Ok I had to walk away (declined) from this job, the PNE control box failed last year and they PAID šŸ˜ some fool to come out and fit a new control box with a remote control (Navigator)and not only is the control box fitted backwards (crazy no reason for it) the isolation s/w can only be operated with a thin screw driver as it hard up against the mounting bracket (illegal) , not to mention just ramming a couple of tech screws through it and closing the lid on to the cables that are not placed inside the box correctly. Also he used a 20mm hole saw and just drilled in to the housing, so now if water gets on to the ledge , the water goes straight in to the dropper and then on to the ceiling - more faults to mention but whats the point !!
The owner did say he still has the receipt šŸ‘ and will make contact, my suggestion was to report him to Consumer Protection and The Department Of Energy WA (Elect)

This is a first for me, this evap is out of level by 61mm and has a few other little problems, but it was only after we started to remove the pads so we could level the head unit, only to find the reason for the angle was because there was no structual support to one side and it was actually the lead flashing supporting it and the dropper pivoting as soon as we took up the weight - we had to walk away from this job as owner is going to see about replacing the evap

Owner reported water on the tiles and water stains on the ceiling, when she purchased the house approx 12 months ago, the previous owner told her, no service was required on evaporative air coolers and as they are new to WA, they have had no experience with evaps - it pretty obvious it was in a very poor state before they purchased the house.

This is a very common fault (problem) on the old Breezairā€™s, drum bearings get water in to them and they rust out and sometimes seize up

Everybody has a different way of seeing things, to this elderly man it was just a little dusty and the pads were still getting wet - no problem šŸ˜¬ and yes he was technically correct !

This client had recently bought this property and had arranged for a ā€œevap serviceā€ was advised to replace the evap because the pads were damaged and the motor needs to be replaced as the bearings are failing šŸ˜± and it would be cheaper and quicker šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
Note
The pads are relatively new (maybe 2-3yrs) and in good condition, the problem was whoever fitted the pads did not fit the ā€œrubber seal ā€œ at the top of the pad frame - next door neighbour said it has been leaking for over 12 - 18 months and had informed the owners at the time , as for the motor bearings, it has nothing to do with the bearings the noise is ā€œharmonic noiseā€ from the motor - generally happens in old motors, motor not drawing excessive amps and the noise generally gets a little louder when the motor heats up and is on a low fan speed. The only options the owner has is to get the motor rewound or fit a new motor, the motor would need be bench tested before either of those options are actioned as there is a fairly low chance that their control box is inducing the frequency in to the motor and the motor is actually ok.

The cost for this client was $12 rubber pad seal ( 4m roll ) + $150 labour = Cheaper than replacing the evap šŸ˜¬

Welcome to the silly season, to the casual observer, it may not be obvious !
This is a Bonaire variable speed, controlled via a remote controller using a PNE Control board (no longer available ), the customer was sold a 3 speed motor and was told it would still operate as it would be using the High speed winding šŸ¤£, even though the motor plug in lead fits both the variable and 3 speed motor, the plug connection for the variable speed motor has 2 less pins, there are no modifications that can be made within the control box, also the client was shocked at the crazy high $100 plus per motor support arm ( He requires 4 ), he buggered off down to Bunnings and bought some 3/8 threaded rod and made his own šŸ˜±, if you have worked with 3/8 threaded rod before , then you are aware they break very easy . I have advised him, I would not work on his evap with the support arms that are fitted or do any modifications within the motor connection box to make it operate, apart from being illegal, my insurance would say goodbye if anything went wrong (damage) and I would be liable

This is going to be a problem for this customer šŸ˜, we were called out because they had water constantly coming from the front left hand corner of the evap on to the roof, it was fitted 13 months ago (replaced old evap with new Bonaire) . The first clue to this little problem is that the evap is mounted 90Āŗ out of alignment , the reservoir should be positioned facing the low side of the roof ( look at the profile of the base of the evap ) - it appears this was done because the flexi hose supplied was to short and instead of fitting a longer hose or getting a plumber to reposition or extend the water inlet, they decided to just rotate the evap 90Āŗ to make it fit , the second part of this problem is that the unit is not level as per the pics.
Now the owners want the original company to come back and rectify ie correct orientation and make level, as Bonaire may not honour its warranty , our side was a easy fix , lowered the water level ( temporary solution ) and tested ok.
The owners have made contact with the company that had fitted to unit and have received a negative response , they have contacted Bonaire and were told if not fitted correctly , warranty may be void , now going to Consumer Affairs !
This is a prime example of taking a short cut and yes the evap is operational and if the water level was not a problem , maybe 2 - 3 years down the track they would have found out and would maybe have zero recourse

Crazy this was done not by a ā€œhome owner or tenantā€ but by a ā€œmaintenance companyā€ the most obvious danger is uncontrolled water going into the evap, with no safe guards and also if any damage was caused, no insurance cover šŸ˜”

Breezair 13mm hose has come adrift from the water distributor, by the look of the dust on the spigot and inside the hose, it has been like this for a little while - strangely no water damage šŸ˜¬šŸ˜¬šŸ‘

Unfortunately this is a fairly common fault we find , stress tear - but as long as the tear is vertical and does not transit to a horizontal tear, it can be filled with silicon and last many many years - this is also the advice given by the manufacturer.
We have a number of these on our annual schedule, first is to take a pic and inform the client (show them the pics) and then if the tear has not changed over the next 12 months we fill with silicon and monitor.

Sorry about video quality, but this is a example of getting a friend of a friend to get new pads for you
Note : This was sometime last year and they have been getting water marks on the ceiling
1/ Incorrect pads, these are not Coolbreeze pads (blind Freddy can see these are not correct) šŸ«£šŸ«£
2/ The cut away section is allowing free falling water to splash but more importantly, when the lid is on and the fan is drawing air through the pads, some of the free falling water is being drawn in to the dropper and then seeping through on to the ceiling
