My first equipment purchase with my pitch competition winnings. A portable scanner so I can scan documents while out and about interviewing clients, etc, such as original family photos. Also bought a big secondary screen for helping me to create publication layouts with ease! Happy days! 🥳

Last year I met a successful angel investor socially, we got chatting and he insisted I needed to learn how to do a business pitch. He was kind enough to give me a couple of starting pointers. Now, when someone like that gives you their time you do not waste it, you act. So off I went on my merry way to try and teach myself this important skill. I started by attending a live Regional Angles pitch event. That’s where I met Liz Grant. I told her I was there to watch and learn how to do a business pitch. Liz then informed me of The Ideas Place and how they run a course that helps startups like mine become investor ready. They do this by helping them to create a business plan and then a pitch deck. A select few then get to go onto the bootcamp to compete in a Pitch Night competition, with the potential to win some funding. Of course I applied straight away, it was exactly the help I needed. Over the next six months I poured everything I had into my business idea, time, money, and energy. With Liz’s wealth of knowledge (and patience) I was able to compile something that I can show others and be proud of. Not only that, I then went on to the bootcamp and the Pitch Night and I won first prize!
So, thanks to a little nudge from an angel, my many mentoring sessions with Liz, and some long long hours of slog, made this all come to fruition. Now I have done my first business pitch and I have a head start towards raising seed funding for my startup Tale Mapper. 🙏💫

Six South West business people pitched their innovative ideas before an audience and panel of judges for their chance to win funding of $10K, $5k and $3K.

Jean received the funding for her beautiful business idea, Tale Mapper.

Tale Mapper offers a range of life writing packages, which help you to preserve your loved ones' life stories. They will assist you in recording the memories of those who are facing end of life, due to age or illness, and turn them into a professionally written story. They then present you with an elegant keepsake box that holds the stories, transcripts, and digital files, ensuring their legacy is preserved for generations to come.

Tonight I presented my first ever business pitch at the The Ideas Place Pitch Night competition with Corangamite Shire Council Warrnambool City Council Moyne Shire Council sponsored by LaunchVic — and I won first prize! 🏆 🥳 $10,000 in seed funding for my non-traditional publishing company Tale Mapper. I’m so incredibly grateful and excited… I always wanted one of these giant cheques! 😂
