I am a speaker, author, and educator. The focus of my work is Equity, Inclusion and Human Rights.
β¨ A ray of hope πΏ
Last night, I had the honour of attending the Belmont and West Australian Small Business Awards where I was a finalist and also named the Business Migrant of the Year 2023.
I humbly accept this recognition with heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support of every individual and organisation that has trusted in and collaborated with Diversity Focus. Together, our collective efforts continue to breathe life into our vision.
As a black woman who has confronted numerous challenges and continues to shatter barriers on this journey, this award symbolises far more than words can convey. My work is challenging, deeply personal and purposeful, and being acknowledged in this way is a privilege I hold dear.
I invite you to reach out to explore opportunities for collaboration where there is synergy. Let's continue making a positive impact together! π
I voted YES! π³
I hope you did too ππΏππ½ππ»
For my Perth folks, if you are at a voting station or heading to one now and still undecided, here are key reasons to consider voting Yes:
β
οΈ The Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is key to how Australia progresses as a nation. Dignity is about Recognition and recognition starts with having a Voice.
β
οΈ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be able to decide on the policies that affect every facet of their lives, and a successful Yes vote outcome, which you can create provides a mechanism for this.
It can't get more simple than this. I trust you have/will vote in favour of better outcomes.
I recently had the pleasure of speaking at the WA Aquatic Recreation Conference 2023 organised by LIWA Aquatics on invitation from the Royal Life Saving - Western Australia.
I presented a case study and facilitated participant dialogue on what cultural inclusion means practically and how to address bias in communication accross diverse contexts.
Our ability to engage and communicate is key to everything we do, and the outcomes we hope to gain are contingent on how well we do this.
Thank you to Royal Life Saving - Western Australia for the opportunity to work with you once again.

It was a privilege to speak at the International Women's Day event today organised by The Town of Victoria Park in collaboration with the West Coast Eagles.
I shared the stage with three incredible leaders, Karen Vernon (Lawyer and Her Worship the Mayor of The Town of Victoria Park), Leena Adel (Founder and President of the Multicultural Professional Women's Network), and Bella Lewis (West Coast Eagles AFLW player).
It was an honour to share a little about my leadership journey, our role as agents of change, the power of education in changing the world and the importance of holding on to and always leaning on the side of hope.
I left feeling inspired by the stories and wisdom of fellow panel speakers, and their role in dismantling systems of gender inequality.
Story time! π
We all have many stories. We are all shaped by people and experiences who have profoundly impacted the trajectory of our lives.
Here is story that speaks (partially) to my "why" in doing equity and inclusion work...
In this week's article, I share some thoughts based on observations from workshop facilitation, on the danger of seeing exclusion as a function of "unconscious bias".
I welcome your thoughts, observations and experience.
I share a weekly article on topics related to workplace culture, diversity, equity and inclusion. If these topics are of interest, consider me today so you can be notified when I post.
Happy Reading!
I'm looking forward to speaking on structural intersectionality in family violence responses with Hala Abdelnour, CEO of the Institute of non-violence and Anu Krishnan, CEO of Kulturbrille. We draw on grassroots research and explore implications for best practice.
The conference features an exciting lineup of international practice leaders from around Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

In this week's article, The Danger of Diversity PR, I share my thoughts on the risk of using "diversity" as a PR tool, and what companies can do instead.
I share weekly insights on a range of topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.
Follow and like my page to keep up with future posts.
Happy Monday! Happy Reading!
I share a little story about our experience with someone peering through our office reception areaβ¦
We know that concepts of equity and inclusion, at their core, are common sense, but their application in the workplace is not always common in practice.
Happy [Fri]day!
Sharing some thoughts on Inclusive workplace and thing we did in our office for inclusion.
Interesting, it was also more comfortable for everyone!
Universal design is a win win!
I'll be sharing weekly articles on Inclusive Workplace Cultures.
This weeks first article, titled 'How to Avoid a Tick Box Approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)' explores how organisations can create more inclusive cultures through a strategic and research-led approach.

This day commemorates the life and work of Dr. King in the United States.
Globally, we his life and remember that he paid the ultimate price for his unrelenting belief in racial equity.
It's great to be back in the office and get into the swing of things after a short (and much needed) break!
It's the new year and I'd like to introduce myself to new connections. It's lovely to be connected. This is a re-intro for existing connections and followers (but hey it's the new year right π€·πΎββοΈ).
If I can be of assistance to help strategise and implement efforts to improve your workplace culture, feel free to send me a DM and let's chat further.

True inclusion is reflected in . This beautiful story brought a smile to my face this morning!
ICU nurse Ginny took into upon herself to source a range of combs and moisturisers to ensure care is provided for all clients equitably.
We've all navigated the hospital system and experienced how incredibly isolating it can be. Powerful practices such as these are integral to person centred-care. It's about ensuring patient care is prioritised in way.
A cut above: looking after our diverse patients in Intensive Care A nurse at Guyβs and St Thomasβ has launched a new initiative to care for the hair of some of the most ill people in hospital, from diverse backgrounds.
Over the weekend, I womaned a stall at the Employment Expo and enlisted two little helpers.
My kids were excited to help, though they ended up spending much of their time playing π
My daughter was especially excited to meet a reporter from SBS and wanted to be interviewed, but she had to sit out on this occasion π

The national Australian of the Year Awards screening takes place live on ABC and ABC IVIEW at 7.30pm on 25 January 2023.
Coming down from the high of Newkind 2022.
It was a pleasure to share the stage with co-panelists Juliana Nkrumah AM, Ruby Hamad and our awesome moderator Hala Abdelnour and speak on Intersections between Gender and Race.
What an exhilarating way to finish off the year! The Newkind Conference 2022 in Naarm (Melbourne) has been absolutely rejuvenating.
The learning, growth and connections fostered through this safe and powerful space have been second to none.
It was lovely to see so many familiar faces, and finally meeting in person those I've known and engaged with for many years through LinkedIn.
The conversations, both throughout the conference, and the many "off side" conversations, coffee chats, lunch and impromptu dinners have been refreshing.
I've had more fuel added to my tank to keep going! DEI work is emotionally taxing and can be incredibly isolating, especially for those of us with lived experiences and who run our own businesses in this space. I'm excited for what Newkind 2023 has in store, it can only get better from here.
Thank you Erfan Daliri for leading with purpose and creating a space for raw and honest conversation. Well done to you, Sophie Appleton and the team who worked tirelessly behind the scene to make it possible ππΎ
Thanks to everyone I have connected with, you are too many to name but you know yourselves.
I trust we all got back to our homes, from wherever we have travelled, safely!
It was a pleasure facilitating an Anti-racism and Allyship workshop for the Department of Eduction WA.
My co-facilitator, Elizabeth Tekanyo, and I covered anti-racism pedagogy, helping leaders to connect with the concepts, principles and practices in educational contexts.
Please note, this workshop is facilitated as an interactive dialogue, not a presentation. The content and activities are customised for specific workplace contexts.
To engage us for this training, feel free to email me directly and enquire. Alternatively, please complete the needs assessment, and we will be in touch with a proposal and quote.

Happy International Women's Day 2022!
I travelled to Albany to be part of the ACCI Great Southern Women's Leadership Forum in celebration of International Women's Day on the theme .
I had the honour of delivering the first keynote on Inclusive Leadership: Leading Change and I spoke on the need to lead by firstly looking at what needs to change from within the self before we can conquer what is without. I'll share a summary of my keynote on my website (elizabethlang.com.au) soon so watch this space!
Thank you Smith, CEO of Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and your team for putting together this powerful event.
