This month, in a thriving Perth business, some vigilant anti-ransomware software did its job and detected a threat. Despite the alert, the company didn't act promptly.

Two weeks later, the ransomware struck, crippling servers and encrypting vital files. Exploiting a GRE tunnel, it then infiltrated another site, creating havoc anew.

Fortunately, the second site had backups in a different network, and the company was able to recover. Without that, they were probably out of business.

Imagine the stress. It underscores the importance of taking cybersecurity alerts seriously and acting swiftly to prevent widespread damage.

If you have ANY doubts about your ability to block or recover from a ransomware attack, contact us while you think of it and we'll map out a plan.

Emojis count as financial advice and have legal consequences, judge rules 28/02/2023

The SEC in America just issued a warning - putting emojis in your emails (like money bags or rockets) communicates 'a financial return on investment'. So companies who use them will be subject to the normal legal consequences of promoting a financial product.

Here's the full article, to prove that I am not making it up:

Emojis count as financial advice and have legal consequences, judge rules Though the word “profit” was not included in NBA Top Shot’s tweets, the emojis used were described as an indication of financial returns.

Hackers disrupt 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual esports event 07/02/2023

There are many kinds of hacking. One kind is event disruption/vandalism. Most recent example here, where hackers (allegedly) disrupt a virtual racing event, destroying the chances of some drivers.

When one of the drivers is Max Verstappen, the PR consequences are disastrous.

What jobs are most at risk by AI? Here's an article on that written by an AI bot:

There is no definitive answer to this question, as the potential impact of AI on different jobs can vary depending on a number of factors. However, in general, jobs that involve repetitive tasks or processes are at higher risk of being automated by AI.

This includes jobs in manufacturing, data entry, and some customer service roles. Jobs that require creativity, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills are less likely to be automated by AI.
