It took us a little bit of time to get things in order, but Baldrick is officially listed on our website as available for adoption!

Baldrick is a very petite little guy, but don't let it fool you he is actually turning 8 this year. He is generally healthy, though has previously suffered from colitis and is eating a special prescription diet to avoid flare ups. He does not like other cats/pets and is looking for a home where he will be the only pet and spoilt accordingly. He also will take a little bit of time to come out of his shell but is super affectionate once he is settled.

For more information or to apply please check out the available for adoption page of our website!

UPDATE: Mickey is now on trial with one of the lovely people who reached out. Thanks for everyone who sent an enquiry.

ASSISTED REHOMING ADELAIDE

Introducing Mickey - a very sweet older boy looking for a new home. Mickey will be 11 this July and he is desexed, microchipped and up to date with vaccinations.

He is socialised with cats and dogs but would still need the usual slow introduction. Mickey would thrive with an older person that likes cuddling cats as he is very affectionate.

If you would be interested in providing a loving home for Mickey please email [email protected] and we will pass it on to his current owner.

This is an assisted rehoming and Mickey is not currently in the care of Sphynx Rescue. By sending us an email you are giving permission for us to forward your email to Mickey's current owner.

Introducing Baldrick! This little man has been very well loved and looked after but was living in a multi cat household - unfortunately he is not a fan of other cats. His owners did their best to try and create a harmonious household for all the kitties, but unfortunately nothing worked so they have made the difficult decision to find him a new home where he can be king of the house without the stress of other cats.

We will be taking him to the vet for a general health check (though we have no concerns) and pending the results of his appointment he should be listed as available very soon!

Wasabi & Stitch are officially accepting applications.

They came from the same home and are used to each other so we would love to send them to a new home together, but they are not 'bonded' and can be separated if it comes to that.

Their ideal new home would be a mature household with no other pets.

*Update - the amazing Peggy Ham-Cat has been adopted and is off to her wonderful new home! πŸ’–

PEGGY HAM-CAT is here to make your furless feline dreams come true!

Peggy LOVES people, dogs, cats, mouse toys, sleeping under blankets, watching and talking to birds. She is a hairless shadow and will be your constant companion, be it cooking, sleeping or on the toilet - she will be right there with you, purring the entire time.

Special needs for a special girl! Peggy Ham-Cat requires extra help maintaining her fabulousness:
✨ yes, her skin needs bathing every five days with a gentle soap-free shampoo and conditioner
✨ yes, hairless cats are prone to being cold and Peggy may need to wear soft jumpers in winter
✨ you betcha - the sun is not Peggy's friend, she can and will get sunburned, even just sleeping in a sunbeam. Indoors for life.

If you're an experienced sphynx owner who loves a bald bestie with special requirements and specific care, Peggy Ham-Cat is the one for you.

We are officially taking applications for our sweet hairy hairless girl Odyssey!

Importantly: she is overdue for her yearly vaccination but due to a worldwide shortage of vaccines we have been unable to get her vaccinated and she is on a waitlist for when there is stock (last we heard was possibly in February?). She was last vaccinated in 2022 and would still have a level of immunity/is not considered high risk so we thought we would open up applications and either send her home once she gets vaccinated or make sure her new owners are able to book her in as soon as possible.

UPDATE: Thank you so much for all of your interest - you are all so wonderful ❀️ We passed on every message we received to Fitz & Toby's current owner and she has just reached out to say they have been placed in a lovely home. Thanks again to everyone who offered to help!

SEEKING LONG TERM FOSTER CARER (potential to adopt for the right home/if they settle in well and it is in the cats best interest)

We have been contacted by the owner of these two boys Toby (5 years old, white nose) and Fitz (4 years old, black nose) as they are moving overseas and cannot take the boys with them initially, and the carer they originally had planned has fallen through. They are now urgently looking for someone to care for the cats as they leave on January 18th. They are looking for a home able to help care for Toby and Fitz until they are on their feet in their new country (could be 12 months +) and then could arrange for the boys to be flown over to join them. Alternatively, for the right home and if the boys settle in well it could potentially be a permanent rehoming.

The cats are fine around children, but have not met dogs or other cats - would definitely need a slow introduction and patience. Toby is healthy and has no known health issues Fitz has some tummy problems so is on Hills ID veterinary diet, he also has chronic rhinitis which can mean he is sneezy at times - this seems to be triggered by foods as well. Fitz can't really tolerate foods other than the veterinary diet without causing tummy upset, but has a huge appetite and will get into anything that is left out!

They are currently located in Brisbane but could travel for the right home.

Please note this is an assisted rehoming and the cats are not in the care of Sphynx Rescue and we take no responsibility for the rehoming process. This post is shared at the request of their current owner and all enquiries will be directed to their current owner.

Meowy Christmas! πŸŽ„πŸŽ

Update on our favourite curly girl Odyssey!

Whilst relocating can be stressful for any cat, Odyssey came to us with a history of previous stress related urinary issues so we wanted to make sure we did everything we could to make her feel at home.

