performance management, difficult conversations, and ads like this one...!

With that being said, we are also not the type of business to sit on our hands and expect easy solutions to walk through the door. The Crescent Hotel is a hospitality business packed with oodles of industry experience, business smarts and leadership. With just enough Irish heritage to consider ourselves a suitable venue, it is with great pleasure that we announce our support and sponsorship of the Tasmanian Gaelic Football & Hurling Association!
The T.G.F.H.A. was set up in 2007. It is an organisation that not only promotes Irish sport, but its music, culture and heritage as well.
The T.G.F.H.A. runs a mixed Gaelic football social league from October to December every year. The league currently has 4 teams that play each Thursday 6pm at Parliament Street Oval in Sandy Bay. All players must be 18+ but no experience needed - so if the fancy takes you, they always love to see new faces!

This weekend we are opening up some cracking wine from the Lubiana family, starting with Deep Valley Blaufrankisch @ $18/glass.
An Austrian varietal produced and influenced by previous vintage work in Austria, and made in collaboration with the great , it’s a juicy, medium bodied red with subtle oak integration that is as approachable as it is moorish.
See you in front of the “fire” 😉.

We had a Working Bee at the pub this morning to give the old gal a bit of cosmetic improvement (although for 165 years old she’s still looking relatively magnificent!).
We’ve nipped some long-standing jobs in the bud (who knew there was that much chewing gum on the bottom of the barstools 🤮), tucked into some BBQ sausages and hydrated with a couple of frothies along the way 🌭🍺
