At VCS, we are delighted to announce the introduction of a full scale hire service for sanding machines and timber floor maintenance machinery. Included in the range are 8 inch and 10 inch Bona Belt Sanders which are well known as very reliable industry leading floor sanding machinery.

Unlike normal light machines which are very much lighter, the bona belt sanding machines have a very accurate tracking belt design and have the weight that is needed to do the job properly. They have the weight to power to width ratio that is needed to produce professional floor sanding results. All of the machines incorporate use of an easy to use clutch.

We are delighted to introduce the Bona Combi edger. It is necessary to do work with an edger when sanding timber Floors but many of the designs are quite difficult to use. The Bona Combi edger overcomes a number of the problems by simply using a standard 150 mm disk and a Velcro attachment. This means that standard Velcro discs can be used. You will also be pleased to see a row of LED lights have been fitted to the machines which allows you to see exactly what you are doing when sanding. This is a great edge sander.

In addition we have incorporated into the range several rotary Sanders. We are using both the traditional Polivac sander which is a well-known design in addition to the Bona Flexi sand. We have several bona Flexi sanders on order and currently have one in stock ready for hire immediately.

Dust control is also an essential part of the job. For this reason we have put into the hire division several DCS 50s along with a DCS 70 for commercial applications. In addition we have scrubbing machines for surfaces that simply need a scrub and clean and coat. We have two different designs in stock ready for hire.

The range is backed by access to the very best floor coating products from both Bona and Osmo as well as all of the essential abrasive items slanted towards abrasives that use ‘true grain; to achieve a sanded finish more quickly.

A home serves as a unique and personal space meant for habitation. It reflects the tastes, personalities, and lifestyles of the individuals residing there. Given this, your home – more specifically your floor, should not control or limit your lifestyle. Instead, it should seamlessly integrate into your life, enhancing it, supporting it, and aligning with your needs.

Considering that every lifestyle is distinct, the flooring used should also reflect that. The type of flooring – be it solid timber, engineered, or a hybrid, should be chosen in accordance with the lifestyle you lead. For instance, if you have pets or small children, a hardy, damage-resistant flooring would be an apt choice. For someone who prefers elegance and warmth, wooden flooring would be ideal. Decking in Western Australia: A Struggle with High UV Levels

In Western Australia, a unique challenge emerges for decking due to the extreme exposure to high UV levels. This factor creates a demanding situation where almost no coating can last or provide sufficient protection. However, with thorough research and trials, VCS has discovered a solution that can effectively withstand the harsh Australian sun – OSMO Decking Oils.

Decks Need Extra Protection in The Harsh Conditions in Western Australia
OSMO Decking Oils, renowned for their high pigment levels, have been identified as the only coatings that offer the necessary durability and resilience in such severe UV conditions. The high pigment content in these oils acts as a barrier, protecting the decking material from the intense Western Australian sun, thus increasing the longevity of the deck.

However, it is essential to maintain a regular top-up of these oils to ensure continued protection and preservation of the deck’s physical appearance and structure. The regular replenishment of the coating not only keeps the deck looking new but also significantly contributes to its durability, ultimately increasing its lifespan.

While decking in Western Australia faces a tough battle against the region’s high UV levels, a solution does exist. With the use of OSMO Decking Oils and a regular maintenance schedule, it is entirely possible to preserve and prolong the life of your deck, even in the harsh conditions of Western Australia.

Protecting Timber Against High UV Levels in Western Australia
Western Australia, renowned for its sunshine, is exposed to some of the highest levels of Ultraviolet (UV) radiation globally. This condition necessitates special attention to outdoor materials and surfaces, especially timber, due to the detrimental impact of UV radiation. Therefore, it is paramount to understand the challenges posed by high UV levels in Western Australia and why timber needs special protection.

Ultraviolet radiation stems from the sun and is the primary cause of wood degradation. Though it is an essential source of Vitamin D for humans, UV radiation is harmful to many materials, including timber. The high UV levels in Western Australia can cause significant damage to timber used in construction, furniture, and other outdoor applications, leading to a range of issues.

Firstly, the UV radiation results in a process called photo-oxidation, causing the timber to discolour and turn grey. This process not only affects the aesthetic appeal of the timber but also weakens its structural integrity. Secondly, UV radiation breaks down the lignin in the timber, an essential compound that binds wood fibres together. This degradation leaves the timber vulnerable to splitting, cracking, and warping.

