These pictures are extremely upsetting - this is just criminal. 💔

Perhaps you saw our post last week about Elli and Zac's Tiny Home. If you believe that this way of living should be promoted and supported there is a current WA government petition to sign. The petition is trying get better outcomes for this style of home as often for Councils it falls into a grey area.
We thought we would share the link for those who are keen to see more flexible housing options available in WA.

The Plastic Free July Challenge was the catalyst for us starting our own bulk food store in Kalamunda called Replenish.
We love the ethos of minimising, reusing and simply not wasting food ♥️.
Thanks to all our customers who came and refilled with us over the weekend it was lovely to see you all. X

If you have been into Replenish, then you may have seen me! My name is Elanor, and for the last nearly three years, my partner Zak and I have been building a tiny house on wheels. We have put a lot of work into this with a goal of being able to live more sustainably and affordably.
We are at the final stages of our build and looking for somewhere to park our home. We are happy to negotiate a parking fee or rent.
In search of vacant flat land, such as a field, paddock, orchard etc.
We both work locally and would like to stay within the Perth Hills area, ideally within 30 minutes of Kalamunda.
If this sounds like something that may interest you or you would like to discuss further, feel free to come by for a chat or get in touch.

*Ellie is at Replenish from Tuesday to Thursday if you would like to speak with her. X

What's this cute but obscure photo about?
These two lovely ladies came in today and made the effort to pay cash so Ellie gave them a smiley face each 😊❤️.
You may have noticed our sign at Replenish saying 'Cash preferred, card accepted'. There are a few things we are trying to accomplish by doing this.
💰 If we don't use cash in greater numbers the government will take it away altogether with a bit of lobbying from the banking sector.
💰 Every time you tap or use a card the bank gets a cut of that spend. Personally I really feel the banks are getting big enough profits from all our mortgages!
💰 Our eftpos systems are awesome while they are working but what happens if they go down for some reason?
💰 As a small family owned business we currently absorb the fees of our customers using their card. This makes our margins tighter and is fast becoming harder to maintain.
💰 We appreciate it's not necessarily a convenient way to pay but there are multiple benefits that are largely out of sight for many people. One example is to imagine a physical $20 note travelling through our community retains its full value as it gets used over and over again. If the same $20 travels through our community via eftpos it is reduced by bank fees at every transaction point along the way.
Food for thought. X

Happy World Localisation Day!
Here are the Apple and Pecan Mini Muffins I made this morning. The ingredients travelled 431 km which is pretty good. The apples, pecans, honey and eggs came from Carmel and Bickley.
I will put the recipe on our website over the weekend. ❤️

20/06/2024

Tonight I am using these Carmel Springs Pecans to make my 'Shortest Meal Challenge' dish. These pecans have travelled 6.2km to our shop in Kalamunda!
Tomorrow on the shortest day of the year what are you eating that has travelled a short distance?

This week, to celebrate World Localisation Day, we are running the 'Shortest Meal Challenge'.
This Friday, the 21st of June, we are celebrating the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. This is our shortest day of the year, and we are challenging you to share your 'shortest meal'. Create a meal or part of a meal that has travelled a short distance. I'm going to start us off with salad ingredients grown in my garden.
With the winter rain finally here, my greens are taking off! Some greens you may not have thought of using are nasturtium leaves, herbs, rocket, fennel foliage, sorrel, silverbeet, and young Beetroot leaves. What are you foraging for in your garden?

Tag us in your Shortest Meal Challenge. ❤️
NewZealand.

We have been off-line for a few days visiting the beautiful Barrington Tops National Park in NSW. Whilst there, we ticked off a bucket list item by visiting . We were given a tour by guide Riley around the facility. He was a great source of information about Tassie Devils and the other endangered species Aussie Ark are working to protect. If you have the opportunity to book a two night stay in Quoll Cottage and say hello to a Tassie Devil we would highly recommend the experience. ❤️
This is where our donation dollars will be going before June 30.

Happy World Environment Day ❤️

🌍 Happy World Environment Day! 🌿

Today marks the UN-led initiative to raise global awareness and inspire action to safeguard our planet.

Now is the time to act! If we don't change our ways, plastic waste is set to double and ocean pollution could quadruple by 2040. That's why on this World Environment Day, we're rallying everyone to take the challenge and to invite others to join and make a difference.

Ready to take the challenge?
https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/take-the-challenge/

💡 Idea: inviting friends, family and colleagues to join in is a great way to make a difference for a world without plastic waste. Tag someone you would like to join you.