Whenever we take a cat into care we always give them their own private room not only so they can be quarantined for health reasons, but also to allow them to build confidence, come out of their shell and get used to the sights and smells of their new temporary home. It means we can take things at their pace and ensure they feel comfortable with their new surroundings before potentially introducing them to other cats, dogs etc.

Odyssey is such a sweet and friendly little girl, it took her no time at all to settle in and it was barely a day before she was begging to be let out to play with the other animals she could tell were there somewhere (we still had to keep her separate to complete her quarantine and we felt so mean!).

Her visit to the vet went well too, she is a bit on the chonky side at the moment but other than that there was nothing of concern. She is currently eating a special urinary diet which we have stuck to just to be safe, but she could potentially transition to another food in future if she remains stress free. Odyssey is also overdue for her yearly vaccination, but there is currently a worldwide shortage of cat vaccines. Whilst missing one year won't mean she has no immunity and is at risk, we would prefer to get her up to date before she goes to a new home so she is currently on the waitlist for when they come into stock (current ETA is February 🀞).

We will likely start accepting applications for her soon, so please keep an eye out for updates!

Goose 🐞 - Love bug in NSW, Paws A Moment & Rescue 05/12/2023

This sweetheart is currently available through another rescue in NSW ❀️

She has been diagnosed with HCM which at this stage is mild and not needing medication, but she would need check ups with a cardiologist to monitor and medicate when necessary - please do some research on HCM if you are unfamiliar with the disease.

We have had multiple HCM positive cats come through our rescue and we know how difficult it can be to find homes that are compassionate and understanding of the condition, it definitely takes a special kind of person. Even with their diagnosis the cats always have so much love to give and still deserve amazing homes to live out the rest of their lives. We are happy to say all of the HCM positive Sphynx cats we have placed are still doing well and whilst it is definitely a case of good luck, I also like to think the love and extra care their new families have provided has played a role.

Please show Goose and Paws a Moment & Rescue some love πŸ’•

We have a very special little lady to introduce to you! This is Odyssey the hairy hairless cat 😹 She is a Sphynx but some recessive genes decided to make themselves known by way of her long, wavy coat.

Odyssey came into care this week and is settling in really well. We will be taking her for a general vet check up and all going well she will be looking for a new home soon ❀️

ASSISTED REHOMING NSW (Tamworth)
Post from current owner:

Missy Ling is a 7 year old Torbie Sphynx (born April 2016) and comes from a registered breeder with her papers. She is desexed.

She has the sweetest personality and will love anyone who gives her attention, but she isn't a fan of children. She seems fine around dogs but hasn't been around other cats. My brothers border collie follows us around the yard and licks her, Missy just ignores him. She will wear a harness and loves going for walks.

Missy likes to snuggle on the couch and sleeps under the covers with me.

She has no medical conditions and loves her food, a mix of wet and dry.

I'm so sad to rehome her, but life had taken a turn I wasn't expecting, and she deserves to have love and attention.

PLEASE BE EXTRA AWARE OF SPAM/SCAM POSTS AND COMMENTS WHILST WE ARE AWAY!

We will have limited access to the internet this month and may not be able to block and delete scammers as quickly as we usually try to.

If someone is commenting on a post asking you to join a group, or saying they have a cat for you - it is spam, please be careful!

PLEASE BEWARE OF SPAM/SCAM POSTS AND COMMENTS!

We get a high volume of spam posts and comments recommending pages and groups for people interested in sphynx cats, kittens etc. These are all scams attempting to prey on people on our page - do not join these groups! We do our best to delete and block all posts and comments of this nature as soon as we can, but we get so many sometimes they can be missed, so please be careful!

(Picture of Boogie and Orion for attention - we will do a proper update on the cats in our care soon ☺️)

UPDATE: Wednesday's owner has been in touch to let us know that she went to a new home this weekend, thank you to everyone for your interest.πŸ’•

ASSISTED REHOMING NSW (Wollongong Area)

Wednesday is a 4 year old blue tabby bicolour girl (desexed) looking for a new home. She wouldn't mind being an only cat but also seems to do well with other cats and small dogs, loves bed cuddles and laying in the sun.

She is being rehomed through no fault of her own. Her first owners had a baby and like all cats she loved the heat and wanted to be in the babies' cot - so she was rehomed to her current owner as they have experience with the breed. Unfortunately Wednesday's presence has stressed out the resident older cats in their home and is causing issues so she must now find a new loving home.

Please note this is an assisted rehoming and Wednesday is not in the care of Sphynx Rescue and we take no responsibility for the rehoming process. This post is shared at the request of her current owner and all enquiries will be directed to her current owner.

Blue eyed beauties Orion and Gucci are now taking applications!

Orion has been ready to go for a while but he is such a sweetie that we have considered keeping him and that is why he hasn't been listed as available until now.

Gucci has had a dental completed at our vets today and is doing really well, we expect her to be ready for a new home in the next couple weeks so we have opened applications for her as well!