Moreover, the high UV levels exacerbate the timber’s susceptibility to other environmental factors. With the protective lignin deteriorated, the timber becomes more prone to moisture absorption. This dampness can lead to swelling, shrinking, and eventual rot, further compromising the timber’s longevity and integrity. Additionally, the weakened timber becomes an easy target for termites and other wood-boring insects.

Given these challenges, it is clear that timber in Western Australia requires special protection. Various protective measures can help mitigate the damaging effects of high UV levels on timber.

The Need For UV Protection
One of the most effective ways to protect timber from UV radiation is through the application of UV-resistant finishes. These finishes contain ingredients that either absorb or reflect UV rays, thereby reducing the timber’s exposure. The protective coating also provides a barrier against moisture and insects, enhancing the timber’s durability.

In addition to UV-resistant finishes, regular maintenance is also crucial in prolonging the timber’s lifespan. This includes regular cleaning, prompt repair of any damage, and periodic reapplication of the protective finish. By adhering to a stringent maintenance schedule, the timber can withstand the harsh UV levels and other environmental challenges in Western Australia.

Another practical measure is the strategic placement of timber structures. Positioning timber structures in shaded areas or using UV-protective coverings can significantly reduce the exposure to UV radiation. This, coupled with the use of UV-resistant finishes and regular maintenance, can greatly extend the timber’s lifespan.

In conclusion, the high UV levels in Western Australia present a significant challenge to the longevity and integrity of timber. However, with the right protective measures and regular maintenance, it is possible to mitigate the damaging effects of UV radiation and ensure the durability of timber. By understanding the impact of UV levels and proactively taking steps to protect timber, we can continue to enjoy the beauty and functionality of timber in Western Australia for many years to come.

Ultraviolet (UV) light, a component of sunlight, can have a significant impact on the appearance and longevity of natural products. This is primarily due to the fact that UV light carries more energy than visible light, making it powerful enough to break chemical bonds.
When UV light comes into contact with natural products such as wood, fabrics or artwork, it can cause the molecules that make up the pigments or dyes in these products to absorb its energy. This energy absorption can result in the breakage of chemical bonds, altering the structure of the pigment molecules. This process, known as photodegradation, can lead to a change in the colour of the pigment, causing the material to fade over time.
Moreover, the effect of UV light on natural products is not just limited to colour changes. It can also cause physical damage to the product. For example, in the case of wood, UV light can degrade the lignin, a component that gives the wood its rigidity, causing it to become brittle.
In conclusion, strong UV light can cause significant damage to natural products, altering their colour and physical structure, and ultimately decreasing their lifespan. Therefore, it is important to consider UV protection methods when using natural products, particularly if they are to be exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods.
OSMO UV PROTECTION OIL IS A KEY PRODUCT TO PROTECT TIMBER

Tinted Ultraviolet (UV) Protection Oils from OSMO are subtly shaded oils designed specifically for external wooden joinery, wooden garden furniture, pergolas, wooden doors, fascias, and other trimmings. However, these oils are not recommended for use on horizontal surfaces such as wooden decks.
These oils provide a microporous surface that enables the wood to breathe, thereby minimising the wood's swelling and shrinkage. The finish these oils provide slows down the greying process on vertical surfaces, offering a UV protection factor of 12 when compared to untreated wood.

Another notable component of the finish is biocides. These are active substances that guard against mould, algae, and fungal attacks. However, due to the presence of biocides, these oils should not be used internally or externally on surfaces like tables where food may be consumed, or on wooden decking that will be walked upon.

The OSMO Tinted UV Protection Oils are available in five subtly shaded colour tones, with an additional "Natural" option. The UV Protection Oil in Natural is ideally balanced with white pigments designed to maintain the natural appearance of light-coloured timbers such as pine and oak. It is not advisable to use this on darker timbers like kwila or jarrah etc, as the white pigment may lend the timber a chalky appearance.

The advantages of using these oils include:
1. Tinted finish for additional UV protection
2. High resistance to water and dirt
3. Reduction in wood swelling and shrinkage
4. Protection against the growth of algae, mildew, and resistance to fungal attacks
5. Offering a microporous, breathable finish that neither cracks, peels, flakes, nor blisters
6. Eliminating the need for sanding for future applications.

