Flora was busy at our weekly sewing classes, crafting a vibrant denim tote bag highlighted with a burst of yellow to make it stand out. If you want to try this at home or join us in class here is the pattern:

Finished size height 10 1/2”, Length 11 3/4”, Width 4”

✂️ Materials

- Strips of denim and contrast fabric 14 1/2” in length
- Fusible Interfacing - 2 of 19 1/2” x 14 1/2”
- Polyester Fibre Sheets - 2 of 19” x 15”
- Lining - 2 of 18 1/2” x 14”
- Lining Pocket - 1 of 10” x 14”
- Handles - old jeans and fusible interfacing - 2 of 3” x 16”

✂️ Making the Panels

- Sew denim and contrast fabrics together with 1/4” seam to make front and back of bag.
- Cut to 14 1/2 x 18 1/2.
- Iron fusible interfacing to wrong side.
- Spray fibre sheet and glue to wrong side of front and back panels.
- Sew around edge, then sew straight lines down each slide of joining seams.
- Cut out corner squares 2” x 2” on front and back panels.

✂️ Handles - Make 2

- Iron fusible interfacing onto old jeans strips.
- Press in half, open out and fold outer edges to centre fold. Press in half again.
- Stitch close to each edge.
- At the top of front and back panels, measure 2 1/2” from centre point and mark.
- Attach and sew handles in place.
- Place right sides together and sew 1/4” seam along sides and bottom. Sew corners closed with 1/4” seam.

✂️ Pocket

- Fold fabric in 1/2 lengthwise and sew around leaving a 3” gap at base.
- Clip corners and turn out. Mark a line down the centre.

✂️ Lining

- Cut out 2” corners.
- Mark centre point at top of one piece of lining.
- 3” down from top draw a straight line. Centre pocket on line and stitch around edge. Then stitch down centre line to divide pocket.
- With right sides together sew 1/4” seam down sides and bottom leaving a gap at bottom to turn out.
- Press seams out.
- Sew across corners

✂️ Making the Bag

- Place bag inside lining matching slides seams and sew around top.
- Turn back out through gap at bottom of lining. Close gap.
- Top stitch around top edge.
- To help keep bag squire, at top of each corner mark 1 1/2” from top and stitch towards top line.
