Musk says Tesla takes 200,000 orders for polarising Cybertruck

Tesla CEO and co-founder Elon Musk says that the California car maker has taken 200,000 orders for its controversial Cybertruck – its electric ute – since the official unveiling of the prototype late last week.

The Cybertruck has polarised opinion – on its ground-breaking design right from the outset, and also on its value for money, whether this will be a winner for Tesla and the long-term impact on its share price.

South Australia’s stunning renewable energy transition, and what comes next

The eyes of the energy world are upon it, but the renewable energy transition in South Australia is probably one of the misunderstood, misreported and under-appreciated achievements of our time.

South Australia, for those who have not been paying attention, has dumped coal and now sources more than half its generation from wind and solar, becoming a net exporter rather than an importer of electricity along the way.

Musk re-boots plan to “make roofs come alive” as Tesla unveils new solar tile

Tesla has launched version three of its much discussed glass roof tile, which it says it now ready to be rolled out onto thousands of houses a week in the US, at a price point below the cost of a new roof plus solar panels.

The latest iteration of what Elon Musk describes as the “third leg of the stool” for a sustainable energy future was announced via webcast on Friday evening (US time), capping off a big week for the EV and battery giant, in which it stunned market doubters with a better than expected profit and manufacturing outlook

What to consider when choosing solar?

Like any upgrade or renovation to your property solar is no different you must consider a few factors before choosing your correct system. The goal in purchasing solar is to help you save money on your power, help the environment and add value to your property.

The 4 factors that you need to consider are:

Roof Space - You can only go as big as your roof allows but sometimes shading from trees or building structures can limit what you can install. We do have products that suit every challenge but sometimes this will affect your budget.

Personal Budget - You need to way up the financial savings of the investment of the system, the goal is for the savings to amount to a 3-year payback period. Sometimes it may take a little longer if you have an unusual install with extra costs or you have chosen a system with heaps of smart features.

Power Bills - It always amazes me how different every person's power bill is. Always work on a February bill as most people use more power in Summer due to Air Conditioning and maybe pools. It's always good to compare a summer and winter power bill as a cross reference.

Future Real-estate Plans - To sell or not sell is the question and if you are selling you may not want to install solar as you may not get the best benefit for the investment. If you are staying for more than 3 years, then solar is worth it. You may want to choose a system package that best suits your type of property such as a family home may want to have a battery ready inverter etc. If your installing on your investment property maybe go for a good valued system rather than a fully optimised system.

if you have any questions about solar let me know or pm.
Regards Andrew

BHP turns to renewables to power huge copper mine in Chile

Australian mining giant BHP says it expects to make significant cost savings when it replaces gas with renewables to provide most, if not all the power at the Escondida copper mine – the world’s biggest – in Chile.

The company’s chief external affairs officer Geoff Healy says the company is in the final stages of contracting a renewables power supply for the 1.2 million tonne operation, as part of a tender of its electricity supply in both Chile and Australia, including the Olympic Dam project.

ACCC new push to end rooftop solar subsidies appears to get support from Taylor

The chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has again re-iterated his call for the removal of subsidises for rooftop solar and appears to have the support of federal energy minister Angus Taylor.

Last year, the ACCC chair Rod Sims delivered a series of recommendation to the federal government on how to tackle high electricity prices, with many of the recommendations having been embraced by the Morrison government as validation of its pro-coal agenda.

Victoria, Nissan trial CSIRO smart solar EV charging technology

CSIRO researchers are testing new electric vehicle charging technology that maximises the use of rooftop solar generation, and minimises demand from the grid, as they seek to head off the not-too-distant future challenge presented by mass EV charging at times of peak demand.

In a state government funded collaboration with Delta Electronics and Nissan Australia, three solar and battery backed EV charging modules – each capable of charging four electric vehicles – will be put to the test.

Swiss Neighborhood Solar Energy Blockchain Trading Network Off to a Good Start

Thirty-seven households and a retirement home in the Swiss town of Walenstadt participated in what’s known locally as Quartierstrom, a blockchain-based solar power trading market during the first two weeks of this month (February), a successful start for the pioneering project.

The households and retirement home sourced 25 percent of the solar-generated electrical energy they consumed from their neighbors over the course of the period. That rose to a high of 37 percent. All told, 32 percent of the energy generated among the participants was traded and consumed in the neighborhood. Generators consumed just less than one-half. Eighteen percent was dispatched on to the network of the utility, Walenstadt Water and Electric Co., according to an industry news report.
