Actinic Cheilitis is caused from prolonged sun exposure, and in its earlier stages presents as rough, scaly, dry areas primarily on the lower lip.
More advanced stages may include; swelling, soreness, fissuring, ulceration, crusting and the loss of the lip border.

Timely diagnosis is crucial as this condition can lead to cancer if unaddressed.
Thankfully, treatment options are available, and CPSC can offer both treatments and preventive guidance!

If you’re finding everything to be a little more muffled than usual, and your family and friends are having to shout at you to get your attention, our clinic is now introducing a new service, a simple procedure that should fix the problem: ear syringing
It is a very simple process that involves inspecting the ear to check for any signs of infection, and if safe to do so, we will place a small device at the opening of your ear and flush the wax out with lukewarm water. This usually softens and dislodges the wax within a few minutes.
If you think you need ear syringing call us on 1300 277546.

This is the third in a series of images aimed at raising awareness of skin cancer. All photos are from patients seen at CPSC.
This spot was found on the chest of a 50 year old male on a routine skin check. It is a fairly classic Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) with some pigmentation present. This lesion was successfully treated here at Central Perth Skin Clinic.
BCC is the most common type of skin cancer in Australia. It is quite different to melanoma. BCCs are often slow growing and found on sun damaged skin, particularly on the head and neck. They usually present as a pink patch or lump on the skin that may have developed over weeks to months. They may have pigment in them as in the case of this lesion, and they can bleed easily or develop an ulcer on the surface. Sometimes they are very subtle and people are not aware of them until found during a skin check. Other times people think they are just a sore or pimple that isn’t healing up or is “coming and going”.
If you have anything like this on the skin then you should get it checked.

We are very excited to welcome Dr Andrew Duthie to CPSC. He will be joining us in late October and can be consulted on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Andrew is a graduate of UWA and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He is an Accredited Skin Cancer doctor with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia. He is able to perform advanced dermoscopic skin screening as well as complex skin surgery on-site including flap and graft surgery. Surgery has always been an interest area of his and he began early doctor life as an Orthopaedic Registrar. He remains involved in hospital surgical assisting for several Orthopaedic surgeons in Perth.

To make an appointment to see Dr Andrew, follow the links on our website (www.centralperthskinclinic.com.au) to book online, or call 1300 277 546.

This is the second in a series of images aimed at raising awareness of skin cancer. All photos are from patients seen at CPSC.

This spot was first noticed on a 22 year old male after he trimmed his beard – originally it was flat but after noticing it growing and becoming thicker he presented to get it checked.
An excisional biopsy was performed at CPSC and the pathologist confirmed it was an invasive melanoma (subtype = superficial spreading melanoma). He has had further surgery by a plastic surgeon to complete treatment and now attends CPSC on an ongoing basis for regular skin checks.

This is the first in a series of images aimed at raising awareness of skin cancer. All photos are from patients seen at CPSC.

This lesion on a 55yo man’s elbow is a nodular melanoma. This had been growing over a few months and kept getting knocked and irritated due to its location on the elbow. Initially didn’t look much more than a wart on the skin, but it kept growing and prompted a skin check. It has now been completely removed following initial biopsy at CPSC and definitive treatment with wide local excision by a plastic surgeon.

If you have a spot that looks different, is changing, or is like a sore or pimple that doesn’t seem to get better, please get it checked.