Why is Oak Flooring Highly Favoured in Australia?
For many years, VCS has been a leading supplier of quality Oak timber in the Australian market. Our range includes exquisite Oak sourced from France, renowned for its deep, rich colours, American Oak, celebrated for its lighter shades, and European Oak, appreciated for its wide colour spectrum and understated hues. Now we have a beautiful range of engineered flooring.

Oak flooring is a perennial favourite among Australians, and there are several reasons that contribute to its popularity. One of the primary factors is the inherent durability and strength of Oak. Being a dense hardwood, Oak naturally holds up well against wear and tear. This inherent resistance makes it an ideal choice for areas that experience high foot traffic, such as in homes and commercial spaces.

Moreover, Oak flooring is often finished in OSMO Oil which makes it relatively low maintenance, requiring only basic care to maintain its looks and integrity. With proper upkeep, Oak floors can last for many decades, making it a cost-effective solution in the long run. This enduring lifespan combined with its ability to withstand high usage areas positions Oak flooring as a smart investment for both residential and commercial spaces.

Beyond its impressive durability, the popularity of Oak flooring in Australia is also driven by its natural beauty and versatility. Oak is a warm and inviting wood, known for adding a touch of character and elegance to any space where it is installed. The wide variety of colours and finishes that Oak offers, ranging from light and natural to dark and rich, allows it to cater to diverse design styles and personal preferences. Whether you're seeking to create a rustic aesthetic or a sleek, modern look, Oak flooring can be stained or finished to suit your taste.

Another factor contributing to the appeal of Oak flooring in Australia is its timeless charm. Oak has been used for flooring for centuries and its popularity persists due to its classic and enduring appeal. Installing Oak flooring can add value and prestige to a home or commercial space, creating a timeless investment that can stand the test of time.

In addition to adding financial value, Oak flooring also enhances the aesthetic appeal of any space. The natural grain patterns of Oak add a unique visual interest that is difficult to replicate with artificial materials. Whether you're renovating a heritage home or outfitting a contemporary commercial space, the addition of Oak flooring can significantly elevate the overall look and feel of the space.

In summary, Oak flooring continues to be a popular choice in Australia due to its remarkable durability, inherent natural beauty, versatile design options, and timeless appeal. Whether you are planning a home renovation or selecting flooring for a commercial space, Oak flooring offers a long-lasting and stylish solution. It not only enhances the value of the property but also contributes to creating an appealing and welcoming space. With Oak flooring, you're not just choosing a floor - you're making an investment in the longevity, aesthetic, and overall feel of your space.

The versatility and durability of oak as a material for furniture, flooring and various other interior design uses, makes it one of the most sought after natural resources. Notably, oak is especially well-suited for staining, making it the ideal choice for those seeking to add a splash of individuality and creativity to their décor. With a wide range of colours available to suit every imaginable taste and style, the OSMO Tint and Stain system has all you need to achieve your desired appearance using oak.

One of the attributes that make oak so attractive for interior decorators and homeowners is its readiness to accept stains. Oak has an inherent ability to absorb stains well, allowing it to be coloured according to one's preference without losing its natural charm and elegance. This makes it possible for individuals to introduce a personal touch to their oak pieces, lending a unique character to each item.
The OSMO Tint and Stain system is a comprehensive and user-friendly solution designed to cater to the varying needs of both professionals and amateurs. Whether you’re a seasoned interior decorator looking to offer your clients a broader range of choices, or a DIY enthusiast keen on giving your living space a personal touch, this system will serve you well.

One of the standout features of the OSMO Tint and Stain system is the sheer variety of colours available. Regardless of the shade you have in mind, you can be confident that you'll find it within the OSMO range. From subtle, understated hues to vibrant, striking colours, the possibilities are virtually endless.

The system works by penetrating the oak’s surface to interact with its natural characteristics. This not only allows the stain to adhere well, but also brings out the wood's natural grain and texture. The result is a finish that is not only colourful but also rich and detailed, enhancing the beauty of the oak.

Moreover, using the OSMO Tint and Stain system is not as daunting as it may sound. The process is quite straightforward, even for those new to staining. After the surface of the oak has been adequately prepared, the stain is applied evenly using a brush. It is then left to dry, after which additional coats can be applied if a deeper colour is desired.

