Local governments need to stick to collecting rubbish and stay out of woke politics. The Town of Victoria Park has voted to change the name of Tom Wright Park to a Noongar name for Magpie. Why? Because he "didn't do anything remarkable". Compared to the rent seekers currently on the Council, I am sure he was amazing. When will the rewriting of history end? What about the Welsh approach where signs are in English and Welsh? Bit by bit, Western identity is being taken away from us here in Western Australia.

In today's West Australian we see more scenes from the brawls in Scarborough on the weekend. We need to tell our politicians and Police that it is ok to go in heavy, break these fights up and arrest those responsible there and then. Going back to CCTV later is fine, but how does that make the majority of people feel safe?

In today’s Sunday Times a seemingly rational letter to the editor quickly descended into more leftist-nonsense calling for a zero emissions target and a zero plastic target.

Zero emissions and zero plastic targets are both are childish fantasies.

Recycle and reuse, yes of course, ban – absolutely not. Plastic is an important part of our society and economy. Its post-use life by some is what causes the problem.

More than 90% of the plastic in the world’s oceans come from just 10 rivers: eight of them are in Asia and India and two are in Africa. There are almost no incentives for this waste to be stored or recycled properly. Instead, it is left to blow into our oceans.

We don’t like to talk about this as it might be seen as rAcIsT.

Like we have seen with the sInGlE uSe plastic bags that were banned and replaced with bigger, thicker bags, used in exactly the same way, banning isn’t a solution.

We need to unleash the creative forces of capitalism to solve this problem. We also need to have an adult conversation about how we incentivise China and India to address this problem. Even if we eliminated all plastic from Australia tomorrow, the problem would still be there, but we would be bankrupt.