They are both now listed with more information on the 'available for adoption' page of our website and we are happy to answer any additional questions you may have ❀️

Introducing Johnson! He only came into care this weekend so is still a bit shy and unsure of what is going on... but we can already tell he'll be a sweetheart when he comes out of his shell ❀️

ASSISTED REHOMING NSW (Western Sydney/Lower Blue Mountains)

Introducing Gomez (7 years old) and Nika (6 years old), these two sweet kitty siblings are seeking a new home together and cannot be separated.

Nika is a bit of an anxious girl and due to changes in her living situation has developed stress cystitis (main symptom being blood in her urine) she has seen multiple vets who have ruled out UTI's/other urinary issues. The vets have recommended a change of environment and removing all sources of stress as the best way to help Nika, so her owners have made the difficult decision to try and place her and her half brother Gomez in a new home where they can be relaxed and happy.

Gomez and Nika are looking for a mature home with no dogs or young children as these are big sources of stress for them at their current home.

Please note this is an assisted rehoming and the cats are not in the care of Sphynx Rescue - all enquiries will be directed to their current owners.

If you are interested or have any questions feel free to message or email us at [email protected] and we will do our best to answer and/or pass on your messages to their current owners.

Opal Update:
Thank you to all of the wonderful people who reached out to offer a foster home for Opal - we haven't had a chance to contact everyone back individually yet but Opal has moved into a foster home and settling in really well. If her situation changes we will keep you updated but in the meantime here is a cute photo of the special little lady enjoying her new foster home ❀️

27/07/2023

Sweet little Opal is looking for a foster home ❀️

You might recall our introduction post about Opal some time ago, but this little girl is still in care with us at HQ as we cannot in good conscience adopt her out with a potential HCM diagnosis looming over her head. She is due for her next heart scan in February 2024 which will hopefully provide more definitive answers on whether the abnormalities that were noticed last time are a congenital defect or indeed early signs of HCM.

In the meantime we have treated her eye ulcers and she is doing really well, so we think she is finally ready to potentially move out of HQ and into a foster home! Opal loves people and other cats (as long as they have a proper, slow introduction), she isn't the biggest fan of dogs though could potentially tolerate a calm one. If you are based in Melbourne and would be interested in fostering Opal or have any questions please get in touch either through our social media or by emailing [email protected]

19/06/2023

Boogie is unimpressed it has taken us so long to post an update about him (or he is just showing off his remaining teeth?) πŸ˜¬πŸ˜…

Our sweet older boy Boogie has finally had his dental work done and after some little health scares that turned out to be nothing (better safe than sorry though!) he is now looking for his forever home! We think he would best suit a home on his own where he can spend the rest of his days being an absolutely spoilt king of the house πŸ‘‘ but he can tolerate other animals so could potentially go to a home with others too.❀️

We had planned on giving him a bath/spa day and taking a bunch of cute photos to post (we still will!!) but whilst trying to get back on top of admin work we accidentally set Loki's adoption profile to public.. and decided why not leave it that way? πŸ˜‚ So OFFICIALLY this giant cuddlebug is accepting applications πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³ If you have any questions specific to him please do not hesitate to ask (we will post updates and hopefully list other cats as available soon - we are very behind on admin!). We will have him listed on our website exclusively for the next few days then will also list him on petrescue.

Don't mind his grumpy face here - Loki is an attention loving sweetheart, just a bit too big for his own good!

09/03/2023

Introducing a sweet little lady we have been calling Opal. She is nearly 1 and a half years old and very affectionate and inquisitive, she likes to call to us from the stairs to ask for a pat or a cuddle. When she came into care she was due for her yearly vaccination and had a squinty/teary eye so we took her to Melbourne Cat Vets for her shot and a general check up to get her ready for a new home. They found that she had an eye ulcer and they also noticed a grade III heart murmur - nothing is ever as simple as we hope! We managed to get a last minute appointment with cardiologist Dr Richard Woolley for a heart scan, which found Opal did have some abnormalities with her heart which could be a congenital defect or could be very very early signs of HCM (so early it cannot officially be diagnosed). We have been treating her eye ulcer and it is much improved (as you can see in the photo), as for her heart there is not much that can be done right now. We have been advised to bring her to see Dr Woolley in 12 months time to recheck and if there are any further changes to her heart at that stage HCM would be confirmed.

We are considering our options as 12 months is a long time for her to be in foster care at HQ, but we wouldn't want to rehome her without a diagnosis unless it was to someone who fully understood the implications and agreed to continue her care. We are leaning towards looking for a longer term foster carer in Victoria for this precious gem, but in the meantime we are happy giving her all the love at HQ! πŸ₯°

We have been a bit burnt out lately with all of the madness that came with the kittens, so apologies for the lack of updates or if any enquiries have been missed!

We are run by a very small team of volunteers and mostly self funded (so we work very hard in our 'normal' jobs to help get the kitties the care they need) so sometimes admin can fall behind.

We do have some adult cats in our care at the moment we look forward to sharing with you soon, but in the meantime please have some cute photo updates we received of little boy Bartok in his new home ❀️