In conclusion, the beauty of oak combined with its ability to accept stains well makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking to add character and individuality to their décor. With the OSMO Tint and Stain system, the possibilities for colour and finish are virtually limitless, opening up a world of creativity and personalisation. Whether you’re a professional or a DIY enthusiast, you can achieve the look you desire with oak and the OSMO Tint and Stain system.

Our extensive hands-on experience with OSMO has unequivocally demonstrated to us that it stands head and shoulders above the rest as the premier oil on the market. In an industry where we are frequently being approached by other companies urging us to evaluate their products, we consistently find ourselves relying on OSMO, more convinced than ever by its superior quality and performance.
A distinctive product range that has particularly caught our attention is Polyx, OSMO's unique blend of oil and wax. Developed in Germany, Polyx is a game-changer in oil technology, demonstrating a radically different approach. We have observed many instances of floors treated with Polyx lasting an impressive 6-8 years before the need to recoat arises. This robust longevity positions Polyx alongside the most durable offerings in waterborne technologies, a testament to its superior formulation.

What sets Polyx even further apart from its competitors is its unique advantage of being spot repairable. This characteristic significantly reduces the ongoing cost of maintaining a timber floor. For those willing to invest a bit of time in maintenance, the cost can be reduced by over 90%, making Polyx an economically attractive option. When compared with standard oils, OSMO's Polyx outperforms them by lasting 4-8 times longer.

Recently, we undertook a project to refresh our oiled showroom floor, a space that has withstood three years of heavy use. Instead of the usual arduous process of sanding, we simply scrubbed the floor clean and applied a thin coat of finish. There was no need for any significant refurbishment, and the result was a revitalised, vibrant floor. This is a powerful testament to the exceptional performance of OSMO's products. The showroom floor's resilience and enduring aesthetic appeal, even under heavy wear and tear, is proof positive of the superior quality that OSMO offers. In conclusion, our real-world experience has only reinforced our belief in OSMO as the best oil on the market.

Last week, we hosted a successful tradeshow featuring UZIN Products and a highly knowledgeable visiting trainer from Germany. One of the key highlights of the event was the fibre-reinforced filler, designed with fibres to enable the product to fill larger gaps. The product is typically mixed with dust to achieve the best possible colour match, setting it apart from other products on the market.
While most fillers mixed with dust work effectively for small gaps, the Pallmann PALL-X Filler boasts a unique capability to cover gaps as wide as 4mm.

The Pallmann PALL-X Filler is a water-based, fibre-reinforced joint filler with an impressive filling capacity. It is fast-drying and offers flexible filling for joints up to approximately 4mm. It is an ideal solution for sanded wood flooring, parquetry, and even wood floors installed over warm water underfloor heating systems.

The product has a high colour fastness and is easily visible on the wood surface. It also offers the advantage of not clogging abrasives. It is suitable for all common wood species and has a low solvent content of less than 5%.

Key technical data for the Pallmann PALL-X Filler includes:

- Packaging: Plastic container
- Pack Size: 5L
- Shelf life: At least 12 months
- Consumption per coat: Approximately 60 - 120 ml/m (depending on joint size)
- Coverage: Approximately 8 - 16 m/litre (depending on joint size)
- Working climate: Between 18 - 25 C and 35 - 65% relative humidity
- Ready for sanding: After approximately 30 - 45 minutes (depending on the joint size)

The Pallmann PALL-X Filler has been assigned an EMICODE EC 1, indicating very low emissions.

Are you in the process of completing your kitchen and in search for a simple yet effective solution for your timber furnishings? OSMO Top oil is a highly recommended choice. It is an innovative blend of oil and wax, specifically designed for use on kitchen countertops and wooden table surfaces.
This oil offers a clear, natural matte finish that is safe for food preparation. It is ideal for interior use, offering a host of benefits for your wooden surfaces. One of the key features of the OSMO Top oil is that it makes the wood water-repellent and non-abrasive. Furthermore, it ensures that the surface does not crack, flake, peel, or blister, preserving the beauty and longevity of the wood.

The application process is straightforward and can be done either with a roller or a cloth. If you choose to use a roller, you will need to apply two coats of the oil for optimum results. If a cloth is your preferred method, you will need to apply 2-3 coats.

This versatile oil has excellent coverage, with one can covering approximately 12 square meters. This makes it a cost-effective solution for both small and large-scale projects.
