😎HOW CAN YOU IMPROVE JOINT HEALTH?😎
These general tips can be applied to all ages!
✖️Maintain your ideal weight
✖️Keep moving! Motion is lotion for joints, and movement eases joint stiffness and pain
✖️Do resistance training. Your cartilage responds well to being under load, within reason, so never lifting weights may be worse for your joint health
✖️Eat anti-Inflammatory foods, such as olive oil, green leafy vegetables, nuts like almonds and walnuts, fatty fish, fruits, and herbs such as ginger and turmeric
✖️Expose your joints to full range of motion. For example, don't avoid squatting to full depth and don't avoid moving your spine into all its ranges of motion

😎HOW TO STAY ON TOP OF YOUR PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE AND PREVENT INJURIES😎

Injuries occur due to many different mechanisms but these general rules can be applied to injury prevention:

✖️Don't get complacent with warming up! Warming up with dynamic stretches and specific exercises will get your muscles firing and your nervous system prepared.

✖️Recover well! Sleep well, eat well and cultivate a positive frame of mind before maxing out on your workouts.

✖️Share the load throughout your whole body to allow for recovery. Avoid the 'arm day erry day' approach. Tendons especially need more time to recover than muscles.

✖️Lift with good technique and seek professional advice if you are inexperienced with certain lifts or training modalities.

✖️After big workouts make sure to stretch, foam roll or go for recovery walks or swims; a warm shower won't always cut it!

😎HOW CAN YOU DECREASE HEALING TIME AFTER AN INJURY?😎

All injuries are different but these general rules can be applied to most injuries

✖️Daily activity. Keep the joints and muscles moving. This helps the body jump nutrients and metabolites in and out of the affected area, restores function to the area and reduces deconditioning
✖️Reducing load. Decreasing healing time also includes not making things worse. So keep moving BUT deload. This means lift less or modify the activity
✖️Dietary habits. Eating whole foods vs processed foods can reduce the bodies inflammation and potentially reduce healing time
✖️Alcohol. Although a few drinks may not be bad for you, reducing or eliminating alcohol is likely reducing healing time post injury
✖️Health care professional. Getting treatment can help the injured tissue recover faster and more optimally. Managed rehab will also help the healing process and reduce to risk of re-injury

😎OUR GUT😎

Most of us know how vital our gut health is for keeping alert and losing excess fat, but these are some fun facts you may not have heard of...
✖️ Roughly 70% of our immune system is located with in the gut.
✖️ If spread flat your digestive system would cover a tennis court.
✖️ The acid in your stomach is strong enough to burn your skin
✖️ Stomach cancer was No. 1 in the 1940s, now it’s No. 8
✖️ Most people with “gluten intolerance” don’t have celiac disease
✖️ Prebiotics seem to be more effective for gut health compared to probiotics

What have you been doing to take extra care of your gut health?

😎DO YOU TRAIN YOUR FEET?😎

A simple way to train your feet is to walk, run or lift with barefeet or minimalist shoes.

Here are some of the benefits:
✖️ Strengthens and builds the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the foot
✖️ It may improve balance and proprioception. Going barefoot activates the smaller muscles in the feet, ankles and legs that are responsible for better balance and coordination
✖️ Runners will learn to land on the forefoot or midfoot rather then the heel. Landing on the heel causes unnecessary braking and impact forces on every stride
✖️ Barefoot running seems to reduce stride length and ground contact time while increasing stride frequency. These are signs of good running efficiency

Cons:
✖️ Lifting weights in no shoes or minimalist shoes is fairly safe, though running and walking in the same manner can be quite a shock to the feet and require a slow adaptation phase
✖️ Under Conditioned feet can initially feel overworked. This could lead to injuries such as achilles tendonitis, stress fractures or calf strain

Take home message is try kicking the shoes off while working out but be very cautious when transitioning to barefoot or minimalist shoe running!

😎BENEFITS OF EXERCISE?😎

We all know exercise is good for us but here is a little reminder and some facts you may not know...

✖️ There are many studies showing exercising improves brain performance and sharpens memory
✖️ More muscle mass = burning more fat while resting
✖️ Exercise prevents signs of ageing and improves your skin
✖️Exercise improves mood, reduces anxiety and helps you sleep better
✖️ You get sick less often and increases productivity

Some helpful tips are...

✖️Joining a gym or community
✖️Make it a daily habit
✖️Make it fun. Dancing or trail walking are great examples
✖️Work towards a goal. Weight lifting or timed runs goals are great examples

Dry needling! A favoured treatment method by our chiropractors. One of many tools of the trade 🛠

22/03/2021

😎 WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?😎

Dry Needling (DN) is a treatment method where fine single use needles are inserted into altered or dysfunctional tissues.

✖️Dry needling is thought to inhibit the transmission of pain signals in the brain and increase the release of pain relieving chemicals.

✖️The body also responds by increasing localised blood flow, directly impacting the muscle being treated.

✖️The net effect in many cases is the release of a tense muscle or myofascial trigger point, which restores the muscles ability to lengthen and contract.

✖️This is often felt with a muscle twitch or the easing of a dull ache.

Dry needling is one of many treatment methods our chiropractors use!

😎BONE HEALTH?😎

Here are some helpful tips to help with bone health!

✖️ Exercise regularly - Optimising your bone density through regular, weight bearing exercise will help to maintain healthy bone mass as we age

✖️ Exercise also increases muscle strength & reflexes – reducing risk of falls later in life

✖️ Resistance exercises, either alone or in combination with other interventions, may be the most optimal strategy to improve the muscle and bone mass in postmenopausal women, middle-aged men and even the older population

✖️ Any exercise that works against gravity is weight bearing, e.g. walking, jogging, dancing and weight training

😎WHAT IS CRACKING😎

An adjustment is a precise movement to a particular joint anywhere in the body. SOOO no real cracking is going on here.

The noise you hear is gas being released, resulting in more joint space. Adjustment helps to:

✖️Restore proper motion
✖️Increase range of motion
✖️Improve function
✖️Reduce pain
✖️Reduce muscle tightness
✖️Reduce headaches

Adjustments are one of many techniques we utilise to help our patients.
