We have launched a new service due to demand!!

A Carer Impact Statement is a personal account of how raising a child with a disability impacts you and what supports you need to keep caring. This demonstrates more than often is captured in professional "functional" reports - from lack of sleep, to not being able to socialise, to turning down promotions at work. We help the NDIS see the whole family supporting the child.. and what the family needs (sometimes this is where we can demonstrate a support worker is needed)

The end of year can be difficult for our kids (and us)! Lack of routine and structure, many social expectations, heightened emotions, unwritten rules around customs, more than usual demands and sensory overload!

Do you have a holiday survival plan?
For us we take 2 cars, limit our social engagements, don't demand our kids engage and have an escape plan with a code word.

If you want to talk through how you can manage the holiday a little better feel free to book in a once-off problem solving session, or if you want to vent to help you cope book in a counselling session.

Our counsellor Ash is on the road and visiting a parent for a Parent Support session.

We go through a checklist of all the areas in your life that might be impacted by caring for a child with neurodiversity and where we can make things a bit easier and free up some capacity and time 🌿❤️

Our Branching Out: Finding Supports workshop is online and ready to watch!

We go through different supports available for families growing children with a disability. In this Australian-specific we go through funding such as NDIS and Centrelink, finding the right services and therapists, and finding your support network.

Did you know you can access 72 hours of Child Care Subsidy as a carer (without having to work)? Or that you can put CCS towards childcare IN YOUR OWN HOME for children that can't attend mainstream services? Neither did we so we want to share this with everyone who needs this :)

Wonder what our logo means?

It combines our "little tree", a heart and an infinity symbol which both represents and celebrates neurodiversity!

We are a neurodiversity-affirming practice in which we create space for neurodiversity to thrive!

I am very excited (and somewhat terrified) to announce that I have launched my website and have moved Little Tree Counselling from a consultant model to an online practice:

https://www.littletreecounselling.com.au

Little Tree was founded with a purpose to bring together therapeutic services and lived experience to support parents navigating more challenging parenting journeys. In particular Little Tree was founded to address the gaps I saw, not only as a therapist, but also experienced as a parent of a child with neurodiversity. I found a disconnect between individualist services offered to children and the experiences of the parents and the whole family around this child. Having lived it myself I understand that parents are often a child's first therapists, biggest advocates and the experts on their own child and I want to support parents’ wellbeing so they can keep being all of these. And of course everything I do is underpinned by the Protective Behaviours process so to make sure that EVERYONE feels safe, connected and thriving on the journey.

Services Little Tree offers includes:
- Parent & carer support
- Counselling (may be eligible for Private Health Fund rebates)
- Learning and Workshops

I am offering my first workshop for free – so please feel free to share. It is called Leaflets (because I do enjoy tree-related puns) and it is about how to organise the admin and paperwork, from shared emails and drives, to preparation and pre-planning, to outsourcing. My hope is that this helps parents to manage the small stuff so they can focus on the bigger stuff – from my own experience managing appointments, reports and NDIS was a full time job but not the most important job I had!!!

Thank you all for your ongoing support on my (and Logan’s) journey to here,
Ash x

And of course Logan is super chuffed to be my inspiration for this and to be “famous” on the website 😊
