Masking is used to blend into neurotypical norms. It is a projection created to protect individuals from rejection and stigma and can take many forms. Masking tends to be energy draining, as it diverts energy away from the authentic and fulfilling self, and can lead to burnout, meltdown or shutdown.

Trauma responses are our brain and body's adaptive survival mechanism, designed to assess and respond to threat in a way that keeps us safe. While not every emotional reaction is a trauma response, those that are can sometimes be impactful and distressing, but they do not have to be set in stone. Speak to our team if this is a concern for you.

As Pride Month 2024 draws to a close, it is important for us to remember that Pride is for every day. Equally we honour and respect those LGBTQI+ individuals who do not wish to, or cannot safely be visible. We acknowledge and encourage allies to stand up to discrimination and ally closely with the diverse LGBTQI+ community.

Both Ologists and Iatrists work in the mental health field but have slightly different roles. While individual professionals have their own set of skills, here is a (very) broad overview of their respective differences.

42% of people still hide their sexuality and gender identity. 47% of gay and le***an people have experienced sexual harassment in their workplace in the last 5 years. 60% of LGBTQ+ people between the ages 14-22 have felt unsafe in their secondary school.

How do I work with Autistic and ADHD clients?
Why is my neurodivergent client not responding to common Schema Therapy techniques?
What am I doing wrong?
Why can’t I make progress with their Critic Mode?
These, and other questions come up frequently from clinicians doing their best to help their Autistic and ADHD-er clients. Understanding how the neurodivergent experience differs from neurotypical norms and impacts every level of the therapeutic process from intake through to discharge, is essential not only for meaningful clinical change, but also to avoid causing harm to this vulnerable group.

STAND Attuned Training was developed to assist Schema Therapists to apply Neurodiversity Affirming principles to their practice in order to better meet the needs of Autistic and ADHD clients. It is aimed at clinicians who want to improve therapeutic outcomes and increase their confidence in working with this unique population. Standard Schema Therapy approaches are based on neuro-normative assumptions that pathologise innate neurodevelopmental differences and perpetuate Early Maladaptive Schemas.

This training program is the first of its kind and based on the STAND Attuned model developed by the authors. It combines Schema Therapy expertise with insights from the lived experience of neurodivergence to deliver education that is clinically sound, sensitively and engagingly presented.

Our colleague Anita is walking a whopping 100km along England's Jurassic Coast to raise money for Parkinson's Disease research.

"As my family has learnt anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet, funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure."
